Chapter 29 - The Ross

Jenna Ross was born on the 14th of July, 1999.

And Jen, was born on the 5th of December, 2016.

Jenna was an only child, both her parents Joyce Ross and Haris Davidson, didn't want any more children- Jenna was IT, she was enough.

Growing up, Jenna always thought she was the luckiest girl alive- she had both of her parents around, her mom was a full-time mother, and even though her dad was quite busy at work sometimes, they always made up for it during weekend trips.

When Jenna was turning 12, her dad announced the big news that they were going to have their own company- Haris was born to be a businessman but he never had the starting fund to do it.

Although he was already in his 40s, Joyce told him never to give up his dream- this was how Haris opened his own little company, doing international trades.

Jenna knew that her mother came from a wealthy family, but for some reason, their relationship stopped when Jenna was just a toddler.

She did remember her grandpa, Grandpa Ross, he was a serious man, quite unhappy with Jenna's father all the time. But he loved Jenna as well- in his own way.

Jenna took her mother's family name because Grandpa Ross insisted, saying that Jenna would be the only grandchild he was ever going to have and that she needed to take over everything they owned.

But Joyce never felt like she was an only child- she grew up with her cousin Rosa, who lost her parents at a young age and was taken in by the Ross family.

Rosa was Joyce's cousin from her mother's side- Rosa Fox, Joyce was always jealous that Rosa had such a cool name.

"If I could choose, my name would be Rosa Cat. I don't like foxes, they freak me out a little bit." Rosa used to say this when people gave her compliments.

Jenna's mother Joyce, met her father Haris when they were just kids- Haris was two grades older than Joyce- they went to the same school.

Even though Grandpa Ross insisted on sending Joyce to a 'proper', 'high class' school, her mother- Grandma Anna, whom Jenna never had the chance to meet, wished that Joyce could go and have more fun in life, and not be constrained by her family's money or fame/

Grandpa Ross was mad when Joyce came home to introduce Haris- he was not going to arrange someone for her to meet but he wished to see someone who could afford a good life for Joyce.

The two of them were cut out of contact for a couple of years, but no one could change Joyce's mind, so Grandpa Ross caved with one condition- that Haris could never ask for any help from the Ross, and that they would be on their own.

If it weren't for Jenna, Grandpa Ross probably wouldn't have seen his own daughter very often.

But the happy moments were too short- Aunt Rosa was supposed to fill in the gap Joyce left and marry someone who could help the Ross family.

She wouldn't, and found herself someone who was even 'worse' than Haris in Grandpa Ross's opinion- he was lazy, rude, and clearly after Rosa's money.

Rosa went home to have a huge argument with Grandpa Rose when she found out that he had ordered people to threaten her boyfriend.

"But you are not even my real father!"

The moment Rosa shouted those words, their relationship was over.

Of course, why would you obsess over another child's life when she had nothing to do with you? When she was determined to let herself be harmed and let her life fail?

Grandpa Ross was never the same after that day.

He blamed Joyce and Haris for setting up such a bad example for Rosa- they were really cut off this time and rejected by the Ross family.

And for Rosa, she went with her disappointing boyfriend- the last time someone heard from her, she was on a camping trip.

But she never came back.

It was said that her entire friend group was attacked during the night- there was nothing the police could do other than issue a missing person's report.

Jenna has always missed Aunt Rosa- she was beautiful and fun-loving, plus, she always brought candy with her.

Jenna thought the pain of losing Aunt Rosa was the most she could ever bear, but in 2016, she lost both of her parents in a car accident.

The three of them were driving to a Christmas market near the lake but Haris's car went out of control and went right off the hill on the way: both Joyce and Jenna were in the backseat, and Haris was unconscious right on the spot.

Joyce was acting calm for Jenna, she called for help and comforted Jenna that everything would be okay.

But that was the last time Jenna had ever talked to her.

The autopsy showed that Joyce had several organ damage- she was bleeding internally, but no one could see.

Jenna was the only one who survived the crash, but she had many cuts on her body- and treating the scar would cost her too much money.

All she was left, was their little apartment, a small savings account, and her legs full of scars.

"I didn't want anyone to find me," Jenna said, changing her full name to Jennifer Davidson, and moved back to the city, G town, where her father used to live.

She had more than enough money to finish high school, but when she enrolled in business school, the high tuition was going to drain her account.

This was when she started doing part-time jobs- working at the cafe shops, washing dishes for restaurants, tutoring...

Jenna was the little princess, but Jen was her own family.

Only when the night gets dark and she is alone, could she think about her family and cry on her own.

"What would have happened if we didn't go that day?" She couldn't help wondering for thousands of times.

But the only company she had, was her plushies who never responded to her- until she met Sebastian.

Jen thought she was just earning enough money for herself, but the day she saw Sebastian, she saw her mother's shadow- he was kind and shy, but he had his own mind. He knew what he wanted but his family and the world made it too hard for him.

"I trust you," Jen said to Sebastian when they were trapped in the room, without much decency left. But she was not just speaking to him, she was speaking to herself.

She trusts her own judgment.

Her judgment when she first met Sebastian.

He is good.

And he would only be better.

All he needed was a little time.

And maybe some love.
