The subjects of the research were brought through a secret underground passage that was connected to Duke Closh's mansion.
He didn't want anyone in the Empire to find out that these subjects were connected to him.
The reason was simple.
If he sent some of them to take powerful positions in the royal administration and anyone leaked the information that these people were under him, he could get branded as a traitor just to eliminate the threat.
No one wanted to see someone getting too powerful in the empire.
Slowly, these subjects were lined up in front of Duke's room where he waited for them.
One by one, these subjects would go inside, talk to the duke, and answer his questions.
This was mainly an interview to let the Duke assess these subjects and know the results of the research. Also to let him decide where to employ them based on their abilities and interests.
