"Back door? Or back doors?"
Lined on the opposite wall in front of us stood three huge arched doors.
Okay, I was clearly not expecting to see that.
"I'm sorry but when you said we were going to the back door, why didn't you say mention it had a number?" I questioned.
"You didn't ask." Alex said.
"Didn't ask? What the.." I wanted to scream into Alex's ear so loudly that I might go deaf myself.
"Isn't there any other way out?" Miles asked.
"Nope! Only this back door... sorry back doors." Alex replied.
"What do those markings at the top of the walls mean?" Monica asked out of the blue.
We all looked at the doors and truly, there were markings on the door walls.
On top of each door passage where drawings of what I really couldn't put my finger on.
"The markings are different." Miles pointed out.
"The first door's got a drawing of a... skeleton perhaps," Miles said.
"A skeleton in clothes." Olivia put in. For a moment, I almost forgot she was aboard this 'ship'; poor thing.
"And armed with a sword," Monica said.
"The second door's got a drawing of a fish, I think." Miles said.
"That fish looks kinda weird. It's got sharp teeth from what I can see," Monica put in.
"Piranha," I slowly began, "that's definitely a piranha."
"You mean those nasty, aggressive water fishes?" Miles asked.
"Yep that's it," I replied.
Miles sighed before proceeding to the last.
"The last door's got a pretty strange drawing, if you ask me." He said.
"Looks like a bear and a wolf cross breed." Kyle said.
"But what do those markings mean?" Monica asked.
"Wait those things can't possibly be in those doors, can they?" Olivia said and all eyes darted to her. She was actually making sense then all eyes darted to Alex.
"What?" Alex asked completely taken aback by the sudden action.
"You heard what she said. Are those things really in the tunnel?" I asked bluntly.
"Only one way to find out. Besides I told you it was dangerous,"Alex told us.
That's it! We were doomed.
"You can't be serious," Kyle said, "you mean we have to walk through those doors? Hear yourself man."
"To get out of this tunnel, you have to," Alex said.
I was fed up of the whole idea. We had no clue if those things were actually behind those doors or not but the person who must have made those markings probably knew what he or she was doing.
"I hate to be that 'guy' but this is the only way or you could squat with me in my apartment, how's that?," Alex said.
"We're doomed," Miles said and buried his face in his palms, frustrated.
"Well I also hate to be that girl but I don't think I was born to squat with someone for the rest of my life," I said laying emphasis on the squat.
"I'll take my chances and anyone's free to come with. I'm not compelling anyone," I said and strides to the last tunnel.
"Hold on a minute," Miles said and came running.
I prayed silently within that he wouldn't talk me out of it. He was fond of that.
"You're not going to see that cross breed monster alone, are you?" Miles said and I smiled.
"You sure," I asked. As much as I wanted him and the others to come, I wouldn't bare to put their lives at risk especially if it's not their choice.
Miles gave an affirmative nod.
"Fine I'll come with," Monica said and walked over.
"We'll have to split up if everyone's embarking on this death sentence," Alex put in. I'm pretty sure he wasn't happy with the way this was going.
"I'll go but only with Kylie," Olivia said and made for Kyle but he made a run for it too.
"Yo Monica let's team up for the fish house," Kyle said. By fish house he meant the second door.
"That leaves Alex and Olivia. They'll be going onboard the sunken pirates ship," Miles said and we laughed.
"So in we go I guess," Monica said.
"Wait!" I halted remembering something.
"What's the matter?" Monica asked.
"Here take these," I said pulling out daggers from my backpack and distributed one each to everyone.
They stared at me in utmost shock.
"Good gracious! What are you doing with daggers?" Monica asked.
"Were you planning to kill people?" Kyle asked, staring mildly at the dagger. How typical!
"S.S.H has finally done it. They've admitted an assassin," Alex said.
"It's not a big deal. I keep them for self defense. That's it," I stated bluntly.
I was authorised to use one. I took self defense classes during the summer and I was mandated to have daggers but strictly for self defense.
"Hope they're sharp enough to cut through bones if there any skeletons behind this door?" Alex asked.
"How 'bout we do some experimenting, huh?" I said and made for him.
"Chill, I'm just kidding," Alex said and I retreated.
"Better be," I said. I managed to catch a glimpse of Kyle's expression. What was he smirking at?
"Alright everyone, this is it," Miles said then added, "if I don't come out, know that I love you all."
"C'mon!"
"What the hell!"
"Bro easy."
"Miles!"
"Don't be pessimistic."
"We'll get out safely," I said.
"I pray so," Miles said.
In accordance, we all stood in front of our respective doors. Alex and Olivia at the first, Kyle and Monica at the the second and finally, I and Miles at the last. I kind of wondered why Miles would choose to follow me instead of Monica. I knew him too well.
I looked from the first door to second till my eyes caught Kyle's. His facial expression clearly read; 'be careful' and I nodded. My lips silently formed the words; 'you too'.
"Alright on the count of three we move," Kyle said, "one, two, three....go."
We all stepped into our respective doors embarking on what I'll like to call 'a suicide mission'.
