After both Alex and Kyssee had returned from their fight against the ogre, they walked back to the guild together. Once they reached the receptionist, they cashed in the bounty, earning a pretty decent haul in rewards.
"Perfect" means we can eat however much we want for the dinner date." Kyssee said with a smile.
"Sure. Although I don't know really anywhere around here." Alex said.
Then the receptionist spoke up. "You could go to Marges. She is without question the best cook in the village."
"Sounds good to me!" Kyssee said happily.
The two began to walk out of the guild together, smiling, with the receptionist waving at them.
"Goodbye you two, have fun on your date!"
Kyssee waved back, smiling, and the two walked down to Marges. When they opened the door, they saw a few people sitting down eating around the restaurant. There were two waitresses moving around, handing out food and taking orders, while a woman was in the back cooking food by herself.
Just then one of the waitresses noticed the pair and walked up to them with a smile, "Hello! Welcome to Marges. Dinner for two?"
"That's right. Is there a corner booth we can sit at?" Alex asked.
"Yes sir. Follow me, please." The waitress answered.
The waitress led the two to a corner booth, and Alex and Kyssee sat across from each other. Then the waitress asked "Can I start you two off with some drinks?"
"Water, please." Alex said plainly.
"Ale for me!" Kyssee ordered.
"Understood. I'll be back in a second." The waitress said before walking away.
"So...Alex?" Kyssee asked. "Could you...tell me a bit more about yourself? I feel like we hardly know anything about each other."
Alex sighed. "What do you want to know?"
"Just things about yourself. Where are you from? Hobbies? Or even your favorite color?" Kyssee said listing examples. "I just want to know about the person I'm traveling with."
"Okay... I'm from a small, noble household. It's just me, my mother and sister." Alex answered.
"Where are they?" Kyssee asked.
"With my aunt, I hope." Alex said.
"Why did you leave them?" Kyssee asked, still curious.
Alex sighed again. "Things...happened. Had to leave. Been traveling for a little less than a year now.
"Do you plan on going back to them?"
Alex looked down with a sad expression. "I...I don't know."
Kyssee grabbed Alex's hand, which was laid out on the table. "I think you should. There's nothing more important than family. I bet when they see you again, they will hug you tighter than ever before."
"Maybe...though both of them may slap me for leaving." Alex said.
"Well, at least it'll come from a place of love." Kyssee said, giggling.
Alex chuckled. "I guess."
Then the waitress came back and gave the two of them their drinks and also took their orders. Each ordering a medium steak is the only way a steak should be eaten.
As they had begun eating, Kyssee kept glancing at Alex, slightly blushing in the process. The two had finished their meal and soon returned to the inn they were staying at.
"So...Alex?" Kyssee asked.
"Yes?" Alex answered.
"Thank you... for humoring this date with me tonight. I had fun." Kyssee said with a bright smile.
"Good. I'm glad you did." Alex said.
As they reached the room, Kyssee tapped Alex's shoulder. He was confused, so he turned around just to quickly be kissed on the lips by Kyssee.
"What was that for?" Alex said he was shocked.
"Because I wanted to do it. Goodnight Alex." Kyssee said as she walked into the room.
Alex watched her as she went inside. He couldn't lie while they had barely known each other; some part of Alex did care about her, but that scared Alex. He was scared of letting someone else in after so long. So Alex did the only thing he could think of. As the moon rose in the sky, Alex grabbed his gear and put a bag of gold under Kyssee's door before disappearing into the woods, alone once again.
