Chapter 1 - Liam's Vow

Liam leaned against his sword which had been planted deeply within the soot covered earth, he scoffed at the thought of this hell being anything like his home which he knew. The place he grew up in and was raised was nothing but ash and barren wasteland, for his home which he loved was caught within the flames of this volatile war. As he recollected his thoughts, he heard the sound of feet displacing the ashen ground and raised his head to meet the enemy. He had no friends left, they had long been slain by the legion of that godforsaken cambion. As his mouth was rinsed with his spit as he fought the rising urge to throw up, he saw the group of goblins and stood up towering over them. He pulled his deeply implanted sword from the ground as the goblins rushed to him like the beast they were, he grimaced as the pain of his muscles rushed through his nerves.

However there was no time to acknowledge the pain as he saw the disgusting creatures a swords length away from him. Liam raised his sword and rested it on his shoulder before using the the weight and moment of the blade to push through the first goblin that reached him as he sliced downward, causing the goblins body to be dissected before he could even reach Liam. and as the splitting of the body caused soot to rise in the air Liam took advantage of his environment and stepped forward moving the blade diagonally from the left of the next goblin stomach through his right, and as the goblin realized what happen and felt the pain it was too late as Liam stomped his head into the ground killing his enemy instantly. Liam stood there staring at the last of the group panicking and chuckled, "beasts will always abide to their instincts" he remarked and as the goblin begin to turn his back and flee Liam thrusted his blade through the fleeing goblin as hard as he could lifting the goblin off his feet and to Liam's shoulders, before taking the disgusting bastard's neck with his free left hand and twisting it as hard as he could. Liam instantly felt the dead weight on his sword before resting his aching muscles and letting the dead beast slide off of his sword.

As he stood looking at the horizon he regretted leaving to fight the war. The nation had lost the war, and he had lost everything else. The ash at his feet was the ashes of his family, his loved ones, his friends, and his purpose. Liam gripped his blade in his right hand as hard as he could until his fist went numb, and vowed to at least finish what he started, and as he started walking toward the homeland of the legion his heart froze over and was replaced with a furnace of hate.
