Chereads / The Echo of My Soul / Chapter 17 - Granny

Chapter 17 - Granny

"Hohohoho."

Granny adjusted her mask on her face, her eyes staring at me without blinking, making me fidget nervously. Apparently finding that amusing, she chuckled more, her white teeth baring at me.

Now that I thought about it, she was truly a very young 'grandma', or at least, that was her appearance. As for anything else, she was the shrewdest, the harshest, and the most brilliant.

Who was she? I remember wondering about that a lot when I was younger.

This wonder started to intensify after seeing her here. So many things started to happen to me within the span of a week. Making me unable to think Once more, I felt myself failing to connect any dots together anymore.

Everything happening was getting a bit too much for a mere 'coincidence'.

At least, I didn't need to ask for Chris' help in the end. No more favors owed to him. But what about granny?

She hadn't contacted us for a long three years, no matter what kind of scandals we almost got into, she stayed out of it.

Just like how I asked her to do.

Morning sleepyhead, that's true. It's your fault.

Mhmmm…

Alice had asked granny to stop 'meddling in our life' when she got together with Marcos. Granny was experienced, there was no doubt that she knew Marcos' real personality.

But Alice was unwilling to listen.

I also hold some blame for this.

I couldn't stop that because Alice's control over me was stronger than I thought, and so, I just went along with that stupidity.

Despite always feeling Marcos' flickering behavior, I could only occasionally try to warn Alice, but my attitude made it as if I was only taunting her.

I let out a soft sigh, causing granny to stop laughing and gaze at me silently. At the same time, Alice tried to joke with me to lighten my mood.

Wasn't that some cultivation novel's plot…?

Ah. Alice, nice development, yes? We are apparently getting more of our life resembling some movies, so fun.

I almost laughed but that would've looked weird, so I concealed it and only listened to what Alice had to add,

The old woman who appeared in front of us will solve all of our problems. Is it okay to consider it that way?

Well. She was not that wrong. Except us already knowing the old woman and me doubting any help we may get.

Will she help us, though? After the way you acted towards her years ago when you were supposed to thank her for her help?

I chuckled internally before slapping her with the facts.

Alice fell silent, making me shake my head in amusement. In any case, just to save our sanity, let's think in that way.

One more 'problem' and I'll resign from this life, and I'm not even joking.

Ayo. Just what happened while I was asleep?

A Diva tried to kill us, nothing much at all.

Dropping the bomb like that, I ignored Alice's hectic questions and inquiries. I myself was completely confused about everything happening, how would I even comfort her or explain anything to her?

I leaned back on the seat and opened my eyes slowly. After a while, my gaze met Granny's. We looked at each other and then I half jokingly said, "Granny, are you a devil? You came just as I thought about you."

Was that a good or a bad idea? I was unsure. Maybe I just missed her a bit too much, even bickering with her would be more fun than anything.

Granny grinned, her wrinkle deepening. I thought she may be angry as I saw her raising her hand, so I prepared myself for a slap.

But instead, she flicked my forehead and softly chided me.

"Hoh. Little girl, you became quite amusing again. Where is my discipline to you?"

"Err…"

I truly was flabbergasted, she used to be a bit more stricter. What was happening with this gentleness? I held my forehead and nodded shyly, trying to hide my red face.

That made me so flustered.

"Don't be so afraid. I didn't come here to scold you or anything, I know what happened to you," She gently patted my shoulder and added, "Hearing about it, I pondered for a long time before finally coming to a decision."

"Decision?"

I thought she was going to hug me, but she shook her head and made me sit down again. She grabbed a bag next to her before giving it to me.

I took the bag and looked inside it. There was a shawl alongside a headphone, I subconsciously understood what she wanted me to do and put them on.

While doing that, my gaze landed on the microphone.

Without a wait, Alice took over and hugged the microphone.

"Hahaha, I see your love for that device has never changed. Go ahead, sweetheart. You have your audience waiting for you."

"Yes!"

Alice was too happy to finally be able to sing again. In my opinion, that would be stupid. But for her, I'm sure this was a release.

Just like how I was itchy to act. I wonder if Chris settled everything with Auteur Diam…

Leaving me aside, Alice opened the phone and Tissok, she smiled broadly despite how clearly tired and sickly she was.

The face reflected on the camera lens didn't give any of that, though.

"Hello everybody! Today I'm going to sing you a song that I already announced its release date, hehe consider it as some promotional performance!"

Although most fans hated those things, Alice's fans loved her and always supported her despite how they may have not liked it.

She took a deep breath and closed her eyes, finally starting to sing,

"The clock stopped ticking, forever ago

How long have I been there? I don't know…

I can't get a grip, and am forced to let go.

Because I had nothing to hold myself through

Why can't I speak?

Why can't I breathe?

In this filthy world, why are you free?

Please, can I breathe?

Please, can I breathe?

Can you set me free?

What on earth is going on?

Can someone enlighten me please?

Why's my enemy smiling while I'm in tears?

I'm there now, I'm not,

but something isn't right!

My happiness is fading and I can never go back!

The tremendous tears are more than I can take,

When I'm up alone,

Against my echo…

The Echo..!"
