Chereads / The demon king is innocent: SB / Chapter 11 - A Never Ending Debt

Chapter 11 - A Never Ending Debt

Pitch darkness, pitch damp floating darkness as far as the ears could hear, and as far as they eyes could see. Not that he could contemplate any sense of distance, depth, length, or time in this hollow abyss.

All he knew was he was falling.

Falling in a float that gradually grew into a rapid plunge, the force of the pressure constantly slapping his face with his own hair being the only confirmation of his plummet.

He soared further and further down, beginning to cross his arms in front of his face bracing himself for the inevitable

 *-Crash!*

It was over, he was going to be dragged into that hell once again, by the hands of that demon, there was nothing he could do.

'Except not letting it break me again!'

After uprooting his face from the ground with determination Somniya glared directly at his counterpart, Ruthless.

He remembered exactly where he was sitting upon that towering throne just like last time.

"Oh, the pitiful dog actually isn't shivering, what drive..." Ruthless yawned bringing his right hand to his mouth whilst his left rested on the armrest.

"What, are you going to try to kill me?" He continued his bored face evolving into a devilishly amused smirk.

Somniya remained where he was standing although not moving a muscle, focusing all his willpower, energy and courage to keep his body from shaking he had nothing else to deliver.

"O never mind, of course, what did I expect? Like you actually tried to commit suicide!

HAHAhahaHa so damned pitiful!" Ruthless cackled relentlessly. "Still not saying anything aye?"

'This bastard is talking to me as if I'm a measly bug already squashed under his shoe, and I'm just standing here quietly proving he's right.' Somniya thought as he bit his lip and dug his nails into his palms.

"How are you laughing, you almost died yourself, I do have some power over you I control whether we live or die!" Somniya shouted finally breaking his silence as he stamped his foot forward echoing his dominance on the ground.

"I almost died? Ha!" Ruthless laughed again as he stood from his seat, showing Somniya his height for the first time and jumped down from the throne effortlessly, not even having to absorb some of the impact with a crouch.

Not even gravity itself had dominance over him.

Although they were indefinitely identical in height, Somniya couldn't shake the indomitable feeling of Ruthless dominantly looming miles above him.

"You think you went through torture?" Ruthless questioned as he pierced into the depths of Somniya soul with only a mere gaze.

Taking a step closer, so close their eyes were practically touching and Somniya could feel Ruthless's burning breath melting his cheek. "It's nothing compared to the torture of sitting through such a pitiful pile of shit controlling my body."

"NOTHING!"

Ruthless slowly moved his mouth closer to Somniya's ear ensuring that he could hear every last breath, every smack of his lips, every syllable. "Would've been better if you ended it right there.

Finally freeing me from this torturous hell that began the moment you existed."

Losing every ounce of willpower, determination energy and courage he had Somniya's knees became heavy as his body trembled as if he had just escaped an icy lake.

He wanted nothing more than to collapse to the ground, but even that his body refused.

"It wasn't my intention at first but how about we give it another go?

Let me show you, JUST HOW LITTLE I CARE ABOUT WHAT YOU DO!" Ruthless bellowed as he drew back his arm and shot it forward at such a speed it was more than impossible for Somniya to calculate.

"-!"

The morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow on the room and greeting Somniya as he awoke to another familiarly unfamiliar ceiling since it was practically routine by now. Although he couldn't be happier to see it.

He couldn't be happier to see this world.

Somniya sat up straight with a lion-like relaxed yawn, the warmth of the bed he had awoke to became a catalyst for a leisurely awakening.

The beautiful white bed sheets covering the bed, and the vibrant red and blue striped duvets emanated nothing but bliss.

'I'm scared!'

The rest of the bedroom emanated a rustic charm, with exposed wooden beams that cradled the history of many travellers' interesting tales.

'I'm scared!'

The walls, adorned with aged tapestries depicting scenes of local lore, added a touch of character to the room.

'I'm scared!'

Somniya's bed snuggled up in the corner of the room beside the window with opened orange linen curtains revealing the greenery outside at least one story up.

