"Hello! Anyone There?" Gina shouted out into the void, she had been floating in it for what felt like hours, she couldn't tell what direction she was facing or going, and even if there was a floor, walls, or ceiling. She had taken to shouting out into the void in a sort of desperate plea for anyone to help her out of this situation.
"Anyone! Anyone at a-" at that moment an office materialized out of nowhere encasing Gina in its charming peacefulness, it was a perfectly normal office with a desk opposite a large window, bookshelves lining the wall with several awards on the shelves, and a large couch on the side of the room.
The only thing out of place in this peaceful office was the demonic lady sitting behind the desk staring at Gina. She had purple skin, long smooth black hair, immaculate nails, and a perfect body, two horns were also atop her head almost completely black and curved upwards, the main problem Gina had with her was her outfit. A nice set of glasses sat on her face, with only two other stickers that Gina could see covering her nipples, the rest of her body hanging out freely.
The lady signaled for Gina to sit in the chair in front of her, while going back to a set of papers reading through each one slowly and making small notes in them from time to time.
Floating over to the chair and sitting down in it Gina quietly sat for a few minutes waiting for the lady to say something, eventually doing a light cough to get her attention.
The demon put her papers down for a slight second and looked at Gina, "Don't worry Miss.Gina Lier I'm just reading over your file, now there is a slight issue in that we're missing your rank, could you please tell me what rank you were given at the selection process? Elizabeth should have explained this to you."
She was confused at what the lady meant by that, "I'm not sure what you mean by rank, Elizabeth, or Eliza as she called herself knocked me out, forced me through a ritual and left immediately."
The demon lady took off her glasses and rubbed her eyes, cursing under her breath, "God dammit Elizabeth, did you seriously do this again?" She pulled out a microphone from inside of her desk, placed it on the table and activated it, "Bonnie, if you're available, go and get every file Eliza has submitted in the current planet, she started skipping again."
A loud sigh rang from the microphone, "Heather, are you serious? This better not be some joke, the last time Eliza skipped we had to work overtime for three months and still only barely made it work on Phobis."
The demonic Heather as Bonnie had called her nodded, "Unfortunately yes, I'm talking with one of hers now, she doesn't even know what rank she is."
A loud string of curses rang from the microphone, "Next time I see Eliza, I'll strangle her with her hair and string her up for the goddamn ravens, well at least we've got the second awakened. I'll tell the others you deal with them."
Turning off the microphone/speaker she put it back in her desk and turned to stare at Gina, "Don't worry about this Miss.Lier, you're not to blame for this and we'll work this through, now would you mind me asking a few basic questions, before I go into explaining everything."
She shook her head, "No no problem at all."
Heather smiled at her, "Good now would you like some refreshments or snacks before we get into the details?"
"If you have a slice of pizza, a bunch of kids brought them in for the party, but I couldn't eat a single bite."
"Don't worry, in this space even ethereal bodies can enjoy food, now I don't have some pizza on hand, but I've sent a message to the chef, he'll have it out in a bit. Now onto the first step, did you sign any contract before the ritual took place, anything at all?"
Gina shook her head, "No, we had a nice date, went to her place, and she knocked me out and activated the ritual."
Heather smiled at that, "Good that makes you a foundling, you're much more valuable now due to your awakening. Now you are a dungeon master, specifically a foundling, your purpose is to manage the dungeons which we create on your home planet."
Gina raised her hand slightly, and Heather gave her the go ahead, "Why are you creating dungeons?"
"Well your world is starting to absorb what we call Mana, now Mana normally exists everywhere in space, but when a planet forms it starts to repel it for an eons at the earliest, now Earth as you call it has finally started to absorb Mana again, but the process of absorption happens so suddenly and quickly that unless you have dungeons for filters the world would explode and generate a new sun."
