This next story, after the voting is from my trip to Alpine, NJ, to a place known as the Devil's Tower. According to several legends, the story goes, a rich man had the tower built for his wife to be able to see New York, without actually being there. One day, his wife was in the tower and saw her husband kissing another woman. After witnessing this betrayal the wife jumped from the tower, killing herself. It is said, if you drive your car three times around the tower (some say 6 times) in reverse, a woman in white will appear. This story, I'm about to tell, will not be involving that particular challenge. As I already have tried that myth in the past, with nothing happening (have heard others mention things happening, but not me). This story will be about my 3rd trip to the tower, in October of 2006. For this trip I went alone, to see if there would be a difference, in events. As I made the trip (in a 1988 chevy celebrity with a bad radiator), I felt confident something creepy was going to happen. When I arrived to the tower, right away, I could see other people parked and walking around (it was around 3 pm). I wanted to get there early and leave around midnight. As I walked around the place and spoke to other terror enthusiasts, I looked over my shoulder to point to the towers window (I was explaining the legend of the tower to a tourist) when I looked up, I clearly saw a woman in a white robe and brushing her hair in the window. It made me freeze for a minute, until the man I was talking to asked if I was ok. When I asked him if he saw the woman in the window, he chuckled, thinking I was messing with him and said no. That was my first omen of the night. I felt ready to explore more that night, since this was my first encounter of apparition at this location. Once night fall came and the flock of the tourist and passerby's died down, I decided to wait in my car for a few hours and just observe. Every now and then I would hear the screeches of owls or the rustling of leaves in the near by woods. Around 9:30, I decided to start walking around the tower, thinking to myself, maybe if I walked backwards 6 times, around the tower something would happen. As I began to walk backwards around the tower, with every full circle, I felt my legs get heavier and heavier, to the point I was feeling weak. Mind you, I was in good shape, back than and filled with endurance. On the sixth and final come around, I felt as though I hit a brick wall, that stopped me in my tracks. When I turned around to see there was nothing there, no wall, person, animal or other object that I bumped into. However in the distance, I noticed a shadowy figure lurking just beyond the tree line, a figure no smaller, than 7 feet in height. Around the Devil's tower, there are multimillion dollar homes, built in an area called Rio Vista and the tower sticks out like a sore thumb in the area. Which makes it all that much more creepy. The figure I saw could not have been a resident, nor an animal. I felt the presence was more sinister in nature and felt like it wanted to hurt me. As I instinctively, back away from the figure, back toward my car. I heard some whispers coming from behind me (near where my car was parked). I (while maintaining a visual of the figure) asked whomever was whispering, if they could see the figure I was looking at. No one responded, so I asked again, "hey can you see that thing over there?" This time with a little more panic in my voice. Again no response, yet the closer I got to my car, the louder the whispers got. Until my curiosity got the better of me and I peaked behind myself. To see an empty space, with nothing but my car in front of me. I turned back to see if the figure was still there and it had vanished. I jumped out of my skin at the thought of losing site of the beast so I got in my car and took off, scared out of my mind.
