At first light the group set out from the guild hall, on foot, headed to the closest town with a river barge headed out to the coast. There where eight of them in total, one from each order within the guild, corllion and two pages to help attend to the day to day around camp.
Kyra was the leader and Teish was to be Corllion's arcane instructor , Brosh was there tank from the order of the sheild, and Gorham was with the paladin order, leaving saltor rounding out the guild members and representing the shadow order. Tish and Tish the twins where to be the paiges for the group.
Kyra's sub tasking was to test and fix any shortcomings in Corllions sword work. After having a poor initial opinion of him , Corllions quickly changed her mind or at least made an opening for him to change that opinion, by surprising her with his level of foresight to cast protection spells upon himself earlier in the day. What she would learn the night before , is Young Silversword had stood unmoving in front of the elders for six days before he spoke his vows. The next part filled her with as much dreed as it did with wonder, this untrained boy , a whelp of a man carried a exact copy of the blade carried by Gorath, the oath breaker! And what's more is he had the blade crafted from a memory from his dreams battling vampires.
After digesting this information, Kyra made a silent vows to be the one to end young Corllion if he should ever fall from grace.
She hated Gorath more than most, she was orphaned because of the monster. To have to see that blade once again sent chills down her spine.
After the first hour of the journey, Kyra called for Corllion to walk with her. So let me ask something of you she stated, how did you know to make your spell trigger when you went to sleep? Or is this a common practice for you?
No not particularly, but having seen its success, it will become a part of my daily routine now, why do you ask? I ask because not many veterans from the borderland wars have the foresight to cast a upon sleep trigger command for a spell. And to have the spell adjusted in such a way it only triggers when you go to sleep not pass out or knocked out. Am I correct? She asked
Corllion said , Yes that is the way of its casting, I just remembered what master Avostad said at breakfast that morning was to eat my entire meal I would need its nourishment, and it would be the last one for days. So I assumed me taking my vows to the guild wouldn't be of any particular danger, yet would be trying in some regards so I figured I might be to exhausted to cast anything once done. So I set it up that way while I waited to be called for since we had a few extra minutes to spare.
As she listened to him the way he explained it to her it made the most perfect and normal thing in the world to do under those circumstances with the information he had at the time, he also named off a few other spells he had previously prepared in the same manner. A few more questions and he was explaining his abilities to feel magics that have an area effect, and the ones cast directly on him, and the limits of those. When they started this part of their talks Teish, moved up a bit closer taking mental notes on what Corllion was saying about his ability to detect certain magic's. Saltor, took note of everything said, and committed it to memory.
And as Kyra had assumed Corllion was well versed, and educated. He had an understanding of many things beyond what his two hundred years would suggest. And she could see he absolutely absorbed everything he was shown or told like a sponge. He had a infectious passion for learning anything and everything if he thought it would make him better with the sword or a magical item or spell.
He went at everything as if he where a human and not a elf, as if by the age he is now he would be long gone and returned to the earth if he didn't learn and perfect everything as quickly as possible.
She continued to ask questions of him throughout the day as the walked , gaining knowledge for who and how he was, these things would give her insight into what kind of swordsman he would be.
Once they had put a good 10-12 miles behind them they set camp for a short while. Kyra took up her blade and told Corllion to come with her and bring his sword. She found a small clearing, unsheathed her sword and immediately fell into to a dance of sorts, her sword began to hum. As she went through the complex routine of cuts and slashs, slight breaks for blocking and deflecting oncoming strikes her sword dang it song, never missing a cord. The blocks and deflection poses would highlight a different verse of the song more than a pause or break. When she was done. She came to a low guard position, and told Corllion to draw his blade and to go through all the basic stances and sword positions he knew. As he did as he was instructed, she would offer a word of warning or advice here and there, manly about an elbow to far out of line with the body or a foot being to drawn in , how it would affect his balance under the real pressure of a fight. For every one arm or leg or blade position she could spot, she would have four comments on his feet. Kyra went on to say, your foot work and position is as much as if not more importantly than your skill with the blade. A giant oak can't become that big with out a good root system! Can it? She asked Corllion was busy concentrating , on the corrections she was making to his positions and form while trying to commit to memory everything she was saying he missed that Kyra had asked a question. She stopped and looked at him and waited until he noticed she had stopped talking. He played back the last few things she had said in his mind and was , she indeed had asked a question. Um yes it has to have big strong deep roots to support it size. Good she remarked, also pay more attention to the here and now! Shall we, we have all the time in the world to address any issues you may have, I hat moves us to the next point have presence of mind of the heat and now. Study and learn we are back home in the hall. Experience all this tasking has to offer, we will train when we have time, and I promise you that you will be amongst the best in the hall with a blade by the time I'm done with you.
Kyra put away her blade and approached Corllion , let see this sword of yours. As he turned the blade around to hand the hilt to Kyra she swept out her left arm catching him in the stomach and ripping the blade away with her right hand. Corllion was late to react in such close quarters, and by someone that was supposed to be teaching him, he was unaware of this turning into a soaring match!
He might have been late but not that far behind her her strike at his midsection struck but not as hard as she was wanting because he caught up to her speed and was able Negate most of the force. But he was unable to stop her from disarming him, she now had his blade .
So why this design? She asked looking at the blade. Oh and never surrender your blade so easily again! Do you understand?
Yes master , he responded. He stood up , it was in my dreams until the day I had it made, and it fits my style. You do know the origins of this blade design, and it wasn't until after his fall did he use this weapon? Yea I have been told so. Then why do you still insist on carrying it? Kyra asked, her hurt and pain almost seeping trough into her words as almost as if it where a silent plea. he gave her the same answer he had given Avostad, just because he used it for evil doesn't mean my use of it will be as well. The sword is not a living thing it doesn't know evil. it's the hand that guides it. Your sword might not be but his does have an evil intelligence about it. By all accounts. It's said the vampire he saught to kill before his fall , was finally defeated and its soul was trapped in a vessel until it was merged with his sword.
So not all but some sword do have a life of there own , and some still have a presence of there own if not a full blown soul. Certain blades crave blood and can in turn give life to the wielder. Other can boost the powers of the mind. Other enchantments have been so heavily placed on certain blades that they become something else entirely. Take for instance the ore we are journeying to find, it is said to have properties that allow it to hold great enchantments for fire and will also give immense protection from fire. So Either way it is a set of armor or blade fire enhancement would be a great boon for us.
This sparked a interest in Corllion, yes but such ore are normally if good for armor not good for a blade! He stated. Oh you know a bit about smithing do you. Only what I've been taught. And may I ask who told you such? Corllion had to think fast and phrase this properly, he was the smith that forged my sword for me, I had insisted to be present while it was being made and I just asked questions and he was very forthcoming with insight. You could tell he enjoyed his work and was more than eager to talk about his craft.
Kyra didn't miss the tell tails of what Corllion had said, the craftsmanship of the blade was exquisite, no mear smith forged this blade.
Your smith is right for the most part , but we bladesingers have learned a thing or two over the generations, on how to mold things to our design.
