After coming back to the village, Corvin sent the people that refused to leave with the letter Noah gave. After helping people leave the village, Corvin decided to test the green axe. The axe was sharp enough to cut half-way through an average tree with just his one swing. Corvin tried to use his new found power with the axe, and after chopping two trees off with a single swing, he stopped trying the axe. It was obviously good so he decided not to chip it's edge by chopping trees anymore.
Corvin tested some of his ideas on how to use his magic as the sun was going down. Not many of them were practical during a fight, so he decided to stick to basic attacks. Mentally exhausted, he decided to rest a little bit.
Actually he fell asleep, but thankfully he woke up before the colossus came.
He opened his eyes to see the darkness of the night getting brighter. The sun was starting to rise to a beautiful sky with no clouds. A warm wind flew by Corvin, carrying some of the first autumn leaves with it.
Corvin got up and washed his face to get rid of his dizziness. He picked up some arrows left behind by someone and snapped their shafts off. He only needed the sharp metal parts.
After finishing his preparations, he started gazing at the sky absentmindedly. He was calm, the world around him was also calm. He walked towards the farms so that the houses wouldn't be damaged in the fight.
Then after about 40 minutes passed, Corvin felt a strong gaze from the mountains.
There it was, a giant eyeball coming from a pathway located between two hills of the Werga Mountains. With some movement behind it, which Corvin assumed to be the minions, the monster was flying towards him without making a sound.
"There you are!", shouted Corvin, trying to look brave in front of no one.
His heart was beating loudly, his breathing was ragged. The memories from their first encounter flooded back to his mind. His hands started trembling.
He was scared. Who wouldn't be? He was facing a colossus alone, a being that is treated as a natural disaster was heading towards him with the intent to kill.
'Noah was right... I really am an idiot hahaha.'. He tried laughing his fear away, but of course it didn't work at all.
After a long and intense staring contest, the monster came close to Corvin, until there were ten steps left between them. It's movements stopped. Suddenly ten or so minions springed from it's back and attacked him with open mouths.
Corvin swung his axe with the help of his magic. Immediately, three of the minions were sliced into two and fell on the ground. Corvin continued swinging his axe, he sliced and sliced and sliced, but for every minion he killed, there would be another one replacing it right after.
He was starting to get exhausted both physically and mentally. He was being pushed back by the minions and the colossus kept it's distance. It was just watching the minions turn into a trail of eye hemispheres on the ground.
'I can't go on like this...'
After killing twenty three of the minions, Corvin decided to change his plan and get rid of the big one. He jumped more than five meters into the air using his magic, and threw 5 arrow heads towards the colossus. He used magic so the arrows flew faster, but the tentacle like muscles behind the colossus suddenly catched three of the arrow heads. Two of them hit the monster but didn't do much damage.
Shwaaa
The colossus immediately threw back the arrows it catched towards Corvin. He hastily used magic to dodge them but one of them scratched his right shoulder and another got stuck on his upper leg.
"Aaagghh!"
Corvin shouted involuntarily. It hurt like hell, the projectile almost dug enough to hit his femur.
A muscle mass suddenly flew towards him as Corvin was trying to pick some more arrow from his pocket on his descent. Instinctively, he slashed towards the muscles with the axe in his left hand with the help of magic. He cut one of the muscles but because of his panic, he strained his arm too much. He heard some muscles rip, and then another wave of pain hit him like a boulder falling off a cliff. He never experienced this much pain before.
After a not so graceful landing, he emptied his pocket with the arrow heads and using the last bit of mental power he had, he threw them towards the eye with desperation. The projectiles were boosted with magic, but the minions blocked them with their bodies to protect the colossus.
Corvin couldn't stand up anymore, he couldn't use one of his arms, and his leg was hurt badly. He fell down on his butt, facing the giant eye. There were many dead minions on the ground. His desperate final attack also didn't land. He was defeated in seconds.
'I didn't have even a small chance, huh?'
Woom woom woom
The minions left alive from his axe, hid behind the colossus. It's pupil was turning yellow. Corvin faintly felt energy flowing into the eye as it got brighter. He closed his eyes because the yellow light was too bright for him.
*****
Felyp was riding a horse at full speed with 4 people riding behind him.
