Chapter 9 - the elders!

In the grand hall of the bladesingers guild, ten people still remained. the assembled elders and there seconds and the guild leader Avostad. A shadowy figure was talking to the assembled members, I have already spoken with Avostad and the shadows are a good fit for the boy at this time! Stated Brizal. Gravath the beacon elder nodded and looked to her left to the paladin elder. Durason was the epitome of stoicism and righteousness, well if he's not a fit for the shadows as of yet does that mean the light would suit him better? Asked Brizal? Quietly hoping this to be true, it would be logical that the sheild and shadows would both not be fit, which would leave beacons and paladins. Ok before this turns into a horse trading swap meet, I've already decided his path shall be unorthodox. He will learn at the hands of all but the shadows for the next 300 years. Eyes around the room opened wide at hearing this. You are setting him on the same path as our fallen brother? Asked Durason.

I know nothing less than that will do. I believe and I hope that he will be able once ready to close that chapter in our history. I also believe that only someone that has traveled the same path will have what it takes to ultimately defeat Gorath! Avostad said plainly. Durason, nodded reluctantly agreeing but, he also felt the weight of the situation, this decision could have the guild see another great brother rise only to fall ether to the same darkness that took Titan. Or to have silversword fall to the blade of the monster Gorath.

Abostad, turned to face a heavily scared old elfand said, Toradon and master of shields, have the first blade put him through his paces see what all he knows of sword play first thing on the morrow! Toradon half closed his eyes and nodded his agreement. Avostad then turned to Gravath after Kyra is done with him please have someone test his arcane abilities. I want a full assessment, so we know what to focus on in the coming days. Brizal, I know he will not train in your arts for quite sometime but have someone keep a eye on him none the same, and remember he will know of any magic's used near by let's begin testing the range and strength of this ability he has see if there are any holes we can patch up if any!

Are we all in agreement? Said Avostad. One by one the four elders of each order gave there Acknowledgment, as they all turned to leave, Kyra the first sword of the guild walked in. Master Avostad, might I have a word about this new tasking. The instructions for to test and most likely train the newest member of the guild, would put her in a bind so to speak.

Kyra, my deal why has this bothered you so? I've tasked this of you many times in the past. Amongst all the members of the guild we elders, choose you to carry the mantle of first sword. It is not a rule but a common practice for the first sword. Said Avostad. Kyra answered with saying, It's not that I don't want to master it's that I can't at this time take another student. I had planned to take this summer season to search out a rumor of a new ore found some five thousand leagues away past the crimson isle's along the cost of dragosh lands. This untimely appearance of a new member of the guild would set us back centuries, in our armor and weapons crafting, if my information where to be true.

Well since he is not going to follow the normal progression of a member take him with you. Test him thoroughly and fix any problems you find. Matter of fact assemble a team Comprise it of members from each order. But have the beacon be of high enough standing to be his tutor in the arcane. This will be your first assignment as mission leader. Responded Avostad , as he turned to leave he added , Do well and safe travels Kyra.

Corllion was passed out across his cot within seconds of retuning to his room once his ceremony of vows was complete. Six days without moving a muscle or speaking a word had taken its toll on him. He was tired in his bones a feeling he had never experienced before in his old life within the walls of the castle.

A rapt knock on the door was all the warning he had, a striking female elf open the door and strod in and took up a position standing at the foot of his bed.

Kyra looked upon Corllion for the first time, she was not present for his vows so she hadn't see what metal and physical fortitude he had displayed over the six days.

She watched him as he slept, when he didn't stir at the small sounds she was making with her boot, she felt her work was going to be cut out for her. Such sound sleeper he definitely need work on minding his surroundings. She walked over to the forge and grabbed up a iron rod, a good proding would wake him up, as she went to tap him on the shoulder the air grew thick and trying to get even an inch closer than a half hand and she with all her strength couldn't budge it anymore, and further more she could not retract her strike. It was as if some disembodied hand had a steel vise like grip on the end of the rod. As she looked past the iron rod, Kyra saw that Corllion had opened his right eye and was looking at her.

With much effort he rolled to his side and asked , who are you why are you standing over me? and apparently attempting to strike me while I was sleeping.

Kyra was stunned for just a moment, his mannerisms and speech, told her he was no commoner, he had education, this told her much, and made her start to rethink her first thoughts about him. From such few words, she knew he had most likely had some form of training, so there was a unknown to her event on why he was so dead to the world asleep. Yet had the presence of mind to cast a powerful protective shield spell before passing out across his bed the way he did. But his disheveled appearance, said he walked in and went to sleep straight away not taking time to secure his door , so he didn't prepare the speed on the spot , witch also told her he cast it earlier and the trigger was when he fell asleep or lost consciousness. A very careful and well Disciplined, person did these things not a untrained young that just had potential. Where did this boy come from I wonder? Kyra asked her self while still having yet to answer the questions asked by Corllion.

I'm first sword Kyra, I've been tasked to evaluate you and fix any issues I find, but since I leave on the morrow for a tasking, you will accompany me and the others. Pack your gear we will be away from the guild house for many months or more if we are successful in our endeavors.

A rush and surge of excitement coursed through his body. A tasking ! In the road adventuring as he had always wished and dreamed of for his entire life , and on his second day he was being sent out. Maybe not alone maybe as a student with a experienced master , with the title first sword. Corllion felt he would pass out again from sheer excitement.

Far away in a distance land, in a old decaying holdfast, a burned out castle, a monster sits on the edge of a broken parapet. His gaze is to the east. Gorath sits and watches the sun rise, the pain that floods through his body is the most exquisite type of pain he has ever known. Far worse than anything they did to break him and his spirit before the turned him. Far more pain than he's felt ever since that horrible day. He welcomes the pain each morning, only to have it drive him into the shadows.

Once inside hidden from the dawn and it's cleansing pain, a spider crawls across the floor and up Goraths leg, it does not stop until it's at his right ear. The spider has relayed a message.

That old fool my brother, he thinks he can create me all over again ? Just to put an end to me! It's his doing why I'm like this in the first place. Gorath ranted. He knew I was not ready for this tasking! He screamed into the dark. Even if it was my heart's desire, he should have tempered me with that wisdom everyone says he's so famous for. Gorath said to no one in particular. His rage took over and he destroy the fire scorched and rotted furniture all about the crumbing hall. He screamed long into the night, when the hunger finally took hold and he sought out his first victim of the night, to relieve his hungry but to also help spend his rage at Avostad!
