When Leanor stepped out of the house, the guard greeted her with a warm smile and said, "Good morning, Ms. Carter."
Leanor was taken aback for a moment and asked, "Did you just call me Ms. Carter?"
The guard's smile grew brighter as he replied, "Yes, that's correct. Do you have any plans for the day?"
Ignoring the title, Leanor responded numbly, "Yes, I need to run some errands."
The guard smiled kindly and said, "Alright, take care on the road."
Leanor felt slightly more at ease with the guard's friendly demeanor. She headed towards her new house to check on the progress.
Although most of the floor tiles had been laid, the house had an unpleasant smell. She decided to visit the village market to find a better exterior design for her new home.
After finding something she liked, she made the purchase and left. As she descended the stairs, her flower vase accidentally fell onto a car parked below, leaving a small scratch on its white body. Startled, Leanor immediately stopped to inspect the damage.
The owner of the car, a young woman wearing a heavy makeup, was nearby and quickly approached her, pointing a finger and accusing her, "Hey, little brat, did you just scratch my car?" Leanor was frightened and quickly apologized, saying, "I'm sorry." However, the young woman showed no intention of resolving the issue calmly.
she spoke so aggressively and insultingly,
"You're sorry? Do you think your sorry can fix my car huh?
Leanor quickly responded, "I will pay for the damages..."
The young womam, not willing to let her off easily, deliberately quoted an exorbitant price to embarrass her, saying, "You will pay, huh? Fine! It will cost you $200,000..."
The price clearly indicated that she was not interested in resolving the problem but rather humiliating her. As the young woman continued to berate her, Leanor's face turned into a frown.
Sighing and turning around, Leanor caught sight of a public phone service. She took a deep breath and made her way towards it.
"Hey, come back here. Where do you think you're going?" The woman shouted.
Ignoring her, Leanor dialed a series of numbers, grateful that she still remembered Rufus's number. She had chosen to call Rufus because she didn't want to bother her mother and her new boyfriend.
In the open field, Rufus was approached by a girl. The younger girl blushed and pointed towards Rufus's phone that was on the floor, reminding him, "Senior, your phone is ringing."
Rufus growled as he tore his gaze away from the waterfall.
He was slightly startled and answered the call.
The girl's voice on the other end sounded hesitant, but she was clearly trying to suppress her emotions and remain rational and calm.
"Rufus, I need your help." Leanor bit her lip and then swallowed.
"I accidentally damaged someone else's car, and the woman seems to be pretty upset..."
"What do you want me to do?" Rufus asked nonchalantly.
Leanor closed her eyes and let out a breath.
"Can you please come?"
Rufus chuckled before ending the call.
He didn't say whether he would come or not.
But his next move was to grab his car keys and walk away.
The younger girl called out to him from behind, "Senior Rufus! You did it! You completed the first stage of the spell... The water is boiling now..."
Before she could finish speaking, Rufus had already disappeared without even looking back.
Meanwhile, the young woman clearly had no intention of letting Leanor go, and she continued to use extremely insulting language.
Rufus walked through the marketplace and sure enough, he spotted Leanor arguing with the woman.
Leanor furrowed her brow and bit her lower lip after being scolded. She wanted to retaliate but didn't want to stoop to the woman's level.
Rufus approached calmly and asked, "What's going on?"
The moment the young woman saw Rufus, her expression changed slightly, and she immediately put on a fake smile.
"Mr. Carter, what are you doing here? You know who she is?.."
Rufus lifted his gaze and observed the young woman with indifference.
Leanor, for some unknown reason, recalled that the guard had referred to her as Mrs. Carter. Worried that Rufus might say something inappropriate, she promptly interjected, "I'm his sister."
The young woman straightened her slightly hunched back. Leanor glanced at her and sensed a pause in her breathing.
In disbelief, the woman asked, "So, you are Miss Carter?"
Just as Leanor was about to respond, Rufus intervened. He nonchalantly placed his hands in his pockets and stared at the young woman expressionlessly. "You can send the car for maintenance, and I will cover the repair costs."
The woman hastily interrupted Rufus, seemingly anticipating what he was about to say next. She bowed to Leanor in fear and apologized, "I apologize for my misunderstanding."
The young woman's smile appeared awkward and subservient.
Leanor felt a sense of numbness. Wasn't this the same woman who had been scolding her and speaking nonsense just moments ago?
"No need to apologize. I will pay for the maintenance fee and compensate you. Just provide me with your account details."
"No, no, that won't be necessary. I will take care of the expenses, afterall It was fault, and it has nothing to do with Ms. Carter."
The young woman had already started wiping her sweat and smiled obsequiously.
Rufus calmly remarked, "Are you sure?"
The young womam quickly replied, "Yes, yes, I'm absolutely sure. You don't have to bother yourself.."
