Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Deciding on the Unique Skill

All the skills were excellent and this was just a few excellent ones recommended by Defoe. If he were to go through the rest of the skills his blood pressure might just be over the roof.

****

After 2 hours of scouring through the available skills, he had a few skills that met his needs and Defoe's skill made up 90% of it.

They were five skills he thought could help him both short term and long term. Although he saw some pretty neat skills he still felt that the ones he chose could aid him better in his next life. What he needed wasn't some flashy skills that were something that he couldn't control or knock him out after usage, but something that could ensure his survivability and stability. And these skills just happened to do that for him.

[ Unique Skills ]

[ Explosive Acceleration : Tremendous boost the user's reactions and reflexes. ]

[ Unique Skills ]

[ Energy Control : This skill allows the easier manipulation of various types of energy. ]

[ Unique Skills ]

[ Energizer : This skill reduces the presence of the user making it difficult for opponents to get a better read on the user. It allows the user to prey on the energy forms of defeated foes. ]

[ Unique Skills ]

[ Skill steal: Enables the user to randomly earn skills from a dead foe. ]

[ Unique Skills ]

[ Marginal Counter: A unique reflexive sensitivity that allows the user to change the point of attack within 0.005 seconds without a change in the power of the attack. ]

Now time for elimination and deduction, I have to leave some out after I have made a thorough analysis of the skill.

The skill [ Explosive Acceleration ] I believe is an excellent skill but it will only matter in the early stages of my growth since the stronger I become the faster my reflexes or reactions become. Unless I don't place stat points on stats that will play a hidden role in the reaction. This skill might appear extraordinary but in fact, it's limited. The fact that the pros of this skill are not nearly enough to entice me makes me lose interest in its potential.

For me, this skill is out, now onto the next skill.

[ Energy Manipulation ]

'In my opinion, this skill is very high on my priority list because even if I don't go to a magic based world it would still come in handy since most worlds have chi. The fact that the description didn't say to allow the easier manipulation of mana made me fall in love with skill. Hell, even if I go to a world where there are other forms of energy and mana, it'll boost my energy reserves. And most of all it will allow me to manipulate forms of energy easier if I successfully integrate it. It will also bring a lot of versatility to my skill set. It will even play a role in my energy reserves.

The more I look at it the more I feel like I've struck gold. In my opinion, this might even be a degraded mythical skill or something. The limitations of this skill are fewer while its potential is much more extensive, so this is number one on my priority list.' Vincent was very excited as he couldn't wipe the creepy grin on his face after reducing the true potential of the skill.

With renewed vigour, he moved on to the next skill hoping to decipher more about the potential of the skill.

***

Meanwhile, Defoe was watching Vincent with keen eyes as he was making an in-depth analysis of the skills he recommended to Vincent feeling very proud of the wits and deduction ability of Vincent.

The next skill is [ Energizer ].

'What, does energy manipulation come in a set or what?

Energizer, I honestly would have glanced at and left this skill if I didn't read the description again. This skill allows me to take away energy forms of foes I have defeated. How good is that? It also masks my energy reading making me seem like a wolf in sheep's clothing, beautiful. I'm lost for words when it comes to this skill. Let's take the first description which says take energy from foes I have defeated. It just means with this skill I don't necessarily have to kill my opponent before I could get a portion of their energy to boost mine.

This means that if I win against someone in a spar my energy readings increase, absolutely perfect. It's like this skill wants me to be a battle maniac since the more opponents I defeat the more energy reserves I have. Its second effect is truly ridiculous. This skill just allows me to fool the keen perception of geezers since they won't get a good read on my power.

Another plus is that it makes the opponents underestimate me. And the appetiser of this skill is that it doesn't trigger the survival instincts of the enemy. Every living being has a sensory organ that triggers during life and death and because the energizer skill always makes me out as prey, the survival instinct does not trigger.

Take it like a lion hunting a gazelle, since the survival instincts of the lion do not trigger the lion doesn't have any inhibitions on facing the gazelle apart from it escaping and so when the gazelle counterattacks the lion won't feel anything but contempt till its dead.' After a breathless deciphering of the basis of the energizer skill, Vincent would have chosen it and any other one and ended the selection. But it took the last bit of sanity to stop him from doing that.

'This skill just became my priority.' Vincent thought to himself.

So he looked through the other skills impatient to choose energizer and another skill.

So he read through the next skill not needing to think deeply about its potential since all was said in its description.

[ Unique Skills ]

[ Skill steal: Enables the user to randomly earn skills from a dead foe. ]

'Tch! This skill needs either extreme luck or the opponent has to have fewer strong skills. In the long run, I might end up overwhelmed if I have too many skills but lesser mastery. Won't that just make me a jack of all trades but a master of none? It being random does not help at all. Let's take it that if I defeat a goblin then I get a strong Libido skill even though I naturally have a strong libido already it won't help. I'm not trying to belittle the skill, rather in my opinion this is a wonderful skill and if I had more choices, I would have taken it in a heartbeat. Maybe in the near future, I will get an opportunity to get a skill like that.' Vincent thought, disappointed in the little choice he had.

All right I've decided on the skills I want.

'But wait a minute if these skills are still here then what the hell did Prince and Hakim choose. Doesn't it mean that I'm enjoying leftovers, but I must say these are to die for. Shit, I almost got sidetracked again.' Vincent thought as he organized his thought process since he was easily distracted.

Now the skills I choose are....
