An alarm clock hit me with the sound of beeping. It was 8:00 in the morning when
I awoke. "Morning habibti", I sluggishly look up to see my husband already
getting ready to head out. "Morning," I say as he bends down to kiss me. "Get
ready fast or you will be late for school," he says. "Hmm, can I not go today
please," I say, making a cute face that I know he would not resist at all. But to my
surprise, he said "No, you have to go to school, it's the last year, then you will be
finished. "Please husband" I pleaded with him. "Ok fine," he says as he goes
downstairs. "Breakfast is ready, come eat". "Ok" I replied from the washroom.
After brushing my teeth, I make my way downstairs, as I watch my husband frying
some eggs. Hugging him from behind I asked, "Do you mean it, can I stay home
with you today"?
"Yes, and we can go somewhere," said Rahan while frying the second egg. "Ha ha,
thanks habibi, I love you so much". He suddenly turned off the stove turned around
picked me up and headed toward the room. He entered the bedroom closing the
door behind him. "What about breakfast"
"Later"…
A few hours later, we ate breakfast and started our daily routine
First, we recited the Quran and started our day. Our life has been so lovely since
the day we met. Every day I would just recall our memory of the first time we met.
How destiny brought us together, without us making any effort of our own Allah
let destiny find us. Sometimes I just sit and ponder about how amazing it is that it
was written for us to be together 50,000 years before the Earth and the universe
were created. The day we met was the best thing that happened to me, I was just in
the second year of finishing high school at that time.
On this first day of grade 11 life, a sunny day in summer, with no idea what the
future holds for me, it was a sunny day with warmth in the air. Thankfully, Dad
drove me; Maya was here, I reminded myself. The only other person I know who
went to this school is Maya; we attended the same elementary school.
We met in grade 4; since then we have become BFFs. I trust her more than anyone
in the world. As I entered through the first door, it was a red door with a big
number that said 1. "Let's go, you can do it," I told myself, even though I knew I
couldn't. Since it wasn't a semester school, we had days. On Day 1, I have Math
and English, on Day 2 I have Art and Science, on Day 3 I have PIE and French,
and on Day 4 I have family studies and geography. Today is Day 1, so I have math
and English. I dislike math and math itself dislikes me.
