Jason had always been a lone wolf for over a hundred years, but he understood the rules of this world. He didn't want to violate them with his unique abilities.
Sheriff Louise wasn't sure what to do about Jason, but she had no intention of handing him over to those two FBI jerks who clearly didn't care about the case. After they left, they never contacted her again, not even during the autopsy, preferring to wait for the report in their office.
"Don't start with that psychic nonsense, I don't believe..."
"You don't believe in God and hell?" Jason asked, shaking his head. "I've indeed met many who don't believe in religion, but some who believe that God can save their souls don't believe those souls can also go to hell."
"Everyone wants to go to heaven, I just want an answer, Mr. Jason. Either tell me how you knew where the body was hidden, or I'll find a way to detain you here for a while. I promise, it will become your nightmare." Sheriff Louise admitted that she was running out of patience with him.
"Maybe I can repeat myself: I make a living from this!" Jason shrugged, looking helpless. "You might not believe it, but that's the only answer I can give. And... I've warned you several times, Mr. Luke Prescott is in danger. Can't you send someone to protect him? Or get him out of that damned place?"
"Why?"
"Because the soul of that body..." Jason was serious as he spoke to Sheriff Louise, "it's a cursed soul, unable to rest in hell, hence it became a vengeful spirit. Do you know why? Because when she was killed, she was wearing a red dress - a taboo."
"I can't rashly send personnel based on your ominous words." Sheriff Louise remained unmoved.
"What if I report it?" Jason asked. "Even though I know he might not heed Joseph's advice, I still want him to avoid this crisis. He should have been able to survive a while longer. But... by excavating the body, he's essentially freed the cursed soul."
Sheriff Louise seemed to be listening to a very amusing joke, a smirk playing on her face. She crossed her arms, shrugged at Jason, and gestured for him to continue.
"Whoever owns the villa... will die—" Jason leaned in close to Sheriff Louise's face and said with a sinister tone.
She recoiled in surprise, his speed took her by surprise. Instinctively, she leaned back and almost fell. But she managed to steady herself, then quickly backed away, a hand on her holster.
"Is there a need to be so tense, Sheriff? I was only speaking a little closer to you." Jason smiled and leaned back, laughing at Sheriff Louise's reaction.
"You'll regret this." Sheriff Louise said.
"Is that a threat?" Jason asked casually, "Listen, if you don't get Luke Prescott out of there, you'll regret it."
Sheriff Louise looked at him skeptically and shook her head: "Mr. Jason, I remember Mr. Prescott breaking an agreement in front of you. Why are you still helping him? Even if what you said is true - on the premise that you are a psychic, in reality, you are a fake psychic."
Jason said nothing more and closed his eyes.
Sheriff Louise looked at Jason, considering him. She didn't think he was a rookie making his first visit to the police station, and she felt she wouldn't get anything more out of him. Sighing, she stood up to leave. He was clearly maintaining a silent front. To be honest, she didn't have any good strategies to handle such a slippery character.
Jason didn't speak for the rest of the time. He watched Sheriff Louise leave and sat quietly, resting with his eyes closed. He had said all he had to say and left the rest to fate.
Once outside, Sheriff Louise turned to an officer nearby and said, "He's your problem now. Be careful, don't argue with him, he's no rookie."
The officer chuckled and nodded before closing the door behind him. Sheriff Louise returned to her office and blindly flipped through some files. But Jason's words kept echoing in her ears, causing her to feel annoyed. She tossed the file in her hand aside.
Picking up the phone, she dialed an internal number and said, "Officer Patton, please come to my office." Regardless, she decided to send someone to check on the situation.
A while later, she heard a knock on the door. She called for the person to enter, and saw Deputy Sheriff Patton come in. He nodded at her and sat across from her in her office. He grinned and said, "What did that jerk say? Is he still playing psychic? Don't believe his nonsense. I've heard before that he claimed to be a psychic or something."
"You've heard?" Sheriff Louise felt like she had been made a fool of and glared at him, "Why didn't you tell me before?"
"I thought he was a fraud, a conman. So, locking him up for a few days might be a good lesson." Deputy Patton chuckled, "But... don't worry, I'll handle this. You can rest easy. By the way... why did you call me in?"
Sheriff Louise nodded, "Yes, there is something I need you to do. Visit Mr. Luke Prescott's house, get him to leave his home, anywhere is fine, but he cannot stay there tonight." "Why?" Officer Patton looked at Sheriff Louise incredulously, "We don't seem to have any right to demand that... Why am I the one to do it? And what about... that guy? I mean the charlatan who's still detained in the interrogation room. I told you, I was handling him..."
"Not anymore!" Sheriff Louise spread her hands at him, "Just do this. I don't care how you do it, just get him out of his house. Don't let him sit around waiting for death..."
"Waiting for death? Ah ha, what does that have to do with him leaving his house? Oh... my God, you didn't just fall for the words of that charlatan, did you? Marlin, I think you've fallen into that kid's trap..." Officer Patton said, looking at her in disbelief.
"Do you know what you're talking about? Officer Patton, I am the sheriff of this station, and you... you're just a deputy. I hope you understand this as soon as possible. It will help you do your job better." Sheriff Louise couldn't help but raise her voice significantly.
Officer Patton was left speechless by Sheriff Louise's words, but he still managed to stand up. Her words had hit a nerve, but there was nothing he could do; he was just a deputy. All he had to do now was to follow orders. So, he nodded at Sheriff Louise and said, "Yes, ma'am, Sheriff!" He then turned and left.
It was all that damned Chinese man's fault. He was the one making a mess of things. He'd heard Jason's words at Luke Prescott's villa. So, he was pinning all his resentment on Jason.
As he passed by the interrogation room, he glared at Jason who was sitting inside. However, the man was deep in meditation and didn't notice him at all.
He then called over to the officer standing at the door and said, "Santos, grab your gear. Come with me. Dammit, there are always some annoying things to deal with."
"Did you have a fight with the boss?" The officer called Santos asked Officer Patton, "I think she's a bit on edge, like she's wound up tight, like a spring ready to snap at any moment, possibly hurting someone."
"I know, so we're the ones who got hurt by the spring this time." Officer Patton grumbled, "I hope that bastard was right; otherwise, I'll make him pay."
"You mean that Chinese guy, Jason?" Santos shook his head, unconvinced, "That's why... the boss is too tense, eager to do something, so she brought in that poor Chinese guy."
