Where the fuck am I even going?
Edgar thought as he made his way towards where he saw the blue dome sprout from. Better guess as any that the epicenter was over there since it wasn't like there was anything giving a direction as to where he needed to go.
So forward he went. And the view along the way was not a good one. Or even bad really.
It was horrible.
He thought his home road was bad but the farther he moved towards Ventura it just seemed to get worse and worse. People that were outside of their house just dead in their yard or the unfortunate sight of people starting to loot because of people knowing that there was no way the police would be able to handle everything happening all at once.
If it wasn't for the fact that Edgar had seen his house safeguarded by his system then there would be absolutely no way he would be outside right now.
Unfortunately, this is what he had to do if he wanted to protect his family. After seeing all those apocalypse and isekai manhwa and anime he knew that if he didn't do his best to get stronger he would only get killed later down the line. As stupid as it sounded reading all that stuff online actually helped prepare him for this.
Since Edgar had on all black clothes he was harder to spot in the middle of the night but since there were fires and people running around he wasn't sure how much longer he would be able to go without attracting people's attention.
After being lucky enough to run for ten minutes without getting into a fight Edgar was still surprised at how easy anything physical was now. He was still a little pudgy around the abdomen and was absolutely not a bodybuilder or anything like that but he could feel his body continue to assimilate the excess energy he took from his parents and making him not only LOOK stronger but actually enhance his body.
It wasn't until he got to the unsavory area of his city that Edgar started seeing more gangster type characters and people driving around in modified cars shooting out their windows into the air.
"Hey! Who the fuck is that trying to run through my block?!"
Edgar didn't even have to guess that they were talking about him. If he was running before, Edgar was straight up sprinting now. He put his head down, dropped a gear and disappeared.
Or tried to anyway. With his enhanced body he was running around 50 mph now but the nodded cars could obviously drive faster than that. As he ran as fast as he could he glanced behind him and noticed a modded Civic chasing him and it was getting closer.
"Why is this is guy so fucking fast!?" He heard a guy say as he leaned out of the car window.
Thinking quickly Edgar raised his right hand that had the Draupnir ring on it and made a Spear appear and plunged it into the cement road. As soon as he did he let go and because the driver of the car definitely wasn't expecting someone to have a Spear come out of nowhere poking in the road he couldn't brake fast enough and crashed straight into the Spear.
What Edgar was hoping for was that since the system pulled the Spear from his memory then it should have also made it out of the same material which should be stronger than anything this Earth had to offer.
Expecting it and being prepared for it are two different things though and what happened next no one saw coming.
The car slammed into Spear but because the weapon was made of otherworldly material and the car was going so fast the Spear tore the car apart down the middle. As the two pieces crashed without the other sides tires to balance them they began to tumble and rotate. As they did they threw their passengers out with such suddenness that one second Edgar was 20 feet ahead of where he planted the Spear and in the next second there was a guy unfortunately blasting his head open in the pavement 20 feet in front of HIM.
Meaning the guy got launched 40 feet in ONE second.
As Edgar heard his head explode and make a wet cracking sound he immediately turned away from it and started running even faster. He understood that he just killed someone. That the wet, bloody body draining into the road was because of him. He didn't regret it because of them trying to kill him but he definitely wasn't ready to face the results of his actions.
As Edgar ran for the next twenty minutes to Ventura he tried coming up with a plan. He had a magic system, three new weapons that although very powerful were only level one and he only had theoretical knowledge on how to use them, no light or heavy attacks for any weapon, and he had a strong body that was getting stronger the longer he ran and the more energy he adapted from his parents.
Things really didn't look too good honestly. Inexperienced, scared, anxious, and the only thing going for him was that the weapons were, quite literally, out of this world. They had properties to them that nobody could even understand. Neither would he until he got more experience with them. That was his only advantage.
After the twenty minutes of running passed the system lit up in front of Edgar.
[You are entering the boss fight area. Continuing forward will count as beginning the battle. Are you sure you want to continue?]
[Yes] [No]
He took a deep breath in before clenching his teeth and balling his fist.
"Yes"
And the earth shaking nearly stumbled him onto his ass. Catching his balance Edgar looked around hurriedly while pulling the Leviathan Axe from his storage. Just in case he needed to defend himself he needed a short range weapon to make sure nothing got in his guard.
As the earth continued to shake he noticed a field of dirt used for crops turning into a tall hill. When it seemed like the dirt hill reached 20 feet the dirt exploded out and it showed what appeared to be a giant earthworm. Due to the much bigger size of this one it showed a wide gaping mouth that had teeth all throughout the hole that would push food down into its stomach. It was an off white color that seemed light brown at the same time.
It roared out and seemed to know where Edgar was even if he hadn't moved yet. It began to move at a fast speed in a round trajectory towards where he was forty feet away.
"Big ass earthworm type thing that seems to be a boss type creature. Okay let's do this. Just like the game. Just like the game"
As soon as he thought that he ran in an arc around the worms path to him while picking a time for when he should strike. His breathing was erratic because he couldn't hold back his fear of what was happening but he had to deal with it.
As he ran he willed the Axe to build up ice in the blade before running in giving it a shot to side of its head before immediately jumping back. It gave off an explosion of ice as it impacted the skin and seemed to throw particles of ice everywhere.
The worm let out a pained roar before continuing to crawl around before digging underground. Edgar didn't want to be a sitting duck just standing there so Edgar quickly sent the Axe to his storage before popping out the Blades onto his arms.
He willed the Blades to build up fire before clenching his arms and slamming with both blades into the ground causing a build up of red showing through the dirt before a fiery explosion erupted from the impact point and caused the worm to stick its head out of the ground as it tried to shake of the flames that covered it.
As soon as Edgar saw the worms head again he ran at it and jumped before plunging the Blades into its head and building up fire in the Blades again he made an explosion go off in the worms neck that caused the head to be disconnected from the body and land with green blood coming out of it.
As he jumped back and tried to catch his breath Edgar thought about how easy this was. He wasn't touched at all by the worm and even though he was obviously scared he was able to keep calm and defeat the boss very easily. The axe and Blades worked exactly as he expected them to as well.
Since they were weapons from a game and since the game never had Kratos say any magic incantations or spells he always assumed that since the weapons recognized that they were his they operated based off what he wanted them to do in his mind.
The fire from the Blades explosions didn't even singe his clothes. The fire not burning anything Edgar recognized as his seemed to be automatic for the Blades as well so it should be the same for his other weapons as well.
The system screen popped up again with another message and it was one that shocked him.
[Congratulations! You beat a boss on easy difficulty! Will you accept the rewards or will you risk fighting the boss on hard difficulty? If you defeat the boss on hard difficulty you will earn rewards that are one level higher than the normal rewards!]
The boss was on easy? Was that why the boss went down so fast? And my level?
Edgar brought up his stats again and saw his level right underneath his name.
Level 3
Why am I Level 3? Is this from taking the magic energy from my parents?
Edgar put his hand on his chin and got into a thinking pose. He thought about how the boss was so easy to kill that even if it was on a harder difficulty he should still be able to kill it even if it was just a little bit harder. The rewards being a higher level sounded great too. Was this how he was going to get the upgrades for his weapons?
After deciding that he would fight the worm on hard he was still a little nervous but figured he was prepared since he brought it down so easily.
That was a mistake.
[During this boss fight there will be three hard difficulty worm bosses!]