When he got home, his son told him about a possible colossus attack. Not wanting to relive the horror of last year, he quickly took his best men with him and started riding towards the village his son told him.
'Where did this damn thing come from, right as I come back home. That monster better be there.'
He is a 37 year old man with a body that shows his years of training. He had short white hair and purple eyes, without any facial hair on his handsome face. He is a margrave of the Altus Empire, defending the eastern border with the Kingdom of Brutea and the western coasts of the Empire against Repit raids. On his belt was his sword "Mordais", a one and a half meter long purple sword with a silver guard and handle. It was a special sword, designed to handle high temperatures along with slashing and cutting things. The reason for that is Felyp's magic.
Energy magic. The power to change the energy values of things. He usually heats his sword up to ridiculous temperatures hot enough to melt most metal it touches in seconds. Because using magic in that way is very easy for him, he can focus on other things during battle, like his sword or the enemy while also increasing his attack power with magic.
Felyp reached for his trusty sword when he started to see what was going on in the village.
"Huh? Is that a kid?", asked one of his men.
"Oooh, now that's interesting!"
Felyp was surprised, but more than that he was excited. He almost couldn't believe his eyes when he saw what was happening. A kid was battling it out with a giant disgusting eyeball and some smaller ones. The kid moved his hands fast and always hit something. He recognized the green axe the boy held.
"Ahahaha, this is the kid Noah talked about? Let's see how well he fares.", said Felyp amusedly.
The kid then launched into the air and threw some things at the eye. But he was counter attacked and hurt.
His men didn't form sentences, and just watched the kid with shocked faces.
"He is even using magic, no doubt! What an interesting kid! It would be a shame to let him die, no?", said Felyp as he started to run towards the battle while heating up his blade. Some minions noticed him and started flying towards him, but stood no chance against his now glowing hot blade and battle experience.
His men cleared the rest of the minions with him. Felyp was now behind the giant eye, but no matter how close he came, it didn't turn towards him even for a second. It was focused on this kid and nothing else. Then, Felyp felt disturbingly high amounts of energy gathering inside the eye, and the eye started to shine. The energy was building up too fast for him to stop it with his magic.
"DENNIS QUICK! PROTECT THE KID!!", he shouted as he prepared to slice the big eye in two. One of his man carrying a big shield ran in front of the unmoving kid and stabbed his shield into the ground just as a massive beam of light shot out of the eye.
*****
Something, no, someone started blocking the light coming from the eye and Corvin saw the silhouette of a big man with a big armor protecting him. He could hardly think and the only thing keeping him awake was adrenaline, so he just kept staring at the man.
Then, a loud roar came from the eye, as it shot a beam just as Dennis came between the boy and itself. Dennis' shield started to glow and melt, as the plants under them started to dry and catch fire. Thankfully, the shield could stop the light beam before a hole opened.
When Corvin could see again, he saw five people in armour and a dead giant eye, sliced in half with a burnt cut.
Then he finally passed out from pain and exhaustion.
*****
"The kid passed out? Olivia! Help this poor soul!", shouted Felyp.
"Yes!", answered a woman with light green hair reaching her shoulders and blue eyes. She was wearing lighter armour than the rest of the group.
Olivia ran towards Corvin and crouched next to him. Put her hand on his forehead and closed her eyes. Soon worm like things glowing the colour of her hair appeared on her hand and started to wiggle and enter Corvin's nose, ears and other orifices. The wiggling movements went towards the wounds on his arms and leg from under his skin and heal them.
"Ugh, everytime I see it... why does your magic look like that, seriously?"
"I-I don't know okay? Just be glad I can use it at all!", replied Olivia, her face getting a bit red because of embarrasment.
After healing his wounds, they cooked some meat for the kid because healing magic still used nutrients from the body to heal.
"But, was that really a colossus? Sure, it looks nothing like normal monsters, but it was kind of weak. It is nothing compared to the one last year. It's more like it was sent here just to attack this unlucky kid.", muttered Felyp.
"Well, anyways.", Felyp turned towards a man with brown hair and green eyes who was just three fingers shorter than him.
"Jack, go and bring the villagers back. You know where they are right? The village is safe, and I want to talk with this kid's parents."
"Yes, Sir!", said the man. He jumped on his horse and left the village.
