Chapter 1 - Doppelganger

=Write a story about someone coming across their doppelganger.=

In a world where everyone's uniqueness was celebrated and encouraged, Sarah never thought she would come face to face with her doppelganger. It was a myth, a bedtime story for small children who didn't want to go to sleep.

One morning as she walked down the bustling city streets, she bumped into a stranger who looked exactly like her. The resemblance was uncanny, from the same shade of auburn hair to the identical freckles on their cheeks.

The other girl quickly apologised and continue to walk further without lifting her eyes.

"That can't be," Sarah whispered. She looked around to see if anyone else was noticing their encounter but everyone was in their own worlds.

Curiosity got the better of her, and she mustered the courage to follow and approach the mysterious look-alike. She wanted to touch the person to make sure she is not dreaming.

"Excuse me, miss," Sarah tapped on the girls shoulder. She had a feeling this encounter might unravel a series of unexpected events that would challenge her perception of reality and lead her on a journey of self-discovery but ... nothing happened. The other girl didn't react.

"Can you hear me?" Sarah tried again, this time with a slightly louder voice. But still, the girl walked on without acknowledging her existence.

Sarah was puzzled and a little scared. She had so many questions running through her mind. Was this her long-lost twin? Or was it some kind of practical joke? Did the girl ignored her on purpose? Or genuinely didn't hear her? She pinched herself to make sure she wasn't dreaming, but the sharp pain in her arm confirmed that this was real.

Determined to get some answers, Sarah followed the girl for a few more blocks until they reached a quiet park. The girl finally stopped at a bench and sat down, still not acknowledging Sarah's presence.

"Who are you?" Sarah finally mustered the courage to ask. The girl turned to look at her, and Sarah was taken aback by how much they really did look alike. The girl had the same green eyes and dimpled smile as her.

"I am you," the girl replied calmly.

Sarah's jaw dropped. She couldn't believe what she was hearing.

"That's impossible," she said, shaking her head.

"You may not believe it, but it is true. We are doppelgangers, identical in every way," the girl explained. Even her voice sounded just like Sarah's.

"But how..." Sarah's mind was spinning. She plopped on the bench next to the mysterious girl within a care about her surroundings. She didn't see people walking past them. She didn't hear birds chirping in nearby trees or distant noises of the city. Everything faded into the background.

She had always thought doppelgangers were just an urban legend, but here she was, face to face with her own. "What is happening? Why?"

The girl smiled sadly.

"I don't have all the answers, but I know that we are connected in some way. I can feel your emotions and thoughts, and I know you can feel mine too."

Sarah nodded, still trying to wrap her head around this revelation. "So, what now?"

The girl shrugged. "I don't know. But I think we need to stick together. Having a doppelganger is almost impossible. There must be some explanation what doesn't include us being a mystical creatures." The girl flashed a smile. "I noticed you couple days ago but didn't have the courage to approach you and I lost you in the crowd."

Sarah couldn't deny that there was a strange sense of familiarity and comfort in being with her doppelganger.

"What's your name?" Sarah couldn't hold her curiousity anymore as her emotions and crazy thoughts calmed down a bit.

"Sasha."

"I'm Sarah."

They both looked into each others eyes and sensed their emotions. It was surreal. It felt like they finally are complete.

After some time in silence Sasha whispered. "Do you feel it? Someone is watching us. And not in a good way."

"Yes," Sarah closed her eyes and whispered back. She felt the answer to her previous question before she even asked it. Someone was following Sasha and her doppelganger didn't want to expose them on the busy street.

She hesitated for a moment, but then nodded in agreement. "Okay, let's stick together," she said with a determined look in her eyes. "It would be great to be unicorns but we are not. There must be something going on."

The other girl smiled again, this time with relief. "Great, I knew you would understand."

Together, the two of them set off on a journey to uncover the truth about their mysterious connection.

As they walked, they couldn't help but marvel at how similar they were in every aspect. They laughed and joked, feeling like they had known each other for years. But as they delved deeper into their shared history, they also uncovered dark secrets and hidden truths that left them both shaken. They realized that their doppelganger relationship was more than just a coincidence – it was a part of a larger, dangerous plot that threatened their lives.

Despite the danger, both girls were determined to face it together. They were inseparable now.
