Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Special Blood

Vincent's P.O.V

'Detain my beta!' The command was sent out to all my soldiers via the mental link that bonded the entire Lycan race to me, when I saw him absent from the dungeon entrance where I had left him before I had gone in to rescue my mate.

Did he really think he could outrun his fate? Why hadn't he thought about the consequences of his actions before committing them?

'Sire!' My soldiers replied at once, no questions asked.

It was a testament of their loyalty towards me…a loyalty that I had wished Ryan would've shown, since it had been more than three decades that he had worked as my beta. But alas, he had ended up making a mistake that was now going to be the cause of him losing his life.

But Ryan's fate wasn't my primary concern as I raced down the hallways towards my bedchambers. It was the fragile life of my mate in my arms, whose breathing was uneven and slow…slower than I preferred.

Upon reaching my chambers, I laid her upon the softness of my bed, her pale complexion stark against the fabric. Every fiber of my being surged with an overwhelming sense of urgency, compelling me to act swiftly to alleviate her suffering.

With a swift command, I summoned the healer, the urgency in my voice leaving no room for delay. As I awaited the healer's arrival, I hovered by her side, my heart a cacophony of emotions—fear, anger, and an insurmountable sense of protectiveness over the one destined to stand by my side.

The moments stretched endlessly as I watched over her, a turbulent tempest of emotions raging within me. The specter of uncertainty loomed over her fate, a silent plea etched in the depths of my soul for her to endure the turmoil that had befallen her.

As I awaited the healer's arrival, I stood poised on the precipice of a pivotal juncture—where the salvation of my mate hung in the balance, and the consequences of my actions loomed ominously on the horizon. The echoes of the recent confrontation reverberated in my mind, a haunting reminder of the relentless struggle that had unfolded within the dungeons, leaving us teetering on the edge of an uncertain fate.

A sense of anxiety gnawed at me, amplified by the tangible pain that pulsed through my very essence—a connection inexplicably forged between us. It was a profound realization that startled me—this connection, this inexplicable bond with her, transcended the boundaries of our unclaimed bond as mates.

The intensity of her suffering reverberated within me, a silent echo that resonated through the depths of my consciousness. The mere fact that I could feel her pain, despite us not yet being formally mated, stirred a sense of awe within me. She must be a woman of extraordinary strength and resilience to evoke such a powerful connection within me.

The healer's arrival brought a whiff of hope amidst the encroaching glooms of uncertainty. Yet, his words, laced with an unsettling truth, cast a pall of concern over the gravity of her injuries. His assessment of her condition, delivered with a grave solemnity, pierced through the veil of my apprehension. His words struck a disquieting chord within me—a foreboding revelation that threatened to tip the precarious balance of hope and despair.

"She has lost a substantial amount of blood," the healer announced, his voice heavy with concern. My heart clenched at the realization, a profound sense of urgency sweeping over me. Her weakened state demanded immediate action, a desperate plea for swift intervention to stave off the encroaching threat to her life.

"Then why not give her blood? We have humans in the vicinity!"

In my fervent determination to aid her, I implored the healer to procure the necessary blood for a transfusion. Yet, his hesitant response plunged me into a momentary state of incredulity. "I cannot simply obtain the blood," he explained, his words laden with a stark reality that pierced through my hopes. "And human blood isn't what she needs right now."

My brows furrowed in concern and frustration as the healer continued, "Hunters possess unique blood, a special kind of blood often carrying traces of vampire or lycan ancestry. Obtaining suitable blood for her transfusion poses a formidable challenge."

A sense of urgency surged within me, the weight of her fragile state bearing down upon me with a sense of unfathomable responsibility. The realization that her lineage held unique complexities posed a daunting obstacle in our pursuit to save her.

Faced with this unprecedented challenge, a myriad of emotions swirled within me—anxiety, frustration, and an unwavering resolve to overcome the obstacles that threatened her well-being. The limitations imposed by her unique lineage underscored the dire urgency of the situation, leaving me grappling with a sense of helplessness amidst the turmoil that engulfed us.

Every passing second felt like an eternity as I grappled with the harsh reality that time was slipping away, the shadows of uncertainty looming ominously over her fragile existence. The fleeting moments held the weight of an imminent decision, a crucial juncture that would determine the course of her survival amidst the encroaching threat that loomed over her.

As the healer deliberated on our next course of action, I stood at her bedside, a silent sentinel consumed by a relentless determination to spare her from the looming specter of danger. The echoing reverberation of her pain resonated within me, a constant reminder of the urgent need to find a solution—an impassioned plea to defy the constraints of her unique lineage and salvage the fragile thread that bound her to the precipice of life and death.

I stood at a crossroads, grappling with the gravity of the situation that had unfolded before me. The healer's words reverberated in my mind like an ominous echo—a daunting reality that demanded swift action to save her life. Her blood, a unique lineage intertwined with the complexities of vampire or lycan ancestry, held the key to her survival, a precious reserve stored within the Hunter's guild.

Summoning every ounce of resolve within me, I sought to acquire that reserve of blood to stave off the imminent threat that loomed over her. The healer's instructions echoed with an urgent plea—only her blood could be used for the transfusion, lest the risk of poisoning threatened to tip the delicate balance between life and death.

With a sense of urgency weighing heavily upon me, I reached out to Lucien Turner, the esteemed leader of Hunter's guild, beseeching him for aid in securing the reserve of her blood. The urgency of the situation eclipsed the turmoil that had transpired between her and me—a clash that seemed inconsequential in the face of the peril that now gripped her fragile existence.

As Lucien answered my call, a surge of determination coursed through me, a resolute fervor propelling me forward in the pursuit of her salvation. However, the gravity of the situation compelled Lucien to question the very foundation of my resolve—the inexplicable choice to save the life of someone who had just moments ago attempted to take my own.

"Alpha Vincent, why do you seek to save her when she sought to harm you?" Lucien's inquiry hung in the air, laden with a stark truth that pierced through the intricacies of our current predicament. His question struck a chord within me, beckoning for an explanation that resonated with the complexities of our intertwined destinies.

My thoughts swirled with a tumultuous clash of emotions—a tumultuous tapestry of compassion, duty, and an unyielding commitment to safeguard life, regardless of the circumstances. The enigmatic connection I felt towards her, the inexplicable tether that bound our fates, held an inexplicable power over me—an undeniable force that defied logic and reason.
