Chapter 33 - Introduction of Magic

In their second class, their professor was enthusiastic as a teacher at his profession than their previous one. Unlike Professor Gunhilde, Professor Tyrian is much more friendly and younger. He looks around the same age as her father.

"Our first lesson will be about how a wand looks." He then pulled out a wand to show everyone. The crystal embedded in it is green in color. "The power doesn't comes from the wand itself but in your own magic." he explained, "Your magic connects with the crystal which then connects to the instrument. Which in this case is this wand."

He waved it and an ethereal illusion of a rabbit appeared and bounced around, everyone stared at it in amazement.

"Some of you had already registered and received your wands so I do not think I need to explain too much in detail. In Solin, it is illegal to use magic without a license. The only magic allowed are the use of licensed and commercial appliances. There are exceptions. There are mages who are born with the ability to use magic without the need to use a wand which in this case means they train early to control that ability before anything drastic happens. Anyone can use magic but it isn't the amount that matters, it is the amount of skill you have. The wand is the basic instrument in which any mage learns how to conjure their magic but as your gain more skill, you can transfer your crystal into other items like amulets. Most mages usually have their magic crystals in amulets."

Leon looks bored and Rufus elbowed him to get him to pay attention.

"Magic can be sensed by those who are sensitive to it. You probably all felt it right? You will learn how to train those senses and see more than just a person's magic but all magic, how to tell them apart and assess the kind they are using." he said. "Your first year will be mostly on your sensory development before actually using magic. Without it, it will be disastrous and reckless. The inability to see or sense magic is like trying to walk blind."

Amy had to suppress her groan and looked around her to see that all of Team Sun has already done this before judging by their shared reaction. The ability to use magic manifests when they turn at least six or seven years old although Amy herself has hers much younger. With resources and connections, they already learned this much. The one class she looks forward to the most is gonna be boring.

How disappointing.

Amy stared at the crystal in Viola's wand. The crystals are special as it imprints on the user's magic meaning only one person would be able to use it. It can be transferred into any instrument they use whether it is a wand, amulet or armor. As long as it is an appropriate catalyst, the crystals can be used. There are extreme cases where people surgically place their crystal inside their own bodies but with great risk.

It isn't just crystals. The use of magic is vast. People can use magic in other ways; inscriptions, rituals, alchemy or draw magic from a different source.

Everyone was at lunch where Rufus and Leon were meeting their admirers. Amy ate her food quietly with everyone else.

"Other than what happened this morning, this was surprisingly uneventful." Sabina groaned.

"You're telling me. We're learning stuff we already know back when we're six." Nathaniel agreed.

Personally, Amy doesn't mind. She could just learn what she needs to learn through the library. After staring at Leon and Rufus, she couldn't stop thinking about what her assigned task.

*

Amy was in shock with what she heard. Queen Helena invited her and Rufus at the Royal Palace alone, without their parents.

"I will be honest with you. I am worried about Leon. He is reckless and prone to make mistakes. You two are quite aware of his character but you two are also mature and rational enough for me to ask you of this." she says in a serious tone.

"May I ask what it is you are talking about?"

She looked up at them. "You two are attending the Magic Academy and I suspect that Leon is most likely to join as well. If that happens, you are the only people he will be close to. I am worried because the Royal Academy is currently equipped with the means of a security detail that will keep him safe so I do not have any faith in the Magic Academy. You will protect him and he doesn't need to know. Understood?"

Both Rufus and Amy looked at each other for a moment before nodding to the queen.

Her first year is gonna be busy. Her plans will need to be modified now that the queen has personally tasked her with his protection. She looked at Rufus. She has no concerns and it isn't because of the story. Leon is strong enough on his own but who knows what kind of dangers he will come across which is why Rufus will be protecting him closely while she will be protecting him from afar.

In her first year, she will need to find his assassin and she has an inkling suspicion.

In the past, Leon mentioned that he was able to easily deflect every assassination attempt except one; a student during their final year. It was because of him that there was an international crisis. She doesn't know his name but she has an idea of what he looked like. All she could get is that he has cream colored hair and that he is a slave bought from Damat but employed by Hekaton and that he is in the same year as them from Team Moon.

Even if Queen Helena doesn't ask her, she would've done it anyway. She will dive into her research into expanding her knowledge and skills, collecting information as well taking advantage of being in the past so she will need to plan this carefully.

The rest of the day went smoothly. Horticulture is also quite educational as she doesn't know much about plants. Introduction of Magical creatures was fun mostly because it isn't entirely taught in a classroom setting. Magical Artifacts is her favorite class because it teaches the class on the creation of magical artifacts; a subject she absolutely needs to learn. Ancient languages is a difficult class because in order to chant spells, she will need to learn all three languages.

Amy decided to spend the rest of the day at the library and went to pick out a couple of books which she is interested in. Books like transfiguration, ritualistic magic, elemental magic, Ancient Languages usage and teleportation.

Aron didn't know he had a power for the majority of the story but was skilled in swordsmanship and transferring his magic into elemental magic, more specifically fire.

He is a fast learner and even learn how to teleport by creating a teleportation circle. That is her biggest goal. But it won't be exactly the same. It had its downsides which he wasn't able to completely fix but she is gonna change that by creating her signature circle, making it so small that it wouldn't be noticeable, fast so it can be summoned at a moment's notice, flawless so it would be convenient to use anytime without a cool down period and have checkpoints so she can teleport anywhere anytime and invisible so that it wouldn't be traced or tracked. Aron's greatest achievement stems from that. She got the information and summary from him. All she needs to do is to apply that to her own research and know more detail.
