Arthur takes a deep breath, looks at me, and says, "The woods cooperation, my parents."
I burst out in laughter.
Arthur looks at me worried, even the hallucination of my love does. I hold my chest trying to calm down, my laughter just becomes crazier.
Take down the woods cooperation? now that was just a brilliant plan! I wonder why no one has ever tried that before? oh wait, they have. It has never ended well.
Arthur looks at me like I have completely lost it, the other guy, not so much. I might have said it all out loud, oops?
"They have some of the best lawyers in the country," I say chuckling.
"So you refuse?" Arthur asks.
I get up, dust my clothes, and wear my long jacket. I bend down to find my scarf, "I never said that, besides I know the best lawyer in the country."
"You?" Arthur asks with a hint of humor on his face.
I roll my eyes, "of course not, I just know where he lives." I say as I move towards the entrance, putting my shoes on.
Arthur peaks from the kitchen door, "You two coming?" I ask as I hold open the front door.
I keep walking not looking back till we reach the building.
we reach the front door and all of a sudden I am hesitant, I wonder if I really should do this, if this wasn't the best choice after all.
I knock on the door. A few seconds and I hear the door open.
my mentor peaks out, he is wearing a soft, worn-out robe over his pajamas, his hair a mess, looking like he just got off bed. He looks at me and then behind me as his eyes narrow.
"Nick!" I exclaim.
"no," he says with his usual dry voice and slams the door before I can tell anything else.
Arthur's friend says, "I ain't helping you break into another house today."
I knock on the door more as i yell," Come on tech! you can't just leave me here! I will add salt to your coffee! turn your suits pink! add glitter to the entire office!"
"would all that not get you fired?" Arthur asks.
"I have done worse," is all I say
"Add dye to your shampoo!" I continue.
seeing as nothing was working I decided to bring out my ultimate weapon, "I will tell Gwen that you were the one who scared away her date the other day."
and just as I had expected the door slammed open.
"you wouldn't," my mentor threatened.
"No, it's sweet honestly, you became such an overprotective dad," I tease.
my mentor rubs his face and sighs, "Come in."
I smile in triumph while my love crackles as she floats beside me.
Arthur and I sit down on the sofa as my mentor stands, looming over us, and the other guy stands beside Arthur.
"I believe introductions are in order," my mentor says and he isn't wrong, I still don't know the other guy's name and who he is to Arthur.
my mentor begins,"Nick Carter, criminal lawyer but I do take on other cases too."
Arthur smiles, the one his family does for every camera as he says, "Arthur Woods, I have a major in aerotechnology and a minor in business management."
It intrigued me how he hadn't brought up the Woods Corporation, a place he technically owns.
I decided to introduce myself as I don't remember ever exchanging names," Mac Burns, also a criminal lawyer"
we wait a few seconds just staring at the other guy, and his only response is to glare back at us till Arthur nudges him a bit.
"Merlin," he says.
more staring continues before he says one other fact, "Arthur's bodyguard".
He continues to do his job as a statue and stay as still as possible.
I ignore him and bring my focus back to my mentor who looks like he regrets every decision he has made.
"Kid, why have you brought Mr.Woods here?"
"He is a client," I say confidently.
I watch as my mentor sighs again, "I still don't understand why you are at my house on a sunday, instead of showing up in the office on a monday."
"Because you let us in?" I say and dodge the book that was aimed at my face.
I don't hear it hit the wall so I turn to see Merlin holding it. huh, no wonder he is a bodyguard.
Turning away was clearly a mistake as I get hit by a different book, as soon as I turn to talk to my mentor. My love cheers and I hear Arthur try to muffle his laugh. siblings indeed.
"Tell me why you are disturbing the one day I don't have to look at your face before I kick you all out," he threatens.
well, the jig is up, "It's about Nyx." The mood turns sombre again.
