Chapter 50 [Crevasse 2: Dungeon Design (Part 1)]
"Protecting the Weak: The Dungeon's Concept"
The concept for dungeon design is undoubtedly unprecedented, yet we decided to brainstorm and turn this unprecedented dungeon into a reality.
"We're particularly relying on your opinions this time. I'm counting on you, Romulus, Remus."
*(Sighs) ×2*
Listening to their somewhat listless voices, or rather entities, we proceeded to compile necessary items.
"Firstly, we need means to protect the dungeon core. Crow's subordinates can move, so escaping from formidable enemies is possible. However, our dungeon core can't do that."
"For that, we need to consider what kind of enemies to anticipate."
Romulus and Remus spoke from the perspective of the dungeon core.
"What enemies are we expecting in that location?"
I asked, turning to Keyn and the Crevasse group for answers.
"Um, since it's a large space, wolves and birds, and there were raccoons and weasels."
"Raccoons and weasels..."
*(Raccoons and weasels...?)*
"Master, I remember... hearing that dungeon cores like magical clumps are targeted by dragons."
"Dragons? Wait, can dragons eat dungeon cores?"
"Some monsters, like dragons, prefer things with strong magical power, such as magic stones. I've heard of cases where dungeons are attacked with the aim of the dungeon core."
"Is that so? Romulus, Remus?"
"Indeed, such things happen. However, a well-developed dungeon usually comes with deep layers, so dragons usually give up before reaching them."
"Hmm. On the flip side, to protect against dragons, do we need to move the dungeon core to a deeper location?"
"Or possess the strength to repel a dragon directly."
Currently, Crevasse has only a small area where I can stay at the end of a narrow passage. The newly sprouted dungeon seed is at the end of this area. It was decided that we need to add several layers to the dungeon.
"Now, how should each layer be structured? Anyone with opinions, please speak up."
"I recommend the narrow dungeon that Crow suggested. It has a groundbreaking effect against humans. Also, since dragons are generally large, they might lose interest in trying to enter a narrow dungeon."
"My 'Quicksand Labyrinth' is too specialized and may not suit everyone's abode in Crevasse. I agree with my brother's suggestion."
Romulus's opinion received unanimous agreement, and the proposal for a narrow dungeon was approved. Well, even now, the entrance is quite narrow, so it might be effective against dragon intruders.
"Next, about the defense capabilities of the dungeon, what rank of enemies can Crevasse's group handle alone?"
"Dealing with dragons might be tough. Griffins, at least... we should be able to repel them."
"I think that's a reasonable assessment."
Impressive, Crevasse group. ...Wait, doesn't that mean they can defeat badgers instantly?
"For now... hypothetically against dragons... what additional forces should we consider?"
"In this case, adopting large monsters is impossible due to the concept of the narrow dungeon. It will likely involve magic or traps."
"The dungeon seed has just sprouted. It would be impossible to manipulate it with magic."
"In that case, traps through process of elimination."
Hmm, the discussion is progressing smoothly among the subordinates. This is going to be easy.
"What kind of traps for dragons are we talking about?"
"Yeah, I'm curious about that, too."
"Pitfalls, poison...?"
"Oh, what about those mousetraps you taught me, Master? The spring-loaded ones that snap shut. Oh, or something called a bear trap."
Wow, Keyn, what kind of things are you thinking about? That sounds interesting, though.
"... Let's discuss the armament later; it seems we won't be able to gather enough information for now."
Hypha's proposal was adopted, and we moved on to the next consideration.
