I wasn't a straight-A student, so I just gave up on studying (while trying to) but
got no choice. University is my only goal right now. Lunch was only 1 hour, but it
was enough time to read some comics. Reading is what nerds do, Maya says from
behind. "While do I look like a nerd to you," I responded. "No, you look like an
angel. "
"Let's go outside Om". I hate it when she calls me that. "Why"?
"It's boring", fine let's go, but I'm not playing your who's the hottest game, got it?
Fine, fine, but can we at least talk about them? Astgfuallah, Maya, we are
Muslims. "Sigh" "Okay, let's just go eat lunch with the boring nature".
"Ha" it's so nice, you were right, we should have come out right away. "Om, how
long do we have until lunch is over"?
"Half an hour," why?
Let's go to Tim
Do you have money? Or are you trying to make me pay for you?
"I do have money". How much do you have? I asked, looking around at the
students who were going in and out through every door. It's surprising to know that
there are so many students at Harbor High School, even though it looks so empty
during class times. One student was looking at me; it was a boy. Boy! The word
echoed in my ears and he was smiling. Okay...…
20 bucks
Maya?
What! I asked Mom to give me money for lunch
"Then let's go, and also There is a boy who keeps on staring at me
Where?
"Maya, stop looking around. He might realize we are talking about him. "
Do you see that one, I said, pointing with my eyes. The one with the black T-shirt
and the black pants, medium height, in the middle.
Girl, he's hot; maybe he likes you or something.
Nah, why would he? I mean, look at me.
"You look sexy to me," said Maya, looking up and down, making me feel shy. I
wouldn't say that, I mean, with my long summer dress and hijab and all. Though I
like to dress fashionably, I can't say I'm that attractive.
Are we going to Tim or not? I asked Maya, giving her a "let's go fast" look.
"Ok let's go", let me guess. Om wants an Oreo ice cap with extra whipping cream.
"Awww, Habibti, no wonder I love you," I said, kissing her cheeks. "Ew, stop it,"
Maya says, turning around even though I knew she liked it when I kissed her. As
we crossed the road, I realized the streets were much busier than the usual days.
Cars beeping, people crossing streets, sounds everywhere, dogs barking, and stores
are open. I could smell the fresh food as we passed by and came closer to Tim. I
could smell the fresh cinnamon buns and doughnuts. The coffee was so strong,
filling the air with a positive smell.
