Kiera approached the maître d' of D'Angelo ten minutes before the agreed time. She was hoping she can be there first, at least that won't piss off Thea.
At this point her masterplan was try to do everything not to trigger that one's infamous temper.
After she gave her name to the maître d' another server led her towards the private rooms at the back. The Italian restaurant had an understated elegance that was targeted towards the old money.
She was glad she had gone all out and had put on her silk knee length black dress with pearl buttons and little puff sleeves. It was a splurge that set her back several credits but it was on sale and she had fallen in love. She had told herself then that it was an investment. And it had been one of the very few good investments she had made in her past life. It had been an armor of sorts that she used during several occasions when she had to dress up.
And once again she donned her armor to face one of the toughest people she had ever known. Her hand had gotten unreasonable clammy as they passed through several doors.
The server stopped at a door and knocked, after a moment he opened the door and waved Kiera in.
As Kiera stepped inside, she was shocked to find someone was already in the room.
"Hello, Kiera." The woman had on a little smirk, she seemed quite satisfied with Kiera's shock at her presence.
"Hello, Eileen, I wasn't expecting you today."
Kiera took a seat across from her, she had always leaned on Eileen than Thea growing up. With Thea, they were like a spark away from being a powder keg about to blow off.
"I'm honestly quite hurt you did not contact me first. I had to hear from Thea, of all people, that you seemed to have found yourself in some trouble."
Kiera maintained a poker face but that jab hit home.
"I'm not really in trouble."
"But you've found yourself in enough of a situation that you needed a lawyer and actually reached out to Thea before you did me. I admit I was a bit hurt. I always thought you would reach out to me first." Eileen sighed and took a sip out of the dainty little cup in front of her, "I might have been mistaken but I believed I was your favorite sister."
This time Kiera did flinch and it took all her power not to break the eye contact with her older sister.
As if by some damn cosmic cue, the door opened and in came a more serious identical copy of Eileen. The did not even react seeing her two sisters already seated, she just calmly took off her blazer and draped it across her chair.
She sat down and started to critically study Kiera.
"Why, hello to you too, Thea. Lovely weather today, don't you think?" Eileen handed Thea a cup of tea.
Kiera knew she was in hot water when Eileen did not even make a move to offer her a cup of tea. Of her sisters, Thea was always the confrontational type, always straightforward and uncomplicated; but Eileen had always been the passive-aggressive one, she would play mediator between them siblings but there would always be a dangerous edge to her smiles when she got pissed enough. Thea would look her enemies in the eye as she ended them but Eileen would sooner stab her enemies behind their back.
When the twins did nothing but sip on their tea, Kiera knew the proverbial ball was in her court.
She steeled herself, took a mental deep breath and cheered herself on, 'You can do this. You knew they would be angry. At least it's the both of them at once, you won't have to grovel a second time.'
She looked at her sisters and in dug as deep into herself, "I'm sorry."
