Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Unexpected Revelations

Tamara's Point of View

As I groggily woke up to the tune of "Sue Me" by Sabrina Carpenter, I realized it was 6 am on Monday - the first day of school. With a sarcastic "Yay" muttered under my breath, I stretched my arms and got out of bed. I had already picked out my clothes the night before–a pleated yellow skirt, a black long-sleeve crop top, and black socks. I gathered my outfit and went to the bathroom, which I shared with my twin and cousin, to freshen up and prepare for the day ahead.

Thirty minutes later, I made it out of the bathroom with perfect timing, walking out to see my brother about to knock.

"Good Morning, Danny," I said as I moved out of the bathroom doorway to let my brother walk in. "Morning, Mara," Danny said sleepily as he closed the bathroom door. I chuckled as I walked downstairs to the kitchen where Ji Hoon was eating cereal.

"Morning," I said as I poured a glass of orange juice. "Hey, Mara, Is Danny getting ready?" He asked him as a cereal spooned into his mouth. "Yep, he'll be down soon," I replied, taking a seat next to Ji Hoon. I asked as I sipped my orange juice, "Hey, where did Aunt Miyeun go?" My cousin replied as he got up to put his bowl in the sink.

"She went to work early because she has a high-profile case she's working on." Our aunt is a prominent lawyer in the town known for tackling significant cases.

I nodded and understood her dedication to her work. Aunt Miyeun was always passionate about her job and worked hard to achieve success in her field. "That's typical of her," I said with a small smile. "Always taking on big cases and working long hours." Ji Hoon nodded in agreement. "Yeah, she's always been like that. It's admirable, but I hope she takes time for herself, too." We both knew how much Aunt Miyeun loved her work, but we also worried about her burning herself.

When we finished our breakfast, Danny finally made his appearance. He stumbled down the stairs. "Morning, everyone," he mumbled, plopping down next to me.

I stifled a laugh, knowing that Danny was not a morning person.

"Good morning, sleepyhead," Ji Hoon teased, laughing.

Danny groaned in response, not in the mood for jokes so early in the morning. However, I could see a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. We finished our breakfast and quickly gathered our things to leave for school.

As we walked out of the door, I felt excitement and nervousness on the first day.

While strolling to Fay-wood High School, a female voice caught us mid-conversation, as we heard Ji Hoon's name being called. We turned around and saw a petite Asian girl with silver-gray hair wearing a black hairband and a dark red cropped top with long sleeves, black jeans, and white Converse shoes. "Hey, Mikasa!" Ji Hoon greeted the girl, whom we now knew as Mikasa, and approached us. "This is my cousins, Tamara and Daniel, they are the same year as you actually," He said as he motioned to us. "Nice to meet you," I said as I put my hand out for a handshake. "Nice to meet you both," Mikasa responded with a smile as she shook my hand before repeating the same to my brother.

Daniel and I couldn't help but notice how confident and charismatic Mikasa appeared. As we continued our walk towards Fay-Wood High School, Mikasa kept us engaged in conversation, asking us about ourselves and our interests.

"So, did you guys get your schedules yet?" she asked as we walked through the doors of the high school.

"Yeah, we did," Danny said as he looked at the schedule. "Cool! Let's see what class we have together, oh by the way, what are your locker numbers?" Mikasa said while comparing our schedules, " Locker 109" "Locker 111" and "Locker 118" Daniel, Ji-hoon and I said at once.

"Great! Tamara, we are locker buds and all three juniors have 1st period together," she said as we walked down the hall. The boys walk to their lockers. "OK, Danny, we will meet at Miss. Jonas room 102, right?" I said, looking at my brother.

"Alright," He said as he turned to his locker to lock the communion lock on it.

Mikasa and I walked over to our locker to unlock our locks on them before walking to the first period together.
