Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 : Kol Teaches Supenatural(III)

"This is the knowledge you've learned so far—what magic is, where it comes from, and why it exists. Now, let's move on to the most common application of magic: spells and rituals. Magic operates through three pillars: willpower, intent, and imagination."As Kol explains, he casually draws symbols on the wall. His manner is calm and confident, though everyone in the room can feel a slight edge to his words. Klaus and Elijah enter quietly, gesturing for the women to remain silent, curious about this sudden lecture from their brother. Something is different about Kol today."Willpower," Kol continues, "is your determination for the result. How badly do you want this to happen? Intent is why you want it to happen, and this is the main component for many branches of magic. Lastly, imagination is how you want it to happen. Do you want to increase a harvest? Do you want to fly? Do you want to teleport? Whatever it is, you need to visualize the goal clearly in your mind. That's why spells and rituals often use languages and runes—they guide your intent and imagination. Willpower drives the result."Without looking, Kol casually waves his hand over the glass in front of him, chilling it instantly before taking a sip. The room watches in stunned silence, wide-eyed and slack-jawed."Ahh, that's the spot." He grins. "As you just saw, that's magic in action. Once you lose your connection to magic, it's incredibly difficult to reclaim it, like any ordinary person. But, as I've said, the soul constantly generates magic. The soul is a vessel with no limit to its capacity. That's why soul magic is rarely explored—it's delicate but vast."Kol pauses, his tone turning slightly somber. "Caroline, once, an arrogant witch—probably a Bennett—decided to prevent an apocalypse by creating a cursed mark using five hunters. She thought she could handle it all, but her arrogance blinded her. These hunters were crafted to seek out vampires like us. She even created special daggers for her plan—ingenious, really. These daggers essentially use magic to suppress magic, a form of curse magic."He takes a breath, glancing at Klaus. "As you know, curses are permanent alterations. We, vampires, are cursed. When stabbed by those daggers, we enter stasis. But, as always, there are exceptions to the rules, and Niklaus and I happen to be two of them. Nik has several curses, not just one. And because of that, he's immune to the daggers. I, on the other hand, suffer a different fate."Kol's voice lowers as he recounts his ordeal. "When the dagger strikes my heart, I'm sent to a mental plane where I feel nothing but the agony of that strike. I've been through it many times, but this last time—969 years—I've been burning with magic in my veins. The curse on me, combined with the ever-growing magic of my soul, made the pain unbearable. Nik was lucky to pull me out when he did; I was close to breaking free on my own."The room is silent, and Kol presses on, his voice steadier now. "Let's talk about the origin of vampires and how curses affect different species. What my mother did is considered dark magic—there's a difference between dark and black magic, but we'll get to that another day. In her ritual, she tied our mind, body, and soul to the concept of the sun and Yggdrasil. At the time, Yggdrasil was an ancient tree, a physical representation of the ritual."Caroline and Rebekah listen, entranced by his story, while Klaus and Elijah remain stoic but intrigued."Our souls were tied to the sun, so we can't die unless the sun is extinguished. Our minds are tied to Yggdrasil, which means we won't age, but we'll evolve—slowly, like trees. We are who we are, unchangeable unless something drastic happens. And finally, our bodies were tied to the blood of a doppelganger, which is why we crave blood for eternity."Kol looks at them all seriously. "This whole ritual was based on the number three, and as such, these elements are all interconnected—our bloodlust, our cravings, and even the infamous 'switch' come from this connection. This is why we are cursed."He pauses, a distant look in his eyes. "Nature allowed this magic because there was no balance at the time—werewolves were the dominant supernatural force. But, as a consequence, we were cursed to burn in the sunlight and be vulnerable to wood."Kol takes a breath and adds, "I was the first witch in the ritual, and as a result, I felt my metaphysical channels being shredded. Since our minds remain unchanged, I remember everything. Every agony, every curse, all amplified over the centuries. Nature believed there was no balance between the species, so it allowed Nik's existence—a son of both a wolf and a witch, transformed into a vampire."Kol's expression tightens. "Nik was meant to be something unique, but after he triggered his wolf side with his first kill, our father commanded our mother to curse him again. And she did. She tied his werewolf curse to a moonstone and used the blood of a doppelganger to create a separate entity inside him."He shakes his head. "She tried to separate man and wolf, but it wasn't that simple. She created a rift inside him—a partially broken bridge. It means he feels things but doesn't understand what or why. And as a vampire, everything he feels is amplified."The room remains quiet, heavy with the weight of Kol's words. He gives them a small, pained smile. "So, now you know. This is why we are what we are."Silence lingers for a moment until Kol turns around, expecting more questions. Instead, he's met with tearful faces—Caroline and Rebekah crying softly, while Klaus and Elijah stare at him, their eyes wet but their expressions controlled."Hey, darling, what's all this? Why the tears?" Kol stammers, looking between them. "This is just the basics, no need to get all emotional."Before he can react, Klaus and Elijah embrace him, then turn to console the women. Kol stands there, bewildered, trying to process what just happened.I am always available for conversations about the storyIf you like the story please do support me on Patpatreon.com/LUCIFER482
