Chereads / Tower of Babel: The Savior / Chapter 5 - Kaytlyn

Chapter 5 - Kaytlyn

Kaytlyn comes from the legendary Sin Hunter family, a bloodline known for saving the city on numerous occasions during times of great danger. The Sin Hunter family's reputation as a formidable force was immense, but by this day, only a single successor remains to carry on the family name and legacy. Kaytlyn stood up slowly, not giving a second thought to school, only caring about getting home and taking a shower to wash off the sweat and fatigue of her training.

Kaytlyn is not a model student who loves attending school. Her "student" status is simply a tool she uses to preserve her humanity and prevent herself from losing control over her emotions.

She sat in the bus, quickly arriving home to an elegant and independent villa that had survived many years of destruction.

It is a prosperous border city, yet rumors of ghosts filled the area. It had been a while since anyone had seen neighbors wander on the surrounding streets. The ground was covered with cracks.

Kaytlyn sighed as she remembered the good old days when her large family and numerous servants lived in this house.

Unfortunately, all the family members have now died in their battles with the cultists, and the servants have left of their own accord by Kaytlyn's choice.

Aside from Kaytlyn herself, the only one left in the house was Butler Hosing.

Kaytlyn, exhausted after this rigorous training, opened the main door of the villa to find a wide hall inside. The white ground was clean, and the dark red walls had been refurbished to look classically dignified.

Hosing bowed his head slightly in respect, his frowning expression showing concern.

"Miss, there are some words that even I am not sure how to say and should not speak. You are the glorious Hunter, the Family's final hope," he started. "Even if you quit this role, no one will blame you," he said.

Hosing's expression showed sympathy for Kaytlyn's struggle. "You're still just a girl who has just grown up, and the burden of responsibility is too heavy. Even leaving this city could make it easier for you to live comfortably."

Kaytlyn stood silently, looking at Hosing with respect. She had always considered him her last family member, someone who deeply cared for her wellbeing. Despite everything, Kaytlyn was resolute. "I can't just give up everything... I don't want to do that" she whispered, her determined expression belying her exhaustion.

Kaytlyn's expression was one of resoluteness as she spoke softly.

"Hosing, I appreciate that you care about me" she began.

"But you must realize that I am the Family's last hope" she said with a firm gaze. "If I were to leave, I would be like a bereaved dog - hungry for life and afraid of death, the same with a normal person who has settled down and started a family. I don't want that for myself" she stated.

"This is my responsibility..."

Then, Kaytlyn thought back to the Tower of Babel....

'I cannot refuse this chance'

'Our future has more opportunities...'

'The glory of Hunter... must not be refused.'

Hosing, his eyes filled with respect, took a deep breath. He understood that Kaytlyn is now a worthy Hunter.

"I shouldn't have questioned your resolve" he apologized before bowing and leaving.

Kaytlyn stared at the empty villa, sighing. She was exhausted, her determination was being chipped away at bit by bit. "I cannot fall..." she whispered to herself, reminding herself of her obligations while steeling her resolve.

The girl entered the spacious bathroom and slowly removed her black stockings. Then, she slowly undressed the rest of her clothes.

Kaytlyn sank into the bathtub and took a deep breath as the hot water soothed her tired body and mind. The mental exhaustion was the greatest offender here.

Her body was not feeling as exhausted, as she could tell she wasn't "guilty" in that regard.

"I don't know when it began" she said, "but only here can I feel true relief."

"What exactly is the Tower of Babel?" the girl pondered as she slowly submerged her head in the bathwater.

"What kind of being is the 'Master' who is the Savior of the Tower of Babel in the end?" she asked herself.

"Does he exist to save the world? Or does he exist to dominate and even destroy it?" Kaytlyn's thoughts were running wild in the bath, her head still submerged.

"If he is, he must be a god..." she muttered, her voice barely audible.

In the library, Aoi leaned against a shelf, one hand resting on his chin and the other holding his cell phone.

