After Renjiro told Miko everything about her, she stared at him with a stunned look on her face.
However after just a few seconds, she frowned and said, "Even if you somehow know all about me, it doesn't mean anything since you can do nothing with that information."
"Well, it's indeed correct, I can't do anything to you with this information. How about this - I will help you find the whereabouts of your daughters." He offered.
However, Miko didn't trust him one bit and asked. "I was given this mission to kidnap you in exchange for information regarding my daughters. So they might already know about my daughters' whereabouts. So if I tell you anything, I don't know what they will do to them. And the biggest question is why should I trust you?"
"Come on, you destroyed all of your details at least ten years ago. I found your history in just one night, that shows my capabilities. As for trust, what made you trust whoever you're working for? I mean did they give any evidence that they knew credible information about your daughters?" He asked back as he slowly started to understand her intentions and motivations.
"The underworld is a cruel place where you can't trust anyone. However I know a person that I can trust and he was the one who told me about this mission. But it was not the main reason - more than anything I was desperate. It's been a decade and I've gotten nowhere near my goal. Sometimes I even wonder why I'm still alive." She replied as her head dropped down.
"Seriously, they didn't even give you any evidence and you're ready to die just based on someone you know vouched for them? Actually let's forget about that. Now, why do you think they won't do anything to your family if you don't reveal any information? I mean if I hand you over to the authorities, they can make you spill out the facts.
I heard they have some good people who can make you speak the truth with their quirks or something. And if I actually kill you now, the people who gave you the mission might think that you already spilled the beans and go after your daughters. All this hypothesis is based on the fact that they actually knew credible information about your daughters.
"As for what makes you trust me - it's simple. Because I was not some underworld big boss, I was a man who just completed college. I don't have any reason to betray you. I mean, the only thing that will cost me to search for your daughters is money, which I can easily arrange. And in exchange, you will not only give me the information, you will also work for me. I will reunite you with your daughters if we find them. So what's your answer?"
They both looked into each other's eyes for at least five minutes.
After a while, Miko sighed, "I will tell you everything I know and I can only pray to God that you won't betray me."
Renjiro was surprised at how quickly she made the decision. Or perhaps she had already decided to tell him everything while waiting for him to make a suitable offer.
After that she started telling him everything she knew about the kidnapping plan.
"After my ex-husband vanished with my daughters, I searched everywhere for them. I did many illegal things trying to find any information, but I couldn't locate them no matter what. During that time, I realized how useful my Mist Quirk was and started using it to my advantage. I don't even know when, but I slowly became part of the underworld in Japan."
She paused, taking a ragged breath before continuing her story. "I used all my money and did a lot of dirty work for shady people, trying to find even a tiny lead on my daughters. But it was to no avail. However, just a few days ago, I finally got a solid mission to kidnap someone."
Miko looked directly at Renjiro with desperation in her eyes. "The mission was to capture you! I was told your mother is very influential, so kidnapping you could pressure her to meet their demands. In exchange for completing this job, my contractor promised information on where my girls were taken. It was the closest I've come in years to finding them, so I couldn't pass it up no matter what." She finished.
"Seriously? That's all the information you have?" His face didn't show any expression.
"Haha, of course not, I wanted to see your reaction." She laughed lightly. However, Renjiro was not amused.
"Ok ok, I will tell you everything. My quirk might not be the strongest but it is the most efficient for assassination and kidnapping missions. I worked for them for a long time and my usual contact, the man I trusted, Hikari, he knows that I won't take risky missions like this one. But he tried to entice me by saying that this mission was a big deal - that I would be set for life if I successfully kidnapped you.
"Well, he did have a lot of confidence in me since I've never failed a mission until today. He told me this was no simple kidnapping. They need you for something far more important than money. Hikari said your father had connections to the underworld and did some shady things-"
"What? What the fuck are you talking about?" Renjiro suddenly interrupted her.
"You're lying. I know my father and he was not that type of person. You're speaking bullshit, aren't you?" He questioned her, his brows creased together.
"Hmm, I thought you were quite smart. You really don't think that your father, who was a billionaire entrepreneur that built his company from nothing, didn't do any shady stuff for the benefit of his company or even his personal benefit? Well, believe whatever you want but I'm just telling you what I know. I trusted you so you also need to trust me - that's how this works. If you don't want to listen I won't speak." She replied back with a hint of sarcasm in her voice.
Renjiro gritted his teeth. "Alright, keep speaking."
Miko smiled and opened her mouth again, "They want something from your father, probably thats the reason they're trying to capture you. That's all I know for sure. My speculation is that they're not only after you but also your whole family. Trust me boy, although I don't know the name of the organization, they are not some small gang. They have influence in both the underworld and legitimate business and political worlds. My suggestion is to just give them what they want and they'll probably leave your family alone."
She leaned back in her chair, finishing her explanation.
Renjiro was sitting with a look of contemplation on his face, but it was just a facade. In reality he was shocked. Just a day ago he was partying, and now he was hearing that some powerful organization was after him and his family. Of course it would be a shock. Not only that, the things she said about his father - he still could not believe them.
Miko raised her head, "To tell you the truth, the reason I hesitated to give you this information was not because I don't trust you, but because it was a gamble. If I told you everything, I would have to rely on you to help search for my daughters. It was a gamble because I know you probably won't live much longer. It doesn't matter if I fail this mission, they'll just send someone stronger after you."
"And what made you take that gamble anyway?" He asked, his face and voice devoid of emotion.
"There wasn't any particular reason. It's not like I had much of a choice after being captured by you. And you actually defeated me, so I guess that helped in my decision making."
"So, what now? What are your next moves?" Miko asked interestedly, leaning forward in her seat.
"Now, we're going to call the police," Renjiro suddenly declared with a smile.
Miko's face froze as she looked at him in shock. "You! Why are you doing this? I already told you everything I know, why-"
"Alright alright, stop. I'm not actually going to hand you over to the police. It's just that I can't keep this whole home invasion thing a complete secret. Since the guards already knew what happened, they'll have to inform my mom. She'll definitely want an investigation done, so I just told my security staff that the invader had run away before I even got home. So there will probably be a police case filed and a small investigation, but they won't find you because there's no camera footage since you already destroyed the security room equipment.
"And you're currently in a safe room, this was a reinforced, secret room built to survive natural disasters like Earthquakes and home invasions. Only my mother and I even know there's a safe room in this mansion, so the police won't come anywhere near it.
"It also helps you out. Whatever organization you were working for will probably think you fled even before I encountered you, once they see the news. They'll either search for you themselves or simply abandon you. That's a pretty good plan, right?" He asked as he stood up from his chair.
Miko just looked at him, completely stunned by everything he was saying.
Renjiro turned around and started walking towards the door. Suddenly he stopped, came back, picked up his noodles bowl, and then went to the door again.
"I still don't trust you enough to let you freely hang around me, so stay here until I come back. The sedation will probably last a few more hours. Even if you do regain control of your body, you still can't escape because there are no gaps in this room whatsoever. So don't even try anything." He said firmly.
With that, he exited the room, closing the enormous door behind him.
Miko, who had been stunned into silence, suddenly came back to her senses. 'My gamble was indeed correct - this guy is no ordinary man. How can a twenty year old stay so calm when attacked and make such thorough plans? Even after I told him about his father he only lost his temper for a little while before reverting back to normal. I underestimated him before but now, I think I made the right decision. But how dare that bastard leave me here tied to a chair like this!' She fumed.
