That's not possible," says Quinn.
Jack takes his letter, ripping into little pieces and throwing it back onto the tray. He sits back into his chair, slumping almost. The groups eyes scan for reactions, but nothing. Jack taps the chair gently, smiling a little.
"What a load of shit," he continues, "Nice joke, guys."
He scans the table for a reaction, almost as if he's waiting on the punch line. The reaction is quiet, and scared faces fill the space. Mandy, unable to drop her letter, scans it repeatedly.
"None of you did this?," Jack asks.
"No," says Skyler, shaking his head.
Quinn's breath quickens. Jack grabs ahold of her hand to calm her down. She rests her head upon his shoulder, something that Skylar is still getting used to seeing. Cole bites his lip, and he flicks the letter away onto the floor, standing on it.
"Fuck you, -R" he says.
Jay fumbles the letter in his hand, he twists and turns it, almost like a detective would. His inspection of the letter leaves him with more questions than answers.
"We need to go to the police" says Mandy.
"And tell them what exactly?" He continues, "The guy we accidentally killed might be back to haunt us?"
"I'm just making a suggestion, Jack" she says.
"It's a stupid suggestion" he replies.
"Fuck you, Jack" says Mandy.
She gets up, throwing her chair under the table. Jay shoots Jack a look. He shakes his head visibly annoyed.
"I'll go," says Jay.
He stands up, following Mandy outside the hotel. Quinn's eyes burn a hole through the back of Jacks head. He shrugs it off, taking another sip of his whisky. Skyler pulls out his phone to check the time, 20:30pm. It's still so early to call it a night.
"I'm going to the toilet." Says Jack
Cole takes another sip of his vodka. He leans over into his coat pocket. He pulls out a packet of cigarettes.
"Back in a minute," he says.
Quinn shoots Skyler a double take. It's probably the first time all night he has looked at her. She smiles at him nervously. Skylar raises his glass in a toast. Quinn raises her glass in the air, making a clanging noise.
"What are we toasting to?" She asks.
"I don't know," he continues, "Maybe to new beginnings,"
Skyler places a lonely strand of hair behind Quinns ear. She grabs his hand by accident. He pulls away quickly.
"Sorry, I don't know why I done that," she says, embarrassed.
"It's fine," replies Skyler
Jay finds Mandy sitting outside on a bench. She rubs her arms, forgetting her jacket inside. Jay approaches her, and he slaps one hand off of the other. He sits beside her, spreading his arms onto the back of the bench. She looks at him, the same way she did five years ago.
"Hi," he continues, "You must be freezing. Here, take my jacket."
He places his jacket over her shoulders, rubbing her arms gently. Mandy moves closer as Jay wraps his arm around her. She rests her head onto his chest. The smell of his cologne makes her smile. He hasn't changed it, not even since school.
"You always looked out for me," she says as she moves closer.
"Always happy, too." Says Jay
Jack looks at himself in the bathroom mirror. Suddenly, his phone rings,
"Hello, Jack," he voice continues, "Welcome home."
