Chapter 42 - Chapter Forty: Unheeded Warning

After leaving the three wolf girls, Alex walked back to the village, where he was greeted by the mayor.

"Did you find those beasts?" Willem asked.

"Yeah." Alex said without emotion.

"Good, then that means you-"

Willem was about to smile and congratulate Alex before Alex lifted the man by his shirt collar.

"You told me they were monsters. NOT PEOPLE". Alex yelled angryly. "You lied to me."

"I didn't lie..." Willem managed to say. "They aren't humans; they're nothing more than monsters!"

Alex laughed in anger. "Monsters? You want me to kill people who are just defending themselves?"

"What right do they have?" Willem said. "They are beasts, nothing more."

"N-Nothing more?" Alex said, clenching his teeth.

The argument between the two had gathered attention from the surrounding citizens.

"They lived here before you, yet you decided to attack them, kill them, and now hunt them down. And you call them the monsters?" Alex said before throwing Willem against a house, giving time for two of the town guards to separate the two.

"They are nothing more than beasts! Hideous creations by a cruel god! They didn't deserve the beautiful land they lived on! Why should my family starve when those dogs could eat to their hearts content?!" Willem yelled out. "Those bitches in the woods are nothing more than that."

Alex unclenched his fists, which sent some relief into Willem's mind.

"Maybe he's finally seeing reason?" Willem thought to himself.

Alex then reached for his mask and took it off, staring at Willem with his now glowing purple eyes.

"P-Purple eyes?" Willem said it shockingly.

Alex then created a bolt of purple lightning into his hand and threw a bolt directly at the mayor's house, setting it on fire, which, due to it being wooden, was quickly being consumed by the flames.

"What the fuck do you think you are doing?!" Willem yelled out.

"My first and last warning, Willem. If you dare to try and touch those girls again, I will personally kill you and everyone who dares get in my way. I will burn your village down until it's nothing but ash and soot. Then finally, I will salt the very grounds on which you grow your crops and force your remaining villagers to starve." Alex said, staring daggers at Willem, causing a commotion amongst the people of the village. "Remember, that's your only warning. Hopefully you won't see me again, for your sake."

Alex then quickly left the village, heading back into the woods, as the people of the village started to panic while some guards started attempting to put out the fires from Willem's house.

Willem just sat on the ground, clenching his fists. "That little bastard...he won't get away with this!"

Alex returned back to the cave with the girls, both of whom were still wary of Alex.

"Were you followed?!" Reyna asked.

"No. I gave them a warning about what would happen if they dared to come attack you. How's Daria?"

"She's...recovering." the mother of the two said. "Slowly but surely."

"Good, can I check on her?" Alex asked.

"With me watching. Reyna, make sure he wasn't followed." The woman said.

"Okay!" Reyna said as she ran deeper into the forest.

"Come." The mother said.

The two walked into the cave, where Daria was now seemingly relaxed. Inside of her being in pain, she looked almost like she was in a peaceful sleep.

Y/N smiled. "The medicines seemed to help. Hopefully they help her fight off whatever she has."

"My name is Severa." the woman said, introducing herself.

"You finally feel comfortable telling me your name?" Alex asked.

"You are helping save my daughter's life. It's the least I can do." Severa said. "But do not mistake this for trust."

"I won't." Alex said.

"MOM!"

Reyna came sprinting in.

"Reyna? What's wrong?" Severa asked.

"Those villagers, they seem to be getting ready to attack!" Reyna cried out.

"YOU!" Severa walked up to Alex with her dagger at the ready. "You betrayed us!"

"I didn't." Alex said it plainly. "But it seems Willem didn't adhere to my warning. I'll handle them."

"You-"

Severa was quickly taken off by Alex's glare.

"Severa, you have no reason to trust me, and I understand. But I refuse to let innocent people be killed by bigots like them. Believe me, they will suffer."
