Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 : KOL Explains Supernatural(I)

Kol leaned back, his gaze fixed on Caroline with a mixture of amusement and curiosity."So, Caroline, why don't you tell me about yourself, darling?"Caroline shrugged, avoiding eye contact. "There's not much to tell. My mom's the sheriff, my dad came out as gay after 15 years of marriage, and I live in Mystic Falls. I pretty much run all the clubs and committees just to get into a good college."Kol blinked, momentarily stunned. From his other perspective—his life before this one—he had seen enough of Caroline's life to know it was hardly what he expected of someone who was now immortal. Living an eternity and still worrying about clubs and colleges? The thought baffled him."Why is he looking at me like that?" Caroline whispered to Rebekah, feeling Kol's intense stare.Rebekah smiled knowingly. "Kol's not called the wildest of us for nothing, Caroline. He lives for freedom—absolute freedom. He can't comprehend how someone with immortality can be so... mundane. His brain's probably melting right now."Kol huffed in frustration. "It's not just about being mundane, darling. It's the principle of the thing. From what little you've told me, you haven't lived a single day for yourself. Such beauty, such brilliance—you're wasting it."He grinned, leaning in closer. "As such, I've decided. I'm going to teach you how to truly live as an immortal. What do you say, darling?"Caroline blushed slightly and turned away. "No, thank you."Rebekah laughed, while Kol threw his hands up in mock exasperation. "Is that so, darling? Very well, then. Tell me how your supernatural journey began."Caroline tensed, her body freezing up as memories resurfaced. Kol noticed the shift in her expression and leaned forward, his voice dropping to a calm, compelling tone. "You are not terrified."Instantly, Caroline's tension melted away as the compulsion took hold. Kol gave her a warm smile. "Now, darling, would you prefer I remove the fear completely, or would you rather face whatever happened without any tricks?"Caroline shook her head quickly. "No, don't make me forget."Kol raised an eyebrow. "Ah, but you don't know the true beauty of compulsion yet, darling. The real magic lies in its subtlety. Right now, I've simply removed your fear. But if you let me compel you properly, I could make it so you could face your fears without losing yourself in the process. It's like holding a sword—whether to slay your enemy or simply drop it. The choice remains yours."Caroline whispered to Rebekah, "Why does he talk like he's from a different century?""Old-fashioned?" Kol gasped, dramatically placing a hand over his heart. "Darling, there is nothing old about me. I'm a prime specimen, with or without clothes. I am most definitely not old—anywhere."Caroline couldn't help but laugh at his exaggerated reaction, and Kol smiled, seeing a flicker of Rebekah's playful spirit in Caroline."So, darling," Kol continued, leaning back with a smirk. "Do you want time to think about my offer? Right now, the compulsion is simply to help you think clearly. If you want me to remove it, just say the word.""You're lucky, Caroline," Rebekah chimed in, grinning. "Not many people get my brother's attention, let alone his... favor."Caroline tilted her head, curious. "How many brothers do you have, Rebekah?"Kol cut in before Rebekah could answer. "Ah, now that, darling, is a fun question. Let me introduce the Mikaelsons. There's Finn—the boring one; Elijah—the moral, uptight one; Klaus—me, if I'd gone horribly wrong; myself, the most handsome man you'll ever meet; and Henrik—the best of us, though gone too soon. Oh, and of course, Rebekah—the harlot."Rebekah shot him a deadly glare as Caroline and she burst into laughter. Revenge was clearly on Rebekah's mind, but Kol looked delighted with himself.Kol turned his attention back to Caroline, his smile fading into something more serious. "So, darling, do you need more time, or are you ready to decide today?"Caroline took a deep breath. "Okay, Kol. Do it."Kol's grin returned, satisfied. "Good girl. Now, let me teach you why compulsion is a subtle tool."He leaned in, his voice softening as he began explaining. "Earlier, I just removed your feeling of fear—nothing more. But here's the thing, darling: fear is necessary. Only a fool would want to remove it entirely. Fear keeps you alive. The world may consider you a child, but where I come from, someone your age would already have a child of their own."He waved his hand dismissively. "Compulsion works by making your mind dissociate, depending on the wording. For example, if I had said 'you will not be terrified,' you'd still feel fear, but it wouldn't show on the outside. That's why compulsion can't be a blunt tool, darling. Fear is instinctual, and if you remove it completely, the mind will start searching for it, wearing away at the magic that holds the compulsion in place."He smiled, his eyes glinting with something dark and knowing. "So, that's the gist of it. Now, do you want to go through the process here, or somewhere more private? Bekah and I are free for the night."I am always available for conversations about the storyIf you like the story please do support me on Patpatreon.com/LUCIFER482
