Chapter 36 - Drawing the Sword

The nature of werewolves is to maintain enough vigilance. It's this level of alertness that has allowed Mr. Kote to survive without being discovered and ostracized. So, when he senses danger, his instinct is to seek benefits and avoid harm, or more decisively, to nip the danger in the bud.

But this time, the threat he felt wasn't something he could quietly extinguish. The greater the danger, the more mental pressure he felt. So, when he felt a significant threat, his first thought wasn't how to escape – but to see Jason.

If there was anyone in the world who could handle such a dangerous situation, it would be Jason. So he set out early and found him at Joseph's house.

"I don't know where this dangerous aura is coming from, but… I think it probably has to do with what happened last night. Luke Prescott, I heard, is dead." Mr. Kote looked at Jason, hoping to get more information from him.

"Yes, he's dead!" Jason nodded without denial.

"Why?" Mr. Kote leaned forward as if preparing to listen closely.

"Because a female corpse was dug up from under his swimming pool. Almost everyone in this town knows about it. The woman was buried deep underground, died with resentment, and was wearing a red dress. In our Chinese culture, burying the dead in bright red clothes increases their resentment and… more importantly, the water in the pool is a place that absorbs yin energy, which after death could preserve the body from decay, turning it into a vengeful spirit or a zombie. Do you understand what I'm saying?" As Jason spoke, he stuffed a piece of pizza into his mouth and laughed as he looked at them.

Joseph and Mr. Kote simultaneously shook their heads. They didn't understand the concept of a yin-gathering place or how burying in red clothes could increase resentment. All they understood was that the woman might be a vengeful spirit or a zombie. However, from the present situation, the possibility of her being a zombie seemed more significant.

But… were there really zombies in this world? The two men simultaneously looked at Jason again.

Jason shrugged and spread his hands: "Don't look at me like that. I don't have the final say; you'll only believe it when you encounter it yourselves. Just like when I told Louise the Sheriff or Mr. Prescott that he would die tonight, they always don't believe it, thinking it's nonsense."

"I believe you!"

Almost in unison, Mr. Kote and Joseph said.

Jason nodded, stuffed the last piece of pizza into his mouth, wiped his hands with a napkin, and said to them, "If you trust me, then I will give each of you a gift. Hey, Joseph, give me a pen."

"A pen? Alright, I get it!" Joseph didn't know why Jason wanted a pen, but he did not hesitate. He fetched a signing pen, "Although I don't know what you're planning to do, I choose to trust you!" He joked as he handed over the pen.

Jason did not explain further but asked them to stretch out their hands.

"I'm going to draw something in the palm of your hands," Jason said, "If you agree, I'll start. Now you make your choices!"

Without any words, both men stretched out their hands. Joseph was the least doubtful. He had witnessed the most miraculous scene where Jason could fight a werewolf using a tiger drawn on paper. That was a massive tiger that genuinely jumped out from the sheet.

Absolutely real, no doubt about it. Joseph was fully convinced of Jason's ability. Mr. Kote's conviction came from his respect for Jason's formidable strength.

Without wasting any words, Jason drew small swords on their palms, similar to ancient Chinese bronze swords, although the style was different from the European swords. After finishing the drawing, Jason drew a rune on the center of their palms. With a pat, the rune emitted a small sparkling glow and then vanished into their palms. The drawn swords on their palms seemed lifelike, as if they were growing from their flesh.

Even Mr. Kote, a werewolf, couldn't help but exclaim. He looked at Jason with eager eyes. This was like a miraculous technique from legends, causing awe.

"This is amazing..." Even though the light was fleeting, it couldn't hide the magic of the pattern. So Mr. Kote kept uttering words of admiration, "I know… there are too many incredible things in this world, but I didn't expect something this... wonderful... of course... I'm one of those incredible things myself!"

"This world itself is inexplicable!" Jason said. But the true meaning of this statement was only understood by him. His arrival in this world was one of those inexplicable occurrences.

Both men, like children, flipped their palms over and over again, utterly smitten. Jason was silent for a moment and then said, "Try not to go out tonight. Perhaps you can persuade your family members, Lisa, Elizabeth, Sanna... and your friends."

"I understand!" Joseph nodded. He couldn't ignore Jason's words. Even Mr. Kote, who possessed great attacking power after transformation, didn't dare to neglect it and nodded. After all, if it was a zombie, Mr. Kote couldn't confidently say he could handle it. Zombies feared neither life, death, pain nor harm.

Mr. Kote left satisfied. His goal of finding Jason had been achieved.

Around five in the afternoon, Lisa came home. Seeing Jason reading in the living room, she laughed and went over to say hello. She didn't feel embarrassed about having confessed her feelings to Jason before.

Jason just smiled lightly and nodded. Lisa then went upstairs.

Before dinner, Jason received a phone call from Sheriff Louise. Her voice seemed tired, "It's me, Louise the Sheriff. What I wanted to tell you is… Luke Prescott has gone missing."

Another case of a missing corpse. Sheriff Louise was at her wits' end. First, a female corpse went missing. Now, it was Luke Prescott's body. It wasn't just her; the medical examiner had also confirmed multiple times that the guy was utterly dead. There was no chance of survival. Yet, he disappeared.

The morgue's door appeared to have been brutally smashed open, the metal door was distorted, indicating a tremendous amount of force. Unless someone had tools like the police's forced entry equipment, it would be challenging to steal a body.

News of the body's disappearance reached Louise in the morning. She couldn't help but swear up a storm. If the autopsy had been performed at night, everything would have been over by now.

At this point, the officer in charge of the case, Bell Jensen, called again, urging her to find the body. This made her feel like she wanted to explode, but she couldn't.

"Hey, boss--"

Just as she was fretting, there was a knock on the door. A head peeked in; It was Deputy Sheriff Patton. He addressed Sheriff Louise, "Can I come in? I want to talk to you about...the missing body."

It seemed Patton had also learned about the situation. So, Louise nodded and said, "Come in, Patton. I know you might still be upset about the previous incidents, but...we're facing a challenge right now..."

"I know, boss." The way Deputy Sheriff Patton addressed Sheriff Louise had changed. It seemed like he was intentionally trying to curry favor and bridge the gap. After entering, he sat down in front of Sheriff Louise.

"Alright, share your thoughts!" Louise leaned back in her soft chair, crossed her hands on her lower abdomen, and continually interlaced her fingers.

Deputy Sheriff Patton paused, apparently contemplating something or making some challenging decision. Then he looked up at Sheriff Louise and said, "I think...maybe no one would be bored enough to steal a body, perhaps the corpses escaped on their own...don't...don't interrupt me, this is my judgment because I don't think I'm wrong."

"Why don't we ask Mr. Jason for help?" He suggested to Sheriff Louise.