Its posts intricately carved with patterns that hinted at the hands of skilled craftsmen from a bygone era.

'I'm scared!'

The disfigured, discoloured wooden floorboards obvious to be squeaky held a remembrance that Somniya was safe, and he could remain calm and content he wasn't falling down anywhere.

'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!' 'I'm scared!'

 'My heart burns. Help me.'

Eve walked out from a room to the left of Somniya's bed, simultaneously drying her soggy hair with a blue towel, to see Somniya's horrified pale face, his pupils dilated and fixed on the ceiling, not paying any attention to the rest of the world almost as if he was in a whole different one.

"Oh, you awake? What's up with you, you're making a gross face as if you're receiving the greatest massage of your life."

Somniya rotates his head towards Eve the same sparkling smile once printed upon it finally glowing genuine. "Oh Eve, has anyone told you how beautiful and smart you are?"

"Please don't tell me it was that other type of self-massage?!" Eve said disgustedly forming the image in her head.

"Nope. Just being completely genuine." He persisted the big smile on his face not wavering with time.

Eve's cheeks suddenly blow up in a soft pink "Okay there's definitely something up who are you and what have you done with Somniya!"

Quickly attempting to hide her flustered face nor accept Somniya's praise Eve leans forward and blurts out, "The Somniya I know is still practically a child."

"Huhhh what'd you say?" Somniya demands scornfully with a crooked frown directed at Eve.

"That you're a child, I know you may have technically been born three days ago but still no need to act like one- hmph."Eve reiterates folding her arms and turning her chin upwards to the right.

"Hey, what child would take on three bloodthirsty beasts of men that tried mugging him all at once-" Somniya explained proudly folding his arms and closing his eyes with a prideful smirk on his face.

"You mean those bandits I one-shotted whilst they ran with their tails between their legs?"

"Gack!" Somniya's left eye shot open, his face breaking as if he had been pinched in the nipple. The little pride he had being torn away he still tried his best to maintain his crooked smirk.

"You're welcome." Eve continued mockingly sniggering in between. "But I hope I don't have to hold your hand every time now."

Eve continued teasing Somniya as they usually would do to each other, taking a step forward and stretching her index finger towards him with a cackle, "How dumb must you be to end up getting lost on a straight path."

Although she was only echoed by the silence.

Confused about why she had failed to receive a response, especially from him, Eve raised her head and called "Somniya?"

Somniya turns to her unable to control the plethora of emotions wrapping around his insides they flood out through his dead eyes, finally seeping through the smile he had used to cloak them.

"Hey, hey Somniya I was just joking..."

"You're right... you're so damned right about everything. I'm so weak, so pitiful. I know if I was to take on that last guy head-on. I would've been shredded to pieces I was so damned lucky!

I want to live, I decided that. But why is it so damned hard!?"

Instantly regretting her immature teasing Eve took the chance to console him, "That's why you got me-"

"No!" Somniya interrupted powerfully, for the first time rejecting Eve's kind words.

Baffled Eve could only reply with a confused "Huh?"

Somniya walked towards Eve his face fixed to the ground until he stood right before her, shooting his chin up creating direct eye contact between himself and Eve ensuring that she couldn't lie deaf to a single one of his words or thoughts.

"It's not fair I rely on you forever, it's not fair that you carry all my problems on your own, which of course is a lot more than normal people's problems. I should be finding some way to pay you back not just keep piling on my never-ending debt."

"Somniya, seriously it's fine, just put on this cloak like just go get breakfast-"

"It's not, it really isn't!" Suddenly Somniya's stomach grumbles loudly echoing throughout the room." But of course, I could keep thinking about it after some food."

Eve giggles, beckoning Somniya to take the grey cloak with her right hand whilst her left covers her uncontrollably giggling mouth.

You probably should take a bath though before going down a lot of people are eating down there you know.

"What's that supposed to mean!"

"It means you stink like shit!

 Literally."

"I can't smell that bad- GAH!-" Somniya says taking a whiff of his own body and scrunching up his face desperately avoiding gagging.