"Next" he said, "we need to focus on basic construction."

He already knew what was needed for step one, as well as the next step. The first step... was to build the "Healing Fountain," a structure used to recover damage and Mood.

"As I mentioned previously, controlling Mood and Loyalty is very important," he said. Once your Core Operator lost both, it's game over, so focus on them.

With Aoi's 90 Source Force points, he decides to spend 30 of them to create the first base structure.

Healing Spring (Female only)

Well, even if you're raising pigs, you need to separate males and females to raise them properly

So, many of the basic construction projects in the Tower of Babel are divided into three different categories: Female Only, Male Only, and Neither male nor female.

Even though it may seem like an excessive and unnecessary detail, Aoi explains further, there are some Non-Human Race Operators that fully belong to the "Neither Male nor Female" categorization.

Furthermore, due to this Non-Human Race Operator presence, many of the Tower of Babel's construction projects cannot be specifically designated as Male Only, Female Only, and Neither Male nor Female. This is due to the potential consequences of excluding Non-Human Race Operators, as "Racism" and "Humanism" can have a drastic impact on the Mood and Loyalty of the Non-Human Race Operators.

"Although it sounds even more bizarre" Aoi laughs "it is in fact true that the Core Operators may seem troublesome. I've even witnessed an Operator go from a Mood level of 10 to 0 because of a case of 'Lovelorn'".

So you see, even though they are a critical component of the mission, Core Operators can still be fickle and need to be handled with care.

Click on "Building List" and locate "Healing Spring (Female only)." Then select "Create" to begin building your first structure.

With the scene shift, vibrant colors catches your attention on a pixelated island. A tower stretches its height above, a mysterious sight within the digital landscape. The air is filled with a sense of wonder and curiosity, as the pixel art creates a nostalgic atmosphere. This is the Tower of Babel.... An image of a healing fountain appears in the middle of the island, emitting soothing water. The Healing Fountain can help restore Mood and repair your body, but consuming mineral water does require Source Force Points.

Aoi understands the importance of keeping the Core Operators Mood and Loyalty.

He notes that taking on serious injuries will definitely negatively impact their Mood and Loyalty, even though minor injuries can be handled by the Operator themselve.

Aoi took a close look at Nightblade's stats again. Because of the Simulation Training, "Nightblade" Technique has +5 attributes, but Mood and Loyalty declined to 2 and 3.

Aoi paused and considered whether to have Nightblade brew the Healing Spring immediately.

As a result, there was still some leeway before her Loyalty and Mood hit rock bottom at 0. "We should arrange some more work for her," he decided, "then finally treat her with a hot spring bath. That way we can maximize her income!"

Without wasting any time, Aoi opened his "Weekly Quest" menu on Tower of Babel. As he knew, there were only Weekly Quests as real combat options within the game, with the only training options being daily quests. Something about this situation felt strange to Aoi, as if there wasn't much variety in the game. So the real combat experience for the Operator team was limited.

Next, Aoi selected the "Real Combat Mission" option for "Nightblade." This would give them a better return in exchange for their time. "Simulation, real combat, simulation..." Aoi repeated in his head.

After soaking for some time, Kaytlyn suddenly became unable to move freely in the bathtub. Despite her lingering sense of surprise, she no longer felt fear, and wondered if all of this was the work of the Savior. She stood up from the bathtub, completely unfazed.

"Is it the Savior...?" she asked herself as she began toweling off, calmly putting her clothes back on, then finally picking up her black cross necklace and walking out of the house with a composed and determined expression.

Kaytlyn was in a bad mood. In addition, it seemed like she had also put her underwear on backwards...

Standing outside the door to water the flower garden, Hosing saw Kaytlyn walk out of the house. He was utterly confused about exactly where the young woman wanted to go. He called out, "Miss?"

Kaytlyn remained quiet, as her body moved on its own.

At this point, Kaytlyn's heart was filled with confusion and uncertainty.

I...

In the end, she was unsure where exactly she wanted to go.
