Officer Louise handcuffed Jason, patting his shoulder and said, "I'm taking you to the station. Don't give me that psychic stuff. Even if you claimed to be God, I would still arrest you. Off we go, pal, your good days are over."
"No, it's not my good days that are ending, it's Luke? Prescott's. If you arrest me, I guarantee Luke? Prescott won't survive tonight. You'll be collecting his corpse tomorrow!" Jason shook his head, raised his cuffed hands, and pointed at Luke? Prescott, "Hey, Mr. Prescott, I suggest you don't spend the night here."
Upon hearing this, Luke? Prescott shrugged, chuckled nonchalantly, and turned his gaze away from Jason. It seemed he didn't care much for what Jason had to say. The corpse had been dug up and taken to the morgue, what else could happen? The root of all problems was eliminated.
"Officer Louise, I think I have something to say-" Joseph started to speak to the officer, "I'm sorry, but I need to ask, why are you arresting him? There has to be a reason, right? A suspect?"
"Can you give me a reason not to?" Officer Louise grunted discontentedly at Joseph, "The fact that he knew where the body was buried is enough to arrest him as a suspect. Stop talking—or I'll take you in too. Back off!" She pointed at Joseph.
Jason nodded at Joseph, who raised his hands and said, "Okay, okay, I understand." He then stepped back, allowing Officer Louise to proceed.
As he was being led to the squad car, Jason said to Joseph, "You better warn your friend not to stay here tonight. Believe me." He gave a nod, then got into the car.
The police car sped off. Joseph watched the car leave, shaking his head. While it was unlikely for Jason to be charged, this was a nuisance.
Once the police car was out of sight, Joseph turned to look at Luke? Prescott and said, "Listen, Luke, you heard what Jason said. I think you should heed his warning."
"No, no, no, Joseph, it's all over." Luke? Prescott shook his head and replied, "Yes, it's all over. He helped me find the problem, and now everything has been dealt with. I know what I'm doing, okay?"
"Did you forget what happened last time when you didn't heed Jason's warning? Just one night, and you were so troubled?" Joseph shook his head, frustrated by Luke? Prescott's impromptu reneging. He wondered how he had ever become friends with this guy.
Shaking his head again, Joseph reluctantly left. He needed to find a lawyer and go to the station to get Jason out on bail. But if Jason was arrested on suspicion of murder, his chances of bail would be slim. And if there was bail, the amount may be astronomical—more than he could afford.
Still, he had to go to the station to see if he could prevent the police from arresting Jason on suspicion. As Joseph drove away, Luke? Prescott scoffed. All issues had been resolved. The body had been dug up and taken away. What else could go wrong?
He merely wanted to scare himself into giving them the rest of his money. Did he think he was a fool? Luke? Prescott was not perturbed. At that moment, the foreman came over and said to Luke? Prescott, "Sir, what should we do now?"
"Fill the hole and restore the pool to its original state. I don't care how you do it," Luke? Prescott waved dismissively and headed towards the mansion.
"Sir, we have to wait for the police to clear the area!" The foreman pointed at the police tape and shouted at Luke's retreating figure.
"That's your problem, pal. Your job is to get the police to clear out as soon as possible. We have a contract, and I am only giving you three days," Luke? Prescott replied from the living room, "If you can't fulfill the contract, then... you won't get the rest of the payment, and you'll have to compensate me."
"F**k!" The foreman flipped off Luke's retreating figure and muttered under his breath.
"I heard that! Do I need to add insult to an employer to the list of your offenses?" Luke? Prescott's voice echoed from within the mansion.
The foreman turned and walked away, cursing Luke under his breath. He regretted calling the police a bit but only thought about it. Not reporting a crime would result in a much more severe criminal penalty than being cheated out of money. Although he was disgruntled, all he could do was try his luck at the police station. Following the sound of a police siren, the vehicle came to a halt at the police station. The area was quite spacious. While the police station wasn't large, it featured a substantial parking lot and a two-story office building. When Jason was escorted out, Chief Louise was already in her office on the second floor. The office here was divided into several sections.
"Hey, buddy, you're home!" One officer led Jason into the main lobby on the first floor to process the paperwork. Another officer guided Jason to the interrogation room not far from the lobby across the hallway. He gestured for Jason to sit in a chair inside the doorway.
The interrogation room was simple, consisting of a table and two chairs placed oppositely. Jason sat down without protest or dissatisfaction and just sat there calmly. He was well-informed about American law, so he knew he wouldn't be charged as a suspect.
The officer didn't interrogate Jason but handcuffed him to the chair and walked away. Shortly after, the door opened again. The sexy female chief walked in, holding a clipboard and pen. She closed the door and sat opposite Jason.
"I told you before, we'd meet again!" Chief Louise said to Jason, frowning slightly, "I just didn't expect it so soon."
"The world is unpredictable, anything can happen, there's nothing unexpected!" Jason didn't shout or show any dissatisfaction, but instead smiled, "You can't arrest me or charge me like this."
"Why?" Chief Louise laughed sarcastically, "Right now, you're the main suspect. Even if you're innocent, you'll have to stay in custody. As for bail, it depends on the judge's decision."
"Have you forgotten about the Miranda case in 1963?" Jason smiled at her.
"Miranda case in 1963? What the hell?" Chief Louise furrowed her brows, then soon seemed to recall something. She slapped her forehead and muttered a curse, "Damn, how could I forget that? Shit — Damn —" She cursed several times.
Jason watched it all with a smile. The Miranda case in Arizona was quite famous at that time. A man named Ernesto Arturo Miranda was arrested in 1963 for allegedly robbing, kidnapping, and sexually assaulting an 18-year-old Phoenix woman. However, in the final appeal court, Miranda was acquitted because the police didn't inform him that he had the right to remain silent and to have an attorney. If he couldn't afford one, a lawyer would be provided free of charge.
This case had caused quite a stir at the time.
Clearly, the arrest of Jason was spur of the moment, so Chief Louise didn't formally warn him. Maybe she thought a Chinese didn't need to be taken too seriously.
"So... no matter what you do to me, I can overturn the prosecutor's charges in court. Of course... right now, you have no evidence to prove that I killed anyone," Jason said calmly, "But... I've already given you a warning during the day. If Luke Prescott stays in his villa tonight, he definitely won't see tomorrow's sun. That's the truth!"
"Bullshit truth!" Chief Louise, who had been holding back her anger, couldn't help but slam the table. "Don't think you can trick me with this, or divert my attention, unless you have an accomplice!"
"No, I don't have an accomplice. I've just done something similar to a medium!" Jason shrugged.
