BAM!
Julie walked out of the room slamming the door behind her, she hadn't even realized that her cheeks were stained with tears until they dropped to the floor, Julie began to sob effortlessly, her legs gave in and she fell to the cold floor, Julie was devastated, she was being gaslighted by her cousin, a girl who she had taken as her own sister and was caring for, her face was pale, Julie was sobbing bitterly, she couldn't believe she had worked up her arse for this long without anything in return but insults from her husband and her so-called cousin.
It wasn't long ago that her colleague at the office had gotten divorced, she never knew it would soon be her turn, Julie was petrified, and she began to regret all of her sacrifices.
Julie immediately got up, she didn't want them to see her in this embarrassing state and think they had defeated her.
I shouldn't cry my eye out because of those suckers, She advised herself.
Julie hurriedly took her luggage and headed towards the elevator, she was glad the corridor was empty and no one had seen her in this state of sadness and emptiness, or else her name would be the topic of their gossip.
Julie got to the elevator and descended to the lobby, she hadn't figured out where to go yet, but she knew she had to get as far away as possible from Marlon and Serenity. The thought of her living with those suckers made her want to puke.
Unfortunately, the lobby was crowded, Julie saw women of her age dressed in party gowns, she hadn't worn something like that in a long time, and she hadn't had time to engage in fun activities since her Mum fell ill and had to take up the responsibilities of the family and even more when she got married to Marlon, it felt like she was stuck in the abyss after getting married to him.
Julie tried her best to hide herself from neighbors from noticing her already swollen eye, her face was puffy and her eyes were red from weeping, dark circles were more visible from all those late nights at work, her blond her was messy, and it looked like it hadn't been washed for a whole month, her suit blazer and skirt were squeezed out and her shoes were nothing to even talk about, she was miserable and unkempt.
"See me looking like a crazy bitch, seems like Serenity was right all along", Julie scoffed.
She thankfully got out of the apartment building without being noticed.
Julie waited outside of the apartment, it was dark, the night sky was bright and the roads were busy.
Los Angeles is a busy place, people come in and out of town for personal and business means so it was always difficult to get a taxi, but luckily for Julie she waited a while before a taxi drew closer to her.
The taxi stopped in front of Julie, and she got in the back seat and stayed quiet, she put down the rear window glass, the cold breeze of the night immediately hit her face and she closed her eyes.
The thought of Julie divorcing Marlon hadn't changed, but she needed to time things right, her mother's health was deteriorating with each passing day and Julie wanted to protect her mother, she loved her mother and wanted to see her live.
She also didn't want to hand over fifty percent of her properties to Marlon since he did nothing to help in her success.
Julie wondered if the prenup would be canceled since Marlon had cheated, but he would deny it for sure, and no one would believe her if she said her nineteen years old cousin whom she had been caring for was sleeping with her husband.
Maybe if I hadn't spoilt Serenity none of this would have happened, maybe if I hadn't worked my arse off and had persuaded Marlon to be a better man and take up his responsibilities we wouldn't… Julie continued to question herself.
"...."
"Ring ring"
Julie's phone interrupted her thought, she took out her phone.
"Hello, Mrs. Brooke, I have everything prepared for the new president, yes, I'll have the documents reviewed tomorrow.
It was obvious Julie was exhausted but she still managed to remain professional throughout the call. I hope the new president would not be a pain in my arse, Julie thought hopefully.
Goodnight to you too, Mrs Brooke.
Julie sighed after hanging up, she tossed her phone into her bag and leaned against the seat.
"You look, exhausted miss, Are you ok?", the taxi driver said examining her through the rearview mirror, he wondered why she looked messy like a maniac, her eyes were red as if she had just finished crying, the taxi driver was nervous and careful with his questions to avoid provoking her.
Julie took her time to reply, she was exhausted, "I'm ok", Julie replied shortly not wanting to share her personal problems with a stranger. There was an awkward silence in the taxi, Julie unconsciously touched her wedding ring, while thinking of everything that had transpired that night, The thought of throwing the ring out of the window crossed her mind but she was interrupted by the taxi driver before she could make her decision.
" Is your husband the cause of your teary eye",
Julie was shocked by this question.
