Chapter 7 - 6 His comments

We trailed behind the 'wisdom man' down the tunnel. So many doors lined up the walls of the tunnel, as well as lit torches but we stepped into none of them; we just walked on. I and Kyle walked together behind the group. It made me to wonder; Since when did we become pals?

"Where do you think he's taking us?" I asked low enough that only he could hear.

"I don't know but he'd better be taking us to that back door so we can get out of here," Kyle said cooly; he always spoke that way.

"I'm very suspicious of this school," I found myself saying to him.

"It's not just you. Something fishy's going on," Kyle said.

"But how do we find it out? Obviously he doesn't want to spill anything," I stated.

"Let the rest of the journey take its course. We'll find out, don't worry," Kyle said and gave me a small smile.

"I hope so," I said.

"You ain't scared, are you?" Kyle asked.

"Why should I be?"

"He said the trip's gonna be dangerous," he said.

"Dangerous or not our freedom matters though if it was left for me, I would have stuck around for some investigation," I said.

"You are some type of girl...and I like it," he said.

I stared at him as though he was bonkers.

"Don't get me wrong," Kyle quickly added, "it's just a compliment."

"Right." I answered.

We were quiet for a moment as we continued our walk through the tunnel. I prayed silently within me that we would arrive at wherever it was that Alex was taking us so I could rest my legs a bit; they were aching.

I spared a glance at Kyle for a split second. He seemed okay. Why wouldn't he be? He was on the basketball and football teams so his legs were as strong as metal. Since the beginning of the trip till now and even in the library, he seems to be a nice guy.

To be honest, I had actually narrowed my chances of getting close to him because I believed our spirits would never link but it turned out he was a good guy and not the playboy I presumed him to be.

"You seem to be lost in thought, you okay?" Kyle said startling me from my thought zone.

"Why do you say so?" I asked.

" 'Cause I've called you three times and you didn't answer," Kyle stated.

"Really?" I asked surprised and he nodded.

"You're sure you're okay?" He asked and I nodded not missing the concerned look in his eyes.

"Sooo, what do you think about me?" Kyle asked out of the blue.

"How do you mean?" I asked.

"Well everyone kind of sees me as some cool guy, hot prince. They say I give off snazzy vibes," Kyle explained.

"I'm gonna be sincere here. From the onset I actually thought you were a harsh person, or better put some kinda cold prince but being with you in person changes that. You're brilliant, you're a nice guy, handsome but nice and you're definitely not self centered or proud like I thought you'll be. There, that's my opinion," I said to him. I had told him the truth and nothing but the truth.

"That's nice to hear," he said with a small smile.

"What about me? What do you think about me?" I found myself asking.

"Hmm, let's see," he began, "you're kindhearted..."

"How do you know that?" I interrupted.

"I've seen you more than a couple of times. You help those in need of help. Like the day you helped that kid at the school gate when he tripped over to the day you stood up for Suzan, that girl in the eleventh grade when miss Olivia tried to bully her. Oh, and I can't miss the day you cuddled that cute puppy that sneaked into the cafeteria the other day," Kyle narrated much to my amazement.

"You saw all that?" I asked bewildered.

"Yeah, a prince knows his castle," Kyle stated.

"I guess," I managed to say.

"The thing is you're a really nice girl, you're intelligent, you're beautiful, cute smile and you stand up for yourself and for others as well....these are not things you find in most girls today, are they?" Kyle said but I stayed mute.

Woah! If I had expected any bit of what he said from anyone it definitely wouldn't be him. His comments made me speechless.

"Wow! I didn't expect all that," I finally squeezed out the words out of me.

"Avril Scott, you're not alone in this world. Someone's bound to notice your character and I'm a hundred percent sure that I ain't the only one," he said.

"I'll keep that in my mental note," I said to him and he gave me a smile, I did too.

Silence fell between us for a while. The rest were all chattering making me grateful that they didn't hear anything. I didn't want them to or they'll become matchmakers especially Miles and Monica. They were blessings and curses to me at the same time.

"Do you have close friends, like a best friend?" I asked not knowing from what angle the question came out from.

"I do have a pal who I talk to alot. He knows my secrets and I know his, Zayn." Kyle said.

"So he's your besty?"

"I guess you'd call him that but I call him my bud, besty kinda..."

"Sounds a bit girlish?" I teased.

"Yeah I guess so."

Alex suddenly came to a halt and so did the rest of the group. I was grateful for the stop.

"I told you guys the back door's gonna be dangerous but y'all insisted that you gon take the risk for the sake of your freedom," Alex said like he was admonishing a sermon and our eyes peered at him unaware of our current location.

"I didn't want to do this but hey, a bro's got to do what a bro's got to do so, ladies and gentlemen I present to you the exit." He said and stepped aside.

Our eyes darted away from him to what he had unveiled.
