Alex barely had time to process what had just happened. He had assumed his quest was a failure, given that he hadn't killed any monsters during the day.
What he didn't realize was that the darkness he created had brought the surrounding area under his dominion. Consequently, as the creature in front of him rampaged through the forest, it unknowingly killed dozens of monsters, inadvertently crediting Alex with their defeat.
Confronted with the creature mere meters away, a paralyzing fear overtook him. Frozen in place, he could do nothing but watch as a flurry of system messages and warnings began to populate his vision.
