A few days later on the river barge, Corllion was at the rail of the barge with Teish casting spells at different trees and old logs washed up on the banks. She would give an explanation then an example, the have Corllion cast the same spell. To gauge is arcane ability. So far his grasp and understanding, of everything she had shown him, had raised her own opinion of him, he was far further along than the normal novice the guild usually saw. And the power he could generate for each spell was like three or four times the strength of even her spells of the same kind. And the amount of energy he need to cast it was a fraction of what she had to spend for the same ones. Basically he's spent less for so much more. It was baffling to say the least. She was quickly coming to the same conclusion as Kyra, and before long Corllion would be beyond her ability to teach. Matter of fact she was digging deeper into her spell books just trying to find something he didn't know or some edge that would prove worth teaching him. But even the spells he had never heard of , he could cast them the first time after seeing it only once.
After the dock side Explanation he hadn't felt that magical touch that had been trying to observe him before boarding the barge. He felt certain it was one of his group but to which one he had no clue, the only two that he knew for certain it wasn't Kyra or Trish, he had been in close proximity to both for long enough now to know there touch with magic. He felt that Tish and Tosh couldn't be the source because they lacked had never used even the slightest self born magic around him, they made use of two items that had the ability to start fires and to Purify water, both where only used when cooking meals and getting a fire going.
He knew Brosh, could cast but never saw him do so, but he couldn't rule him out. Gorham seemed the type to be more forthcoming about things and from there interactions the days before, he didn't think the elf would have tried to set him up with the dock working thugs, the man had more style than that. Which only left Saltor. This made Corllion watch him more closely, the more he thought on it he was the only one that made sense. Kyra had confirmed to Corllion that she had been observing him but by normal means and under the direction of Avostad, the guild master, as his martial tutor, but after the fight with the orkins, she confessed she would be of little help in that area. Thus the shift to Teish with the arcane lessons. Corllion , appreciated her candor in telling him, knowing she did not owe him an explanation, due to his rank in the guild, but as Kyra put it, she felt she owed it to all the members of the group , to keep them informed as best she could so they could make the best decisions if needs be in case of an attack, or other situations, where independent action may be required. Kyra might hold the title of first blade, but she was also a master of tactics. And having well informed and trained people where of great use to a captain.
The days past and Corllion , was moving at a tremendous pace with his magical understanding, Teish might have felt she couldn't teach him much but the way she went about her duties, helped him find deeper understanding of spells , their modification , and ways they could be employed in combat along side his blade.
At night he worked diligently on a project he had the idea for based off the charm bracelet he was gifted by the leader of a merchant band they had saved from a orkin attack. He was building a prototype weapon hilt. He had asked the merchant about what magical enchantments where used, to craft the charms but that was the one thing the leader of the caravan would not let go of. But Corllion had already figured most of it out. Now he sought to combine his spell components into the hilt, and cast a everlasting enchantment on it where the could be used over and over again, he sought to do the with all his know spells, so he wouldn't have to carry them all the time. With a slight alteration of how the charm could summon the real item, he mad it where as he cast while the hilt was in his had it would summon the elemental energy of the component and allow the casting with out using up said component. This made casting faster since he would no long need to search and find the with it embedded into the hilt it was already in hand. He then moves on to setting the gems that he could channel energy from or through to get fire, lighting, light, a moon stone to pull water from the air, etc.
Kyra knocked on Corllions door, when he said enter, she stepped in and looked at the assortment of tools and equipment laid out on the small table.
What kind of project is this you have going? She asked with a fair amount of interest. It's a hilt that had all your spell components built into it, so you can cast faster with out interruption. Kyra instantly became more interested in this project, she could see the potential, other from the guild had , had this same thought, but from what she knew and could see , Corllions progress was way futher along. And anything that would help a bladesinger, cast faster and reduce there Encumbrance in what all they had to carry , would be a win on all fronts.
So answer me this, how are you crafting the enchantments to know what components you need at which times? She asked. It is based off of the charms on the bracelet that I got from the merchant caravan, he's replied. Each component will have its own sigil, when you put thought into that icon, the proper components are summoned in an elemental form of energy that goes into the casting of the spell. this means all your spells will have to be reworked to incorporate the component as that elemental energy instead of the Item itself. That way the flow is uninterrupted. Kyra again had to reevaluate her opinion of Corllion again, Not only was he amazing with the blade and adept with the arcane arts. His mind showed a depth of understanding, one would expect to see from a wisened old Scholar. Yet he was only two Centuries old.
