Chapter 22
Hiccup Pov:
"Who are you?!," I ask, immediately afraid.
"A friend, I believe Jake talked about me joining the military in my fathers position before I retired?," He says.
"Thorsson," I say, remembering the traditional viking way to say someones name if you don't know it.
"Yes, I am Thorfinn Karlsefni, call me by my last name as most don't know it. Now comeon, I was instructed to get you out of here," Thorfinn says. With that, we take our stuff, and follow him. But did the others escape, did they get everything out? We won't know until I send that Gmail out, and I get this program running, Jake.
He had built up something on this drive and told me to share it to everyone if we ever got sepparated. I just hope that it works.
Jake Pov:
Emma and Hannah run down the tunnel at my yell, I follow closely behind, the dogs running with us. My footlockers, along with Emma's I had sent down a passageway. It will get to our destination before us, and seal up like it was never there. Not only that, but they will be unable to determine where it was.
As we are running I realize they aren't going fast enough. "Ryder, take the other dogs and run on ahead as fast as you can," I say. If I am going to do this, I don't want to worry about running the dogs over. I catch up to Emma and Hannah as they watch the dogs bolt on ahead.
"We aren't going fast enough, sorry about this, I say as I throw them over my shoulders and pick up the pace as an explosion is heard. I run as fast as I can, knowing this tunnel is not only the closest to the house, but the longest.
That incineration bomb was designed to remove anything physical in the tunnels and collapse them. It won't affect surrounding houses, but will flood this entire tunnel system even if blocked by a cave in. It could even get to the cove and nearly melt the door down. "Brother, the fire is approaching," Emma says as we run and I can feel it heat up.
"Then, I am going faster, hang on," I say as I bolt. As I run I hear a bark meaning the dogs must've gotten out and that the exit is near, unable to tell since the walls are a blur. Finding the exit of the tunnel that has been going up I get to the top, after slowing down, and drop to a ledge below.
I put my sister and Hannah below me and shield them from the fire erupting overhead, burning my back. My backpack was with the footlockers, all I had was what was in my void pocket. We were on a mountain in the wilderness of Berk. Right now a helicopter will be coming to check it out. There are also other fires breaking out all over the island as well.
"Get these on, we need to go," I tell them, bringing out suits from my backpack.
"What are these?," Hannah asks.
"Flight suits, we will be skydiving to the forest before going to Escape point R. The dogs will follow on land," I say as I feed the dogs some meat I had stashed.
"Ok," Hannah says as they put on the suits and I look to see a Helicopter coming. I take off my Jacket that had the void pocket, since it is literally missing the back as I put on my suit.
"Ryder, Summer, Stormfly, follow our sents," I say, bearing through the pain. With that I toss the ruined Jacket out.
"We will be heading in that direction, I might land before you though. When you land, you should be near a inlet, head there and I will meet you. Hide on the wooden boat if anyone other thna me comes. Now, go!," I say, backing up with them. They take off and I follow on behind.
The dogs also run down the mountain to catch up and get to the location. At the same time the Helicopter follows. I don't know if I will make it with them, but I will keep them safe.
Narrator Pov:
"Stoick!," Phlegma calls out.
"What? We are in a meeting," Stoick calls back from the meeting room. He was meeting with other higher ups and more.
"700 Viking Avenue just exploded. Viking Avenue has also been cordened off by police since 5:00 AM. What remains of the house, is Ash," Phlegma says through the intercom.
"WHAT?!," Stoick yells back. "I'll be a minute," Stoick tells his council as he leaves. "Give me the run down," He asks Phlegma.
"Stoick, we don't know much all in all. All we got was a message from some kids lving next door. They were to crazy for any foster families so they lived there. They love to surf the net and found out about it," Phlegma starts.
"Peter was supposed to come at noon, but judging from this, we assume he is dead. Gunmen tried to enter through the front at 6:50 by shooting an RPG at it. Fire was returned from inside the house," Phlegma states.
"But they shouldn't have Guns!," Stoick exclaims.
"Sir, the Dire Family is mysterious, remember that. They pulled back from that as turrets popped up and started to fire. It kept them busy for around a half hour. Then, a bomb went off. We are currently heading to the scene. Though, there have been reports of streams of fire coming from around the island, at the tunnel exits, all of them so far, the short ones mostly," Phlegma tells Stoick.
"Where are the kids?," Stoick asks as he calms himself.
"That's the thing, we don't know. They might have escaped through the tunnels, but there were flames filling them. The door in the cove might hold up," Phlegma finishes.
"Send Karlsefni to help those at the cove. We can only hope they all make it there," Stoick replies as he goes back to his meeting.
