Chapter 9 - Talent test (2)

"Thank you, Elder Xing" Wan Xue bowed down and thanked him gratefully. The crow that was standing on his shoulder silently suddenly flew up as soon as Elder Xing finished explaining, setting off to a location that was unbeknown to every kid present.

"Okay, next..."

"C talent, hmm not bad."

...

"Xian Long, B talent, not bad. You have a promising future ahead of you kid, I hope you do not disappoint me, and especially the organization. We have a high hope for you, so don't die early little guy."

Xian Long bowed and expressed his gratitude with a wide grin on his face as he said carefully "I won't disappoint Elder Xing and the all-mighty organization, for putting trust in me"

"Hahaha, it's good as long as you don't become arrogant." Elder Xing replied cheerfully, then he continued with a serious tone "Else you won't last long in this world..."

Hearing this, Xian Long's face turned serious as he spoke "Thank you for your teaching Elder Xing, I will keep this in my mind as long as I'm alive."

Elder Xing didn't continue to reply, the crow seemed to realize that the conversation between these two had ended, flew up away from Xian Long's shoulder into the sky slowly to ensure that Xian Long could catch up to him and not get lost in this unknown environment.

After Xian Long left, Elder Xing called up another kid. This time, the stone didn't light up with any sort of symbol, seeing this, the little guy's face turned gray, he looked slowly toward Elder Xing with an almost non-existent expectation waiting for an explanation without removing his hand from the stone.

Elder Xing shook his head and said word by word "No talent for the cultivation."

The last string of hope that was still within the unfortunate guy's mind quickly dissipated, replaced by a sheer amount of hopelessness and outrage toward this world for treating people like him unfairly.

Despite that, Elder Xing still rolled his hand, and a dark bird flew toward him, resting on his shoulder, he then said coldly "Follow the little bird, and don't you dare ask me any questions."

"How about the contract?"

"You? Contract? You don't deserve it. Quickly go before I kill you, trash on the spot."

The little guy's eyes turned slightly red, tears were about to flow out along with the uncontrollable quiver that affected his entire body. He knew that there was nothing that could be done, except to endure it and accept it unwillingly, at least he could survive longer by choosing the latter choice.

So without any choices left, the little guy could only quietly follow the bird without asking any questions. He really wanted to know what his life would be like, how long could he survive? how would he die?

Yet, he, a talentless man could only keep these questions to himself, he was not even worthy to ask anybody questions. Everybody who witnessed this swallowed their saliva nervously, as expected of an evil organization that kidnapped kids and forced them to join their organization.

No one dared to say it out loud nor uphold the so-called justice here, who knew whether the big guy would suddenly lose his mind and send them over to heaven, earlier here.

...

Eventually, it was their group's turn to test their talent. Elder Xing called out He Chin's name.

Having his name called out made He Chin feel even more scared. During the talent testing time, everybody felt nervous, but not as much as those who had to go through this after witnessing the fate of those people who were evaluated as talentless.

He Chin stood still for a while before being called out again by Elder Xing coldly, he looked up and had his eye met with Elder Xing whose eyes were filled with killing intent.

Gulp...

He swallowed in fear as he hurried his way to the platform. On his way there, he tripped over his heel in embarrassment, but he stabilized himself quickly as he continued walking to the stone while ignoring the awkward atmosphere that he created.

As he arrived close to the range that allowed him to place his hand on the mystery stone, he stopped and prayed silently in his mind. After that, he closed his eyes and reached out to the stone.

A while later, no one spoke a word, an uneasy feeling aroused from within his mind. Even so, he refused to open his eyes no matter what not until Elder Xing uttered happily "Why don't you open your eyes, the result might be better than what you had expected young man."

Hearing the good tone in Elder Xing's voice, He Chin slowly opened his eyes to about half-opened and half-closed before he stopped, he looked at Elder Xing in doubt as he had never said anything in a tone that sounded as good as this.

When his gaze fell on Elder Xing, many questions appeared in his head subconsciously because Elder Xing was smiling happily at him. Just what made this old guy like this?

But soon he got his answer as Elder Xing said excitedly "A talent, you're a genius." then he paused, to let He Chin process this piece of good news. He Chin wasn't excited but began to wonder if there was any error in the talent test.

But seeing that Elder Xing didn't say anything else, combined with the serious look on his face, he started to believe that this wasn't a joke. Yet it was hard for him to accept it, no one not even him would have expected him to be this talented.

Who could have guessed that he, a guy who wasn't the smartest nor the most hardworking one would end up with this fate. Maybe praying worked? But what about those who were determined as talentless? Did they not pray?

Thinking about that gave him a headache, so he stopped thinking and instead mustered up his entire courage and asked "I got A talent?"
