When Rory entered, he seemed different from his usual composed self.
He bowed to the two individuals in the hall and immediately knelt on the ground.
"Father, someone from Revelation Temple informed me that Bailey has been poisoned in the cell. Her food contained a significant amount of Othalda, a lethal orchid. She has fainted and is unresponsive. Without an antidote, she may not survive the night!"
"What?" Emperor Zachary's face turned cold in an instant
An unknown poisoner targeted the esteemed queen consort of King Rory. Who could harbor such intentions of killing her at this crucial moment?
Rory intended to remind, "Father, this Othalda should be a poison from Ufrurg. No one in our kingdom possesses the knowledge to handle such a poison!"
This reminder only served to enrage the Emperor further. Ufrurg, once again!
"This is an intolerable offense!" He threw the freshly signed decree to the ground, frightening Prince Aron, who hastily begged for forgiveness. "It was my negligence, allowing someone with malicious intent to infiltrate the prison and administer the poison. I will thoroughly investigate this matter!"
Before Rory's arrival, he had contemplated various possible outcomes, but he never expected that Bailey would fall victim to poisoning!
The unfolding events had taken a completely unforeseen turn. Unanswered questions lingered, and Bailey must not meet her end so easily!
He solemnly prostrated before Emperor Zachary and said, "Father, the queen consort has always been of fragile health. Now, she has endured torture, and coupled with this lethal attack, her chances of survival are minimal. I implore you, allow me to meet Consort Jade!"
"Only she hails from Ufrurg and holds the key to saving the queen consort!"
Emperor Zachary swiftly commanded, "Summon Consort Jade immediately."
At that moment, Prince Aron involuntarily perspired, a thin layer of sweat forming on his forehead.
Emperor Zachary's gaze fixed upon him, his expression turning grave. "What is this about the queen consort being tortured, as Rory mentioned?"
"I... I merely instructed my subordinates to question her thoroughly. I never expected them to misunderstand and believe that the queen consort refused to confess, leading to
" Leading to extracting a false confession through torture?
Prince Aron trembled as he knelt on the ground. He never anticipated the situation to escalate to this degree! Once someone entered Revelation Temple, guilt was often presumed. How could these noble figures endure torture? Fear compelled them to confess to anything
Bailey, however, proved to be a formidable opponent. No matter how severely she was beaten, her stance remained unyielding
Now that an unfortunate incident had occurred within Prince Aron's jurisdiction, he would face insurmountable consequences should her life be lost!
Soon, footsteps echoed outside the door.
Consort Jade entered the grand hall, accompanied by palace attendants. Her eyes were swollen, clearly indicating she had shed tears earlier.
"Your Majesty, I have been falsely accused!"
The Emperor frowned. "What injustice are you proclaiming? I haven't even questioned you yet!"
Consort Jade struggled to hold back her tears. Her captivating eyes shimmered with unshed moisture, evoking an overwhelming sense of empathy.
"Indeed, Othalda originates from Ufrurg. However, I have had little interaction with Ufrurg during my many years in the palace. There is no way this poison could have come from my hands! Your Majesty, every word I speak is truel"
Rory explained, "Consort Jade, please don't panic. I have come to see you not to suspect you of poisoning the queen consort but rather because this poison has no antidote and is extremely dangerous. As you hail from Ufrurg, I wonder if you know of any antidote?"
"It wasn't me who poisoned her, so how could I know of any antidote?" Consort, Jade retorted.
Rory looked at her meaningfully and said, "I remember hearing about the Othalda not long ago. During Princess Aimee's stay in my residence, she..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Consort Jade interrupted, saying, "Wait!"
She was genuinely afraid that Rory would bring up the incident of Aimee poisoning Bailey again. Through gritted teeth, she continued, "I remember when Princess Aimee turned sixteen, envoys from Ufrurg specially brought several pills, claiming they could cure all kinds of poisons. I hoped these pills could alleviate the toxicity for the queen consort."
Consort Jade sneakily glanced at the Emperor's expression. She had heard Aimee sobbing about the incident involving a maid drowning in the water. The memory still haunts her to this day.
If Rory were to tell Emperor Zachary, there would be suspicions that Bailey was poisoned because of their past conflicts. Aimee Intended to seek revenge on her, which would explain why she secretly poisoned her!
This situation was hard to explain clearly!
The previous mald had indeed been poisoned with Othalda, and Consort Jade was the only one hailing from Ufrurg who could possess such a polson. She realized she couldn't find any excuse to deny it. Upon thinking about it, she would instead produce an antidote to save Bailey's life.
If Bailey died, Aimee would undoubtedly be the first suspect!
Emperor Zachary's gaze sharpened as he looked at Consort Jade, leaving her in fear. She quickly said, "I will return and retrieve it immediately to save the queen consort's life."
Rory nodded and said, "Thank you, Consort Jade."
With the Emperor's silent approval, Rory accompanied Consort Jade to retrieve the antidote.
When Consort Jade handed him the items, she gritted her teeth and angrily said, "You promise Aimee not to bring up this matter, my lord! And yet, today, you brought up past events before the Emperor! If not for my quick response, the blame for poisoning would have fallen on the princess."
Rory looked innocent and said, "I spoke out of haste. My apologies."
Consort Jade snorted coldly, "It's really strange. Aren't you always annoyed by Bailey? Why are you running around anxiously when she's in trouble?"
Rory calmly responded, "Consort Jade, I implore you to refrain from making such remarks in public."
Bailey was brought back to the palace, and the imperial physicians sighed repeatedly. They dared not prescribe any medicine and could only watch her take her last breath.
When Vic came to check her pulse, he was taken aback. Her pulse was in disorder, and besides the Othalda poison, her body seemed to accumulate toxins. Every time she got angry, she would frequently faint.
The king always accused her of feigning illness. Even Vic had thought so. It seems they have misunderstood Bailey all along!
When Rory returned with the medicine, he found Meghan and Chloe kneeling at the doorstep, their eyes red from crying. It appeared as if Bailey had already breathed her last!
He expressed his displeasure, saying, "Why are you crying? She won't die that easily!"
