The tension in the room is high enough to measure up to the 20th floor of an elevator. The way my heart is beating, it seems like I might slump and die if they don't tell me their final verdict.
"Officer Sarah Darlington," Officer Daniels begins, looking straight into my eyes.
I would have been able to decipher his mood if not for my own crazy state of mind.
"For lying against a senior colleague and your immediate boss, you're hereby suspended from the—"
"A suspension?! What do you mean by suspension!? I can't be suspended."
"Yes, you can be. You're still a junior officer and will obey the code of conduct that guards this agency. Even if you're a senior officer, you're still required to comply. Got that?"
My head lowers to the floor and with each remaining word he says, my eyes blur with tears. How can I get punished for something I am a victim of?
