Chapter 14 - Imprisoned

"Nonsense!" Bailey looked at the person kneeling on the ground calmly.

Kelsey had witnessed the healing effects, but now she didn't mention the details, only claiming that Bailey's strong treatment had resulted in death!

The governor slammed the table and declared, "My name is Talon Webb, the governor of this kingdom. I have questions for the queen consort and hope she won't conceal anything."

Bailey glanced at Kelsey, who was covering her face and shedding tears, and said, "Go ahead and ask."

"Kelsey's father had an incurable disease, and her family intended to seek help from a spiritualist. However, Bailey intervened and insisted on medically treating Kelsey's father. Is this true?"

"Yes."

"After an autopsy, needle marks were discovered on the old man's body. Placing needles in that area can cause significant harm to the liver and gallbladder, even leading to immediate fatality. Can you be held accountable for this?"

Bailey's cold smirk played on her lips as she retorted, "Absolutely not. The points where I administer the needles are exclusively on the arms, whereas the specific location you mentioned is said to be situated seven inches below the navel. I have never made contact with that region. My maid, Chloe, can vouch for me. She always accompaniès me during consultations, and Kelsey should be well aware of it."

Kelsey hastily explained, "Every time the queen consort performed her needle treatments on my father, she would remove his upper garments and apply the needles to various parts of his body, not just limited to his hands and feet. As for the specific area you mentioned, I don't know its exact location, but I remember the queen consort touching that particular spot."

The onlookers outside expressed disdain upon hearing that Bailey had undressed the elderly man completely.

It was indeed a spectacle to witness. The queen consort had already gained infamy, yet she showed no mercy towards an elderly individual. She had no sense of decency !

Bailey intently stared at Kelsey and retorted, "Initially, I had genuine intentions to assist you, but you, an ungrateful person, deliberately defamed me. Who manipulated you into doing this?"

Kelsey adamantly refused to confess.

Using deductive reasoning, Bailey ruled out the Noel family as the primary suspect. The Noel family had nothing to gain if someone truly lost their life!

Could it be... Rory?

Was he capable of tarnishing her reputation by exploiting the prestige of the royal household?

Bailey fixed a piercing gaze on Rory, visibly making him uncomfortable.

"Why are you staring at me like that?"

"Your Majesty, could this be your scheme to get rid of me?"

Rory scoffed, "I have countless methods to eliminate you if desired! I would never resort to such low tactics!"

Bailey smirked, her words carrying a deeper meaning, "Your Majesty, your reputation for favoring the concubine and disposing of your lawful wife precedes you. Just yesterday, you even threatened to teach me a lesson, and now it seems the lesson has arrived."

Rory was infuriated by her words. "You are utterly unreasonable!"

With just a few sentences, Bailey deduced that it wasn't his doing. Although Rory held no high regard for her, he had no reason to hide anything. He must be telling the truth.

Who else would want to bring calamity upon her, imprisoning her?

That was right! Aside from Ms. Mack, who else would have such idle mischief?

How dare she?

Bailey calmly responded, "Mr. Webb, I have no grievances with Kelsey and her father, Why would I harm them? Why would I carry them out if I had malicious intentions, inviting suspicion upon myself? I even had the steward burn Kelsey's indenture contract, allowing her to return home and care for her father."

Talon sighed, "Indeed, the queen consort has performed good deeds, but it doesn't guarantee that someone else didn't orchestrate these acts. Where did the queen consort acquire her medical skills?"

Fortunately, she had prepared for this!

While Rory would not come to her defense, she was still the queen consort. If something were to happen, the reputation of King Rory would not remain untarnished.

With boldness, she spoke up, "Since childhood, I've been fascinated by the field of medicine. I've read many medical books, and when I entered the palace, I had the privilege of apprenticing under Dr. Odom. If you doubt my abilities, feel free to summon Dr. Odom and ask for his opinion."

Rory gave her a complicated look and instructed his entourage to fetch Vic.

Talon had heard of Vic, the talented son of a renowned late doctor. Despite his young age, Vic possessed exceptional medical skills. He had even assisted the authorities in solving several challenging cases.

As soon as the person arrived, Talon politely inquired, "Did the royal consort study under your guidance?"

"Yes," replied Vic. "Since her arrival in the palace, the royal consort has been diligently learning medicine under my tutelage. She's a hardworking and dedicated student."

"In your expert opinion, is it possible for the palace to make errors in selecting treatment methods?"

Vic shook his head confidently, "No, it's highly unlikely."

