Chapter 2 - CH. 2: House Invader

Although his parents did make him visit many doctors, the problems weren't solved. All the doctors either said it was some new type of a mutation or just migraine.

Well, Renjiro started taking notes about his nightmares and how they occur and how much longer the headache will last after each nightmare.

When he was a child, he used to have a nightmares between each 15 days and in the next twelve hours, he will be in pulsing headache.

The doctors did give him medicine, basically to block the pain pathways in the brain, until the headache subsides.

However, as the years passed, his headache timings started changing. When he was 10 years old, he used to get only one nightmare in 30 days, which later became even less prevalent.

In present time he only gets one nightmare in two months. The last nightmare was probably 17 days ago, that's the reason he was worried about his condition as he was afraid it will become active again.

5 years ago, his father died in a car accident which caused his mother to take over the company.

They live in Musutafu city located in Shizuoka Prefecture. After his father's death, he came to Tokyo for his college and was living here from the past 4 years, Since his college was completed, he needed to leave and go back to Musutafu in few days.

After driving for an hour, he reached his home.

The piercing screech of the SUV's tires broke the late night silence as Renjiro drifted into a sharp turn along the winding mountain road toward a mansion that slowly becoming visible.

Ren's jaws clenched with building pressure, his breathing started becoming a bit ragged as he fought the hammering pulse between his eyes. Each movement brought flashes of memory from the visions of his sleep.

As he entered his family's private land, his eyes met the reinforced gates of the estate, which had an emblem hanging on the doors that read "Takahashi."

There were no people protecting the gates, as security was digitalized. Since his mother travels around Japan often, there were guest houses like this one in different parts of the country.

There would always be 4 people watching over the property - one caretaker and three human security guards.

After going through a retinal scan built just beside the gates, he drove his car inside. He quickly got out while still clutching his head slightly and made his way toward the entrance.

Just before he entered, he quickly looked into a CCTV camera, since he knew someone would always be monitoring them.

However, he didn't wait for any reply before rushing into the mansion after opening the doors with a biometric scan. It wasn't new for him to come late, so nothing seemed alarmed.

He quickly breathed a sigh of relief.

"The sight of home will always give me comfort." He thought.

He quickly made his way inside. As he walked toward the kitchen, he took a box filled with different capsules and medicines from one of the rosewood cabinets where he always stored his supplies.

Pouring himself a glass of water he swallowed three capsules as they went down his throat.

He leaned against the kitchen wall for a few minutes, waiting to feel their numbing release as his eyes dropped shut.

But instead of relief, he quickly realized how silent his surroundings were. His senses heightened as he slowly started walking into the hall.

"Mato!" He called for the caretaker, the man he saw daily in the mansion, but he got no reply other than eerie silence.

He grew more vigilant as he rushed back into the kitchen and took a sharp knife, hiding it behind him. There might be nothing wrong and everyone could be sleeping, but being prepared didn't hurt.

If there was one thing he learned from his past, it was not to take uncomfortable feelings lightly. That was what he felt right now.

As he made his way into the hall, stopping behind the large aquarium built into the wall like a mini swimming pool, he called out again, "Security?"

Still no response. He looked around, contemplating if he should just run outside or actually continue searching for what was wrong.

He decided to run for the entrance of the house.

This mansion's security was formidable, with many cameras, sensors to alert home security, and three trained guards. If an intruder got through all that, Renjiro knew he couldn't handle them. If his guess was right, he was being observed since entered, so he had to flee quickly.

If it was just his imagination, he could live with the embarrassment over panicking about nothing. It wasn't like he was a pro hero or something.

As he started moving, he suddenly felt a whistling sound in the air as his eyes flew open wide. He stopped in his steps, and a silver flash went past his nose by mere centimeters.

"Damn, just missed." He said aloud as he couldn't even see what went past him.

He whirled around, hands in the air. "Alright, I surrender! Do what you want, just don't kill me!" His voice echoed pleadingly, but his eyes stayed sharp, darting around.

'I cannot see any movement, perhaps a invisibility quirk? Plausible, but why not kill me outright? They must want me alive, but they might also kill me if I resist. Villain? Assassin?' He quickly analyzed the situation with the limited information he had.

"A clever yet cowardly boy." A groggy voice resounded in the hall.

Renjiro looked around noticing that he can't locate the voice. 'Although it was groggy I can slightly tell it was female voice, trying to talk to me rather attacking me, did she have a plan or is she foolishly thinking I really surrendered.' He didn't reply for the voice as his thoughts raced, his eyes slowly darted around on the ground.

"Well, how about this, put your hands behind your head and get down on the floor."

Renjiro's eyes narrowed, now he know for certain that she want him alive, which gave him a slight advantage. He lowered himself down slowly, putting his hands behind his head.

"That's a good boy," the groggy female voice sounded again.

As renjiro put his head against the floor, a misty figure slowly manifested behind him taking a curvy form of mist.

Just as she approached to restrain him from behind, Renjiro suddenly swept his leg out, dispersing part of the mist. He quickly rolled away and sprung to his feet, as he took out a knife from his back.

The misty figure reformed, an annoyed look appeared on her face. "Clever trick, but it won't help you." Stretching her hands forword, she shot tendrils of mist towards Renjiro.

He ducked and wove, avoiding most of the mist.

'Well, it wasn't a complete waste that I took martial arts classes before I came to tokyo.'

Although he knew a move or two, his body was not that flexible, one of the tendrils grazed his shoulder, stinging like acid. Renjiro gritted his teeth against the pain. He couldn't keep dodging forever.

As the Misty figure pressed her attack, He dropped down and swept his blade in an upward arc, timing it just as she got close. The blade dispersed the mist at her core.

"Ughhhhhhh"

A high pitch scream resounded in the mansion as the Misty figure stepped back holding her chest and head.

'She's not invulnerable! Slashing her causes pain, even if it doesn't kill her. Damn, it would be a cheat if she was really invincible in that mist form.' He quickly analyzed in his mind.

Renjiro used the opportunity to launch a spinning kick, hitting where her torso would be. She grunted as the kick connected, her form wavering even more.

"You'll pay for that, brat!" She swirled around Renjiro, reforming into a mini tornado of mist. He could feel it tearing at his skin, shredding his clothes.

He randomly sliced and diced the vortex, unable to counterattack. 'Her first strike was powerful enough to cut me deep, but now all she can do is shred my clothes, leaving small cuts. Seems like she can't stay misty long.'

Slowly, blood trickled down his left shoulder, wetting the ground. No matter what, he couldn't be faster than mist.

'Ugh, I think it's time.' He thought, suddenly stopping his attacks. With full strength he hurled the knife toward the large aquarium several feet away.

The Misty figure saw this but could only keep attacking him - her weakened strikes weren't doing enough damage. She needed time to unleash her ultimate move to end this fight. No matter what, she couldn't let her target escape or she'd be killed.

The knife hit the aquarium with force, shattering it. Gallons of water poured out, creating a tidal wave that pushed Renjiro and the Misty figure back.

As the Misty figure rose from group, she chuckled. "Going to kill me with fish?"

He struggled in the water as his eyes glowed blue, fingers crackling. "Not fish. I've prepared something far more painful." He grinned ominously.