Heather took a moment to wipe a smudge off of her glasses before continuing, "Each dungeon needs a master to manage it in order to make sure it doesn't become wild and shoot out of control, but these dungeon masters will eventually awaken. Usually this would take months of constant effort, but due to your dungeon not being fully formed yet it was quite easy for you, did something like a ghostly or demonic ritual happen near you?"
Gina leaned back in her chair, "A group of college students drunkenly did the Bloody Mary ritual would that count?"
Heather noted it down on the paper, "That would do it, they seemed to have had their bodies absorbed by you in the process, but we'll assign them to masterless dungeons so they'll be fine, heck they'll do a lot better than they originally would have."
"Why would they be doing better as dungeon masters?"
Heather pursed her lips slightly at Gina's question, "The influx of mana will cause mutations in the wildlife, about 40 percent of all life will mutate into monsters, losing their sanity and intelligence, while another 30 percent won't be able to withstand the incoming mana and die a horrible death. The remaining 30 percent will gain access to mana while at the same time most technology that uses electronics will face heavy interference if they're able to work at all, it'll take decades to get the world back to its usual state if at all, but not to worry, as a dungeon master your life is perfectly safe. From the looks of it about half of them fall under the horrible death category, but now they'll simply become dungeon masters."
A bit stunned by the information she simply nodded at Heather's question, letting her continue on, "Now you are a foundling, it's one of three potential categories dungeon masters can fall under, the other two being an employed and a recruited. The only difference between the three is the amount of freedom each is provided, employed dungeon masters will have quotas to meet and goals to follow, but as a foundling you're completely free from those restrictions."
"So, I'm basically just self-employed or a contractor?"
"Exactly!" At the moment that Heather answered her a knock was heard on the door, and Gina could already smell her pizza from outside, "Come in Gilgamesh!"
Gilgamesh as she called him turned out to be a mind flayer, dressed in a neat chef's outfit instead of the usual wizard robes, with Heather going into a brief explanation, "Gilgamesh is our chef, and he's a mind flayer, now normally they work in magical research or interrogation, but Gilgamesh always had a passion for cooking. He reads our minds throughout the day to find what we want to try and always delivers a wonderfully nice meal to us."
Gina nodded, taking a bite out of the still piping hot pizza, only to taste what she thought as heaven, "Ah this is delicious, thank you Gilgamesh!" The mind flayer only gave a slight bowed in appreciation as he left the room.
"Now where was I, ah yes, the awakening. You are what we call the first wave awakened, each wave varies in size, but the first is the smallest, being based on the seven deadly sins and heavenly virtues, we won't know your type until we know what you see me as, so what do I look like an angel or demon?"
Still taking bites out of the pizza slice, trying her best to savor its taste Gina answered, "Uh demon, but why can't you just look at yourself in the mirror?"
Heather laughed at her question, "My body is made of gas, to others that can properly conceive my form I'm a vaguely humanoid cloud, but to the ones that can't comprehend it I can choose what I show up as, right now I'm forcing myself to appear as your awakened type even if I myself don't know what that is, now what am I wearing? Battle armor, hundreds of jewels, usually the type is based on the outfit?"
Gina felt she was glowing red, while she had tried a lot to ignore it Heather's outfit left much to be desired, not even including extra clothing, mumbling out her first answer she finally gave in, "Pasties and glasses! Nothing else."
Heather was stunned for a bit by her answer before noting it down in the paperwork, "So you're our new lust type, so that's both lust and sloth taken up so far, let's hope the next ones come faster than last time."
Heather stood up, letting Gina see that it was only three pasties that she was wearing, "Thank you for the compliance, Miss.Lier, you've been provided a small gift for your help in this situation and our failure from Elizabeth, you'll be able to open it back at your dungeon, but for now would you like to finish your pizza before we start race change or after?"
There were only a few small bits of crust left now, so Gina just went about devouring it in a single bite and wiping her face, "I'm ready to go, but what do you mean by race change?"
Walking to the door and opening it Heather answered, "Oh any awakened gets to change to a new race to provide a better set of powers and strength, now please follow me."
