The four creatures exploded with massive speed rushing towards the west side.
It's not like I was just going to stand here and watch.
I crouched down and jumped as high as I could.
The sight was a little shocking when I reached the peak of my jump.
Fire and destruction. Building that got smashed in and destroyed everywhere.
That was the sight I saw in the air.
I imagined a fire coming out of my feet, and small flames that started to get bigger and bigger appeared.
And with an explosive acceleration, I rushed towards the west. The flames worked in the same way as a rocket.
Finally, the monsters appeared in sight. A mix of wolves, centaurs, and spiders numbering around 200–300 are slowly coming closer and closer.
But they were still far away.
I landed on the wall on the west side of the kingdom, and there were already some soldiers here.
But these soldiers were not the two platoons that were sent here.
They were probably normal soldiers who had to overlook the wall.
When they saw me, they saluted.
"Prepare yourself; they are coming." I said.
He took out a binocular and looked in that direction. Immediately, he shouted,
"Man the cannons and archers, get ready!".
In an instant, people started to prepare the cannons and were taking their bows out.
"The monsters will arrive in around 5 minutes!". The soldier shouted.
The two platoons that were supposed to be here didn't appear yet, but my four dracanis arrived on the wall.
The soldiers weren't surprised by the monsters.
'Rylan Ashencroft must have used this insignia a lot'.
But I wasn't going to be a sitting duck, waiting for the monsters to arrive.
"Attack".
The dracanis rushed from the wall towards the horde of monsters.
They were fast; within 1 minute, they had already reached them.
I wanted to test how strong the dracanis was, and the result shocked me.
They tore through the monster horde with no struggle. Every monster got killed by one attack or was burned to death.
In the middle of my draconis attacking the monster horde, a person in a military uniform appeared.
He saluted,
"Sir Ashencroft, Major Clifton is at your service. Sorry for being late!".
That's when I saw the two platoons of around 100 people on the ground.
"Don't worry about it; how strong are your forces?"
"3 S-ranks, 15 A ranks, and the rest is a mix of B ranks and C ranks, sir!".
3 S-ranks?
"What is the strength of the monster horde?" I said as I pointed to the monsters that were getting killed by my Dracanis.
He took out a binocular.
"It looks like a mix of centaurs, wolves, and giant spiders, sir. So their collective strength would be around 100–200 B-rank monsters, sir.".
He was answering all my questions, so this would be the perfect time to ask about how they categorize monster strength in this world.
"Tell me about the rankings of the monsters.".
He looked a little surprised by the question, but he answered nonetheless.
"A monster's strength is categorized from F to SS, with F being the lowest and SS being the highest.".
"What about SSS rank monsters?".
"We have never seen a SSS-rank monster yet, which is why they are ranked between F and SS.".
Sh*t.
A SSS-rank monster has never appeared, but since this was a novel, I knew that a SSS-rank monster would appear at some point.
Maybe Rylan Ashencroft got killed by a SSS-rank monster.
F*ck.
"How strong are the monsters?".
"Around 1–5 of the same rank are needed to kill the monster. For example, 1–5 B-rank monster slayers are needed to kill one B-rank monster. While an A rank can easily kill a B rank monster",.
It seems that if the monster had the same rank as the monster slayer, then the monster would win.
"When you say easily, what do you mean by that?".
"Killing the monster without getting a severe injury".
Wait, that changes things a little.
"So a B-rank monster slayer that is about to become an A-rank could in theory kill one B-rank monster, right?".
He nodded his head.
"Those rankers are called peak rankers. So a B rank monster slayer that could kill a B rank monster, where he had to sacrifice a lot to kill it, will be called peak B rank monster slayer".
He paused and continued, "But their title will still be a B ranker, since we can't just send them to fight a B rank monster the same way we could with A rankers. Those peak B rankers will still have the title of B rank monster slayer.".
I see.
That makes a lot of sense to call them peak B rankers instead of an A ranker.
That way, they would not have the same responsibilities as an A-ranker. Because that B ranker could barely kill a B rank monster, while an A ranker could easily kill one.
"What if you had to fight a monster above your rank?".
He scratched his head.
"Well, you would be lucky if you survived, but if you were a peak-B ranker, then escaping from an A-rank monster would be possible.".
I see that fighting above one's rank would be impossible, and therefore the best choice is to escape.
"What if the peak ranker couldn't escape from that monster? Was it possible to injure it?".
He shook his head.
"Not unless the monster was begging for it. You would have to be extremely lucky to injure it; at that point, it would be better to run away.".
I see. I think I am starting to understand the rankings of the monsters.
Since I was a SSS-rank monster slayer, killing SS-rank monsters should be easy for me.
But that was probably based on Rylan Ashencroft's combat experience. I, on the other hand, had never fought a monster in my life.
My Dracanis returned in front of me, and as I looked at the monster horde,.
Dead, mangled, and burned monster corpses were spread around the grass and dirt.
At the same time, it raised another question for me.
"How many B-rank monsters could an S-rank kill?"
