Chapter 4 - A New Identity

The naming ceremony has been postponed due to her twin's illness. Whatever she caught was supposedly a simple fever. But out of fear of contagion, she never saw her again.

Her parents visited her two days later, to quarantine themselves before seeing her again. This time, they look sullen and tired. They must have looked after her all night. Her mother says that her sister's illness is getting worse and they do not know if it is contagious but regardless it is extremely dangerous for a baby to be sick.

"You are always a quiet child but you cried for your sister. You are very kind." Her mother says leaving the child to appear concerned.

Apparently the child is even in worse health. She's going to die at this rate. The nursery door opened abruptly and in came a boy with baby blue hair and a girl with green hair like her and her father; Rowan.

She was asleep earlier and upon waking up and noticing them, she appears visibly disturbed on having her nap ruined.

"Is this the baby?" the boy said. "She doesn't look happy to see us."

"Where are the maids? Is it right to leave her unsupervised?" the girl says in a disapproving tone.

"According to Aunt Clarissa, she doesn't cry much and doesn't need that much attention compared to the sick one." the boy replied.

"Is she named yet? The bud on her hand still hasn't bloomed at all." the girl points out her birthmark.

"No, because the other one is sick so the ceremony has been delayed so they haven't gotten their names yet." the boy said.

"Oh, that's sad. When it comes to twins, they have to be together. But one is pushing the other down just to get a name." the girl said and tries to get her out of the crib.

While she didn't protest, she doesn't know what she'll do when this girl drops her.

"Hortense! What are you doing?!" he whispered.

"Getting the baby to her sister, Hyacinth. I heard twins have a great bond. I wonder if the younger one will finally stop crying. I'm sick of hearing her cry."

Hortense? Hyacinth?

Hortense and Hyacinth are two cousins who are heirs to the House of Anthos. Hortense is a warrior who became a famed hero. She was one of Aron's teachers in one of the later arcs to train him against the Great Natural Disaster; the Cambion who is the second villain after Rufus Valerian. She is extremely confident and powerful yet she died by his hand before the final battle. She was an absolute favorite to the audience. Hyacinth on the other hand, has a slight timid personality but has a surprising amount of courage. He also becomes head of the Anthos family after succeeding the current head. He has some level of magical talent but it's not extraordinary.

As the cousins ran out the room along with her, they got in the room to notice her mother sleeping by the bedside with her twin sister on it. It doesn't look like her fever is coming down. They placed her on the bed and she crawled over to her sister. She then laid next to her. She has an idea how her abilities work but thought it would be smarter to get the adults involved first. However, it seems that the doctor is at a stump. At this rate, she might die. She then use the purification power she is able to muster, without being caught, to cure her sister. Her twin sister opened her eyes and saw her older sister right next to her and cooed before going back to sleep.

The next morning, her mother woke up to see the twin girls sleeping side by side. The mother was frantic at first but touched her younger daughter's forehead to see that her fever is coming down now.

The next few days just passed in a blink of an eye and before she knew it, she is wearing a cute little dress and wearing a cap to cover her head.

"I am so happy that this day will come. I was so worried." her mother says as she carried her.

The day has finally come. The naming ceremony.

She was wearing a purple dress to compliment her green hair and violet eyes. Her sister giggled upon being dressed. She is wearing a matching, soft, pink dress.

Then the girls were taken to a greenhouse where they saw a large basket full of flowers and other types of plants. And there are tons of people who are here to watch this unfold. This is the first time that she has ever left the mansion so to see outside of it was refreshing.

From what she can gather, the parents and close family members each gather plants to choose as their name and lay them out so that the child can choose. They cannot choose plants that are already taken as a name of a living person. The first plant they touch will be their new name. Whichever plant was chosen, they also automatically became the child's godparent.

Her eyes then turn to the purple flowers after she was laid on the ground. But before she could crawl, her eager younger sister crawled off to the purple flowers first and grabbed them.

Fuck!

The crowd has cheered as her younger twin sister now became Violet. Her now new godmother picked her up from the ground and held her. She has a pleasantly plump appearance with a gentle and motherly expression. "From now on, your name is Violet. Do you like your name?" Her sister, now Violet giggled in response, and it was returned with cheers. Her sister stole her character's name. Now what is she supposed to do?

She sat down to look at what is in front of her with reluctance. Everyone is now staring at her. There are flowers, ferns, Ivy, tree bark and more that she cannot identify. She then thought about it. She is acting the role as Violet but the god told her she can make any changes she wants as long as Aron is the titular hero. She thought long and hard as she stare at the items.

Instead of being Violet; a pitiful character who serves a very small role even in Aron's life, she will be the protagonist of her own story. She then saw a flower that caught her eye. A flower that means hope, determination, achievement and to shine brightly. She crawled towards it and grasp the flower in her hand. She then looked up to see an extremely old man who is the only one that is even sitting. He looks even more delicate than her as he picked her up and placed her on his lap.

Her father then spoke up. "Grandfather, you don't have to-"

"I want to." the man said then stared at her. "From now on, your name is Amaryllis. Do you like your name?"

She looked at her great-grandfather and grasp his shirt. "Em" she responded.
