"Your Majesty, are you joking?" She calmly locked eyes with him. "I have grown up under the watchful eyes of countless people. I possess no skill for changing my identity."
"If you were her, there is only one possibility. You've been playing the fool all these years. Only when pushed to your limits, would you reveal your true cunning nature."
Bailey did not offer excessive explanations. She had to plan carefully, for if the king suddenly discovered the switch of bodies within her, it would surely cause a major scandal.
Rory asked, "Where did you get Othalda?"
"Perhaps I found it in the royal residence."
"Bailey! Are you toying with me?"
"It's likely that Aimee accidentally left some medicine behind during her last visit. I noticed and kept it, never expecting it to become useful so soon!"
With a cold sneer, she continued, "Manipulating you, Your Majesty, is truly simple. Otherwise, how could Brenna's childish tricks keep you so captivated?"
Rory's expression turned grim. "Shut up!"
This woman had managed to survive but showed no signs of restraint.
Bailey couldn't be bothered to argue with him and instructed Meghan, "I'm hungry. Go to the kitchen and fetch me something to eat."
Soon, a table filled with snacks and meals was prepared. Just as Bailey sat down, Chloe said, "Your Highness, the concubine wishes to visit you."
Without hesitation, she declined. "Crocodile tears won't sway me. I have no time for her today. Tell her to roll as far away as possible!"
Rory frowned disapprovingly. "Brenna is concerned about you and came to visit. Is that how you speak of her?"
"She cares about me?" Bailey found it absolutely laughable.
She took a few bites of the food and expressed her satisfaction. "I have just awakened, and if I were to see her , my appetite would vanish. Not only would I be unable to eat, but I would also feel nauseous. That would undoubtedly put me in a foul mood, and if I were to do something out of line, Your Majesty, please don't blame me."
"Bailey!" Rory glared at her through gritted teeth. Ignoring his gaze, she delightedly continued to relish the feast before her.
Rory was enraged, and he stormed off to seek solace with his beloved.
Brenna was deeply unsettled when she saw Rory emerge from inside, but she concealed her emotions and instead put on a pitiful demeanor. "Your Majesty, have you come to visit the queen consort as well? I hope I'm not intruding upon you and the queen consort."
Rory's anger dissipated instantly, replaced by tender eyes as he looked at her. "How could that be? The queen consort hasn't fully recovered yet and needs more rest. Let's go. I happen to be returning to take some rest."
"Who would be so heartless as to poison the queen consort so severely? It terrifies me. I can't sleep at night."
"There's no need to worry. Let's go."
Brenna concealed the fleeting displeasure in her eyes. While Bailey's attitude towards her worsened, Rory was incredibly lenient with that despicable woman!
If this continued, wouldn't that woman triumph over her?
Clenching her fists tightly, Brenna vowed to make Bailey suffer in the days to come.
Rory faintly heard Bailey instructing the maidservants to prepare some dishes. Little did he expect Bailey could be so carefree after her near-death experience. Her previous act of feigning ignorance had left Rory with many doubts.
Why did Bailey pursue him so desperately in the beginning, using all sorts of schemes to marry him? Was it genuine love or just a strategy to escape from the Noel family?
If it was love, why did Bailey's eyes hold no trace of affection when she looked at him? If it was an escape plan, why choose him?
Now, whenever they were alone together, Bailey regarded him with wariness, keeping her distance.
After Bailey had eaten her fill, Vic personally brought the medicine. She felt embarrassed and said, "Teacher, thank you so much."
"It's my duty, no need to be polite. When you were unconscious, Kelsey was taken away for further questioning. No matter what, she refused to admit framing you. Rather, she chose to hit her head on a pillar, taking her own life."
