CHAPTER SEVEN
Bethany and her mother waited patiently as the receptionist answered the phone call.
"Ma'am, I'm afraid there are no more free halls for you to rent." The receptionist finally announced.
"What? What are you saying? We called earlier and you said that there was a free hall and asked us to come down here."
The receptionist sighed. She hated being stuck in difficult situations like this.
"Yes ma'am. Well before you got her someone else had already booked that hall and there's nothing I can do."
Bethany looked at her mum, offended and moved closer to the table.
"Well you can't do that, can you? I mean I showed interest first!" She was raising her voice now.
"I can, ma'am. As long as you made no payments for the hall, I am allowed to give it out. "
Bethany sighed in frustration. First, she saw that leech called Carl and now, her hall had been taken away from her. What else could possibly go wrong?
Her mother dragged her away from the table so that the receptionist could attend to the man who had been casting her and Bethany dirty looks.
They sat down on one of the couches in silence.
"What are we going to do now? Maybe we should check out another hotel. I'm sure they'll have -"
"Oh shut up, mum. Just shut it. It's all your fault. If you had just given me the money when I asked for it, we wouldn't be stuck in this situation."
Her mum was speechless and fumbled over her words.
"I'm sorry. I just -"
She didn't get to finish her sentence because Bethany stood up and walked back to the receptionist's table.
"You'll have to listen to me. I came all the way to your hotel because I wanted your halls. I already told all my friends that I was going to be hosting my party here! I can't change plans all of a sudden. Do you have any idea how embarrassing that is?"
The receptionist really didn't have the time to deal with Bethany. She had been given an order and there was nothing she could do to change the situation so she tried her best to maintain her calm .
"Ma'am, I'm sorry but there's not-"
"Five hundred dollars. I'll make it a thousand even if I can get the hall."
She hated it when rich people flashed their money around and acted like they owned the world just because they had money.
"Please take back your money. I don't need you but I need you to understand that there's nothing I can do. Please leave the line before I call security."
That made Beth so angry and she slapped the receptionist, hard across the face.
By this time, everyone had gathered around and was watching the drama unfold. The receptionist shouted for the security to come and take Beth and her mother out of the building.
"No! I will not leave. I came here to get a hall and I'm not going to leave here until I do so. How dare you ask for me to be thrown out? Do you know who I am?"
"Ma'am, please leave the building or you'll be carried out." The security said nicely.
"I am not going anywhere. I'll kill you!" Bethany tried to attack the receptionist again and the security guard carried her out.
She was kicking and hurting him as everyone watched her being taken out. Some people even videoed it. Her and her mother were banned from coming back to the hotel because she had threatened one of their staff.
After Bethany finished making a fool of herself for some minutes more, she finally left the premises with her mother.
Carl watched everything that had unfolded from his iPad. He couldn't believe he had been married to such an uncouth woman. He was so glad his eyes were opened. This was just the first of what he was going to do to her. No, this was just the tip of the iceberg.
He handed the iPad back to Roger when he saw them leave.
"Sir, why did you let that woman speak to you in such a manner? You could have called security on your own."
Carl smiled. It wasn't that easy..
"I wish it were that simple, Roger. I'm not ready yet, I'm not ready for everyone to know who I am. Let's give it some time I need to get settled in and be sure of who I am. Then, I'll make an appearance."
"Well, I'd suggest you do so before your father gets back. When he does, he would want to introduce his son to the world and you can only hold him out for so long. Your father, he is very excited to have you back and he wants to show you off. You are his greatest win. You look just like your mother."
Now that Roger mentioned his mother, he remembered something he had been meaning to ask.
"Roger, do you have a picture of her? Can you tell me anything about my mother?"
"She was my friend before she married your father. She had gone to visit me someday and that was when your father saw her. He fell in love instantly and married her. Your mother was a special woman and she loved everyone. One of the people that were too good for this world."
Carl felt bad that he never got to meet her. He never really had the motherly love he'd always craved except from Sister Anne.
"I'd like to know where she was buried, so I can go pay her a visit and bring her some flowers. I'd be stepping out now, Roger. I won't be long. "
Roger suddenly remembered what Mr Stewart had asked him to give to Carl.
"Also, young master, your father has asked me to give you this card. It's a Black card which means there's no limit to the amount of money in it. You can spend as much as you want to."
Carl stared at the card and took it with shaky hands. How was he going to spend so much money?
