When Corvin opened his eyes, he was in complete darkness. He couldn't even feel the ground beneath him properly, even though he was lying down. He lifted himself up to sit and he felt something flow down from his cheeks.
"I was crying?", he muttered and wiped his tears.
He looked around, to see nothing around him at all.
"So, where am I? Is this the afterlife?"
"Pffft. No, it's not, hahahaha!"
Suddenly someone's laughter reached his ears. It wasn't the sound of a woman or a man but it sounded human. Hearing the sudden noise, he suddenly jerked.
'Someone is here?'
"Wh-Who are you?!", shouted Corvin, quickly standing up.
"Calm down kid, I'm here to help you."
"Answer my question!"
"Sigh. Alright, alright. My name is Ton, even though it wasn't me who chose that name."
Ton came out of the dark and walked towards Corvin as it introduced itself. No, it was more accurate to say that it started glowing up. It was a 2 meter tall humanoid with pure white skin and completely black eyes. It's hair was a transparent mix of dark blue, purple and pink, it looked like sparkling clouds. It was wearing a completely black suit with star-like dots that sparkled.
Corvin was surprised, but wasn't scared. More than that, he was curious about the being in front of him.
"What are you?"
"Rude. Shouldn't you introduce yourself first?"
"Ah, I'm sorry, my name is Corvin Mundy."
"Yeah, I know. He told me everything already."
"Who?"
"Sorry, I can't tell you that. And, I can't answer your question because people from your planet haven't named beings like me yet."
"What do you mean?"
"Hmmm, how do I explain.....? Ah! Listen, you know what stars are right?"
"Huh? Yeah, I do?"
"Well, let's just say I am something that hides among those stars. But, you can't see me because I don't shine like them."
"I don't understand."
"Don't worry, it looks like people from your planet aren't that far away from discovering it."
"What does that mean?"
"It means a lot will change, in a small amount of time. You want to change the world right? You are lucky, you were born while your world was getting ready to change completely."
When his dreams suddenly became the topic, Corvin felt a little embarassed.
"H-How do you know that!?"
"Well, I am really old afterall, I can tell."
"Hm? How old are you? You don't look that old to me. I would say you are at your 30s."
"You are so off it's not even funny you know? I am older than the planet you live on, son. Didn't I tell you I live among stars? Well, more like exist among stars, I am not a living being."
"How do you move like this then?"
"You will find out someday. That is not important now. I was supposed to talk to you about your village."
----!!
Suddenly, the images of that disaster came back to his mind. His knees started to shake. Noticing this, Ton quickly reassured him.
"Don't worry, everyone is safe Corvin."
"B-But I saw people die!!"
"Yeah, think of it like a premonition, okay? You will wake up the morning it all happened after I send you back."
"Premonition? Then won't the same things happen again?"
"No, don't worry. This time the colossus will come tomorrow morning. That's enough time to call the guards from the city. Isn't your fief lord a military leader? You will be safe."
"C-Colossus? Ho-how did a colossus appear? It has only been a single year since the last one that came to the Margravate!"
Colossus were special monsters. Much stronger, smarter and destructive than normal monsters, they were usually considered natural disasters. They usually looked and behaved much differenly than normal monsters; which generally looked similar to animals, or a mixture of some animals. But their appearence was much rarer as well, usually only two that appeared at the same time on the planet, and it would take about 4-5 years for one to appear on the globe. 2 of them appearing back to back was never seen before, especially at the same area.
"Hu-h? A-aah, I-I don't know? W-well, you see, it's... maybe it's a weaker one you know? Maybe that's why? Yes, that must be why!", said Ton, acting weird.
"Hmmm.... Are you hiding anything from me?", asked Corvin suspiciously.
"Ha-ha-ha, why would I? Come on Corvy, I am not your enemy right?"
"I don't know, are you?"
"No, nope, never.", replied Ton quickly.
"Even if you were, aren't I like a bug compared to you? Why are you acting like that?"
"Huh? Aah... How should I put it?... Well, basically, that person said you have the potential to be stronger than even him. And, well, he can delete my existence with just a thought, sooo...."
"WHAT?!?!"
"Well, appearently you are special? I don't know why though, so don't as- Ack! U-uuuhh, can you act like you didn't hear what I said? I wasn't supposed to tell that to you."
"Can't you just delete my memory since you are so strong?"
"Now, that's not really a nice thing right? I don't want to do that."
"Yeah, it's not. Well, whatever. Can you send me back now? I need to save people right?"
"Ah, right, before I forget, I need to tell you something. Did you realize the weird thing that helped you kill those eyeballs?"
"Ah, yeah, I remember. What was that? Was that you?"
"Uhh, no. It was you, or rather your magic. You were using magic. Vector magic, to be precise."
"MAGIC?!?! I can use magic??"
"Uuuh, didn't I tell you, you can become much stronger than me? What is magic to a guy like you?"
"So all this time, I was wasting my time working for money that I didn't need?"
"Are you stupid? You always need money! Even I know that, despite not using money!"
"So? How do I do it? Can you teach me?"
"Well, it's like using a new limb okay? Once you do it the first time, it should be getting easier. You also need to keep in mind what type of magic you can use okay?"
"You said vector magic right?"
Vector magic. The power over vectors like force, velocity and acceleration.
"Yup. Here, something to test your magic on.", said Ton, as he dropped a metallic ball and other metallic objects on the ground.
"Try to use you imagination. Your mind is the thing that shapes your magic. You humans have weird magic because of your mind."
"So magic isn't weird but human magic is?"
"Well, at least it is really different than animals no?"
"I don't know, I never saw animal magic."
"Well, whatever. Come on, work on your magic. We don't have much time left."
"Right.", said Corvin and started to try and move the ball with his magic.
At the start he struggled but he got the hang of it after almost passing out two times. Learning how to use magic from the start was exhausting. But he wasn't complaining. This would undoubtedly help him achieve his dreams.
While practicing, Ton explained him a little bit about how human magic worked, and what vectors were.
Human magic was split into two: Scientific and creative. Scientific magic was much more common than creative magic and it was about manipulating the laws of the world. The more knowledge one had about the field of their magic, the easier and more powerful their magic would become. That's why it was essential to go to school if one had talent for scientific magic. Most nobles would invest in commoner children with talent and pay for their education to hire them after their graduation.
After learning more about physics and testing his ideas, Corvin felt ready to leave.
"I think I am done here Ton."
"Alright. That took more than I thought. You really are like how he described you. Then, I am sending you back now, so don't die again, okay?"
"I won't, thanks to you!"
"It is a pleasure. Also don't forget Corvin, the human mind makes magic weird, okay? Vector magic, in it's core is just about arrows. Once you get strong enough, you will be able to use vector magic on anything that you can imagine as an arrow, and not just vectors. Well, probably. You can break the rules your mind created on it's own. But don't try to force it, you will understand what I said eventually anyways."
"I understand. Then see you later Ton!"
"Well, I may watch you for a while since I have too much free time."
"Please do! Bye!", said Corvin as his world got whiter and whiter.
'I will kill that monster!', thought Corvin with determination while being enveloped by light.