Just as Talon was about to say something, a man's voice could be heard from outside.

"Based solely on Dr. Odom's testimony, it may not be enough to prove whether the queen consort is a capable physician or a cause of death"

The voice had a deep and authoritative tone.

Bailey's right eyelid twitched, wondering who this person is?

When she looked up, she saw a man of mature years with striking features. His eyes were like those of a predator fixated on its prey, giving off an intimidating aura.

She noticed the distinctive belt embroidered with intricate designs adorning his waist. This man was undoubtedly of noble lineage.

Rory, with his entourage, respectfully greeted the man.

"Greetings, Uncle Aron!" they said in unison.

It turned out that Prince Aron, the ruler's younger brother, had arrived!

Bailey felt mixed emotions, wondering why she was dragged into this situation.

She joined in with a respectful greeting, "Greetings, Uncle Aron."

To her surprise, Prince Aron responded with a disdainful snort,

"Queen consort, your lack of medical expertise has already resulted in death. The people have numerous complaints. Do you understand the gravity of your actions?"

"Bailey's treatment methods were logical and reasonable. Someone must have manipulated the situation to cause the man's death. Someone is plotting to frame her. I implore Prince Aron to stand up for her!"

However, Prince Aron remained unmoved. "Even if you have studied medicine under Dr. Odom, you have yet to diagnose patients independently. Moreover, Dr. Odom is a servant in King Rory's household, so it's natural for him to show bias. What if he intentionally wants to protect you?"

Prince Aron then turned his attention to Kelsey and asked, "Besides the queen consort, has anyone else been near your father?"

"No."

"Have you had any conflicts with anyone?"

Kelsey shook her head repeatedly. "As a powerless servant, I've always kept a low profile. I wouldn't dare to offend anyone."

Prince Aron's eyes brimmed with mockery. "Rory, the emperor, has recently expressed his anger toward the abuses of the privileged class. As a prince and king, you must not defy the law!"

Bailey frowned, once again puzzled by the identity of her enemy who harbored such deep hatred towards her, going so far as to frame her at this critical time.

It seemed that this matter would not be resolved quickly. Wearing a troubled expression, Rory replied, "I understand, Uncle Aron. I won't."

Bailey furrowed her brows as she heard the declaration, "Now that it has been determined that the queen consort is the prime suspect, I shall take her to the Revelation Temple for interrogation!"

Bailey, also known as Noel, felt a crease on her forehead. The Revelation Temple was explicitly used to detain high- ranking officials and their families. It was known to be personally interrogated by Prince Aron. Although she had never been there, she couldn't help but fear the Revelation Temple. Once inside, even if she didn't die, she would be severely punished.

Rory frowned at her and suddenly said, "Uncle Aron, Bailey is indeed the prime suspect in this matter, but she's not foolish. If a patient died under her care, she would be the prime suspect, but ordinary doctors would never do such a thing!"

Prince Aron replied with disdain, "Rory, the queen consort has committed many absurd acts in the past that ordinary people would not dare to do! You were also a victim. How did you suddenly forget everything?"

These words exposed Bailey's lack of intelligence to everyone, suggesting that she could bring harm to someone resulting in their death.

Bailey didn't get angry but instead smiled, continuing his words, "Uncle Aron, it's true that I have been reckless in my actions, and I might have offended many people. It's also no secret that I have treated the elderly. Many people in the palace and the Noel family know about it. Perhaps someone with ill intentions is targeting me and using this opportunity to frame me!"

Prince Aron sneered and said, "The truth will be revealed through the investigation. According to the rules, you must go to the Revelation Temple, even if you refuse. Take the queen consort with us!"

As he finished speaking, two guards approached and escorted Bailey.

No one could interfere with Prince Aron's authorized investigation into the suspected murder involving members of the royal family.

Rory saw that she was about to be taken away and suddenly spoke, "Bailey, if you have done something, admit it. If you haven't, speak the truth. Prince Aron is not a person who cannot distinguish between right and wrong. If you are innocent, he will not falsely accuse you!"

Bailey understood the meaning behind his words. He reminded her she must not falsely confess, even under severe torture!

If she were found guilty, the entire palace would suffer. Soon, Bailey was taken away by the guards.

After they left, Talon apologized with a smile to Rory, saying, "Your Majesty, this case has been handed over to the Revelation Temple, so I no longer have jurisdiction over it. I will take Kelsey and leave."

Suddenly, a thought occurred to Rory, and he said, "Wait, leave Kelsey here."
