Sometimes a person learned to appreciate and love the experience after long-term exposure, just like how people eventually came to love durians and smelly tofus. Similarly, after being forced to engage in such exhilarating experiences, Cori learned to enjoy the adrenaline rush and was able to completely relax in thrilling situations- like the rollercoaster ride for example.
He no longer resigned himself to fate but instead developed a passion and reverence for seeking danger. The riskier it was, the higher the reward. To be fair, he was not placed in any life and death situation nor did he receive any injuries. Hence, the phrase applicable to him should be "the more exciting the situation, the higher the reward".
This time, the door to the next room no longer looked foreboding. It felt warm and welcoming to Cori. He felt his heart calling out to him that this next room would be like home to him. So he entered without much thought.
System, "Welcome to the Games Room. 1 Player detected. Which game would you like to play?" A holographic list of games appeared in front of Cori. "1. Fast and Fury. 2. Hungry hungry Rhino. 3. Hello Water Team Raven. 4. MotorGP. 5. Ball Shooter 6. MorioCart 7. House of Undead. 8. Astro Strike. 9. Dance Dance Evolution. 10. Gacha. Level Up to see more!"
Cori thinking to himself, "Hmmm House of Undead sounds dangerous, I should avoid that."
System, "Ding! Input detected. Uploading House of Undead. User able to use equipped items. Game commencing in 3, 2, 1!"
Cori looked at his equipment. Instead of his knives, he was strapped with a dagger and a gun. The ambience grew creepier and darker. The scenery looked familiar, it looked like the city he grew up in but sirens were ringing and the cars were in flames and abandoned. "Mission: save the survivor." A helicopter flew toward Cori, "Hop on! We got to go! Now! Now! Now!" The soldier threw a rope ladder to him. Cori bounced and tried to latch onto the rope. A missile roared through the air and shot the copter down. "Squeak!" Cori bounced back and ran into the building behind him, seeking shelter.
The lights were not working but Cori conveniently found a torchlight on the floor. System, "Quest: Power up the generator." Cori went down to the basement, and found a backpack with a first aid kit. Proceeding cautiously with the dagger in one paw and torchlight in another, he tried to locate the generator in the building.
The floor was brown and sticky and smelled of rust. The sound of chains clinked with every passing minute in the unusually cold and dark basement. Yet Cori felt relaxed. He bounced in the direction of the sound and shone the light in the same direction only to find a bloody figure rushing towards him. Cori skilfully dodged its razor teeth bounced onto the box before performing a somersault and plunged the dagger deep into its skull. The zombie-liked creature struggled in futile. Held back by its chains, it was as good as lamb chop. The sharp blade cracked its bones and sliced the zombie into two. Mounted on the wall was the generator with bite marks all over its metal cover. Cori leapt towards the generator and the system activated the repairing process, "Generator found, repairing....50%, 60%,90%, 100%. Powering up." With electricity back on, the yellow lights in the building flickered back to life.
