Chapter 26
Jake Pov:
New Berk, Home of the Dragon Riders! It is unknown on how they managed to hide the island but it is thought that it is similar to the Bermuda triangle. This one was the Dragon Triangle, you take a certain path in it and you will find yourself at a hidden island. Nothing from the modern world has reached here.
It is indeed 1 mile from berk, it is really hard and long to get here. But, it only takes five minutes to get in sight of berk when leaving. It is a truly mysterious island. "So, when did you find this out?," Hannah asks. It is obvious she would ask as it concerns her ancestors.
"I found it out around 2 weeks ago. You remember when I disappeared for a weekend and got everyone riles up. Well, I had come here to find this. The Dragon Triangle as I call it, is a maze to enter and a funnel to exit. Due to that, there is a delay in when stuff arrives, but it is almost instantaneous when leaving. Same for something physical like us, but once you leave the fog bank, you will have to take the maze to get back," I start.
"If you end up out there, you will most likely never get back here. It will be up to a week before someone would leave to look for you. The island is massive hence the week. So either memorize that path to heart, or just don't leave," I inform them. With that I take us towards the cliff island.
"Stay with the ship, keep it anchored to the cliff face," I tell them as I get ready to jump. I have to scale the cliff-face to get to something.
"Why? Did you forget your leg and arm are broken?," Emma asks me, reminding me of my injury.
"The last residents left a lift here. It is at the top of this cliff so I have to climb a couple thousand feet. I will be back with it in around an hour or two, maybe more. Plus, I can still climb like this, maybe," I inform them. With that I jump onto the cliff-face using my good leg and begin to climb with my good arm using platforms and ledges.
This island is unknowingly tall. It might seem easy to scale at a distance but it is the opposite. The rock goes in every direction with no sense of reason, like not even water carved it. Ok, water played a part, but it was not alone in this endeavor. Earth and Wind and Fire also played a significant role in the creation of this island.
The surfaces of the rock can be very rough in one area and to smooth for me to grip in another. This leads to me having to carve a hold into the rock, something not easy. Due to the smoothness of it, it makes it very hard to damage. It is like a sphere house in a hurricane or a tornado. It has nothing to catch on and just slips and slides off it.
The only way to carve into the rock, is to hit it head on at a perfect right angle, nearly impossible. It is even more impossible with me trying not to fall down the cliff.
The climb is long and tedious and i eventually reach the top. There I find an old building with a winch, the ship lift. It is capable of lifting up to 4 ships at a time since that is how many slots there are. Though it needs some repairs before starting.
With repairs done, I take one section and begin to lower it. Despite it meaning that I will have to climb for another couple of hours, I go down with it. Slowly descending I watch the ship just chill below as I descend. I notice a few figures on Deck, Emma, Hannah, and the pets seemed to have noticed me.
Once down I shimmy onto the ship before standing up. "So?," Emma comes up and asks me.
"I need to attach the rigging and then I will be climbing back up to bring the ship up. It will take a little longer than the descent as it is pulling weight and is old," I inform them.
"Ok," Hannah responds. With that I get to work attaching the rigging before climbing back up. This time I take the ropes attached to the rigging, used for pulling ships up. Note that those ships are much heavier than mine due to old technology.
Arriving back at the top I go over to a panel. This is used to lift the ship using the rigging I just installed. Pulling the level, it starts cranking and lifting the ship. So far so good, lets hope it stays that way.
The ship is around 20 feet from reaching the dock, when I hear a unsettling creak. The wood, despite being built by a famous inventor, it did not stand the test of time. I need to dock that ship quickly before it cracks and the entire thing falls down to the sea.
"Emma, Hannah, I need you to climb the lines and get up here. I need help to dock this ship fast," I yell down. I don't wait for an answer and start preparing the dock. Thankfully the wood looks to be in better condition as it was in the building. I pull it out as Emma and Hannah arrive.
"What is it?," They ask as they come over. Then, another creak is heard and they realize the meaning behind my yell.
"Take this and go to the bow of the ship. I will get the other side. When I say go, engage the Dock, we do not want this ship falling," I inform them. As the ship comes up, "NOW!," I yell. With that we engage the dock. Me forcing through it with my injuries. This will hurt.
